questions/ bex design, please help and educate

Hello all

so ive got some questions and was hoping i could find a couple helpful people to educate me a bit..

and i also want to take a crack at making my own box and re doing my trunk to make it look nicer..

before i start ill let you know my current system.

im running an alpine m500 mono amp, 12" type r sub, and a little over 2cu ft box.

first off with questions

1. does the direction the sub is affect sound or vibration? like if the sub is on its side or if it is vertical up and down..?

2. i have a hatch back car, and the trunk is open to the cab basically, does the port direction matter?

3. this project would require me to possibly locate my amp, but the power wires are not long enough for the new location.. how hard would it be to extend them, and is that ok to do?

ok onto the box talk & questions...

after searching around on some of my car forums i found this picture of a fellow tC owner and like it a lot.. except im running 1 12" sub

so it would have to be altered, but i like how the box looks like it is a part of the trunk.

4. where would be the best place the put the sub and port hole...

i was thinking to just have the right sub hole and then putting the port on the left side?

5. the port itself.. L shaped? or just a strait wall? how do i know how deep to make the port wall go in or how far the L should curve?

and lastly

here is where my amp is currently installed.. its kinda killin an inch worth of space to push the box against the seats..

so i was thinking about relocating to underneath the trunk floor and then fabing up some kinda window to see down into it.

in the picture below the carpet is kinda darker where the middle of the spare tire is.. i think the box might cover some of the amp..

my alternate options are to take out the spare tire.. or put it over on the right side.. theres a bunch of plastic underneath i could unbolt out.. the plastics existence is pretty much useless

hopefully after all this i will be ready to start designing the box itself..

it looks like the dimensions are going to be about 37"L x 9 or 10" wide, x 12 high

anyone tell me how many cu ft that is? and or how to get the cu ft?

id like it to be at or above 2cu ft to sound close to what i have now.
