Gain and Bass Boost questions!

hey everyone i just finished building my box for my ssa icon 12. i am running it off a us amps xt1600.2 amp at 4 ohms and had some questions. i am working on setting my gain and believe it is somewhat close but the sub is still not even remotely loud. i run the volume at about 20 max and the sub out setting on the deck is at +10 (the highest it will go) and the deck also has a 3 band eq. i tried turning up the low from -10 to 0 and it hardly increased the bass and just made the door speakers muddy. im starting to get kind of frustrated because everyone is telling me not to even touch the bass boost but that seems like the only thing that makes it sound good and loud. any suggestions would be awesome!

turn the stereo up? lol, also do you have a 4ch hooked to your door speakers?

Legal TL scores145.6 on the dash sealed up in the low 40hz area with the port out145.5 on the dash sealed up @30hz with the port inless then 1k clamped on a 3.5k!

Why would you EVER WANT flex?
huh?...flex is what can make the lows lower and more air being pushed correct?

turn volume up... and x2 on freshman. my kenwood barely had a half volt coming out of the preouts until volume like 30 out of 35. i always had it at 26 because my door speakers would distort but now since i dont even use the headunit amplifier anymore i can turn it up much more (safely)

i would but even 20 is getting to be almost to loud for the ears and is beginning to distort the door and other interior speakers. im going to check the gain with a dmm and will report back in a couple days but i believe its close and cant see it changing anything significantly. thanks for the replies guys!

  • 2 weeks later...

so i have been thinking that if i only have my volume to 20 would it be ok to turn the gain up past 2 volts because im not playing the head unit loud enough to reach the 2 volts? when i turn the volume to twenty and have the gain set at 6v (all the way down) i slowly turned the gain up higher and higher until it was all the way at .1v (the highest). it was finally starting to move some air and sound decent but still not what i would think it should be at. im not noticing any distortion or clipping of any kind when i do this...am i potentially hurting something? sorry for all the noob questions guys but i really appreciate the insight and help!

the amp i am using is a us amps xt1600.2..i wired the sub at 4 ohms and have it bridged so it should be roughly 1100 watts rms. if i use that chart that has all the different voltages for the different rms ratings would i go with the 1100 rms rating im assuming? because it says to use the rms rating to one of the channels.

its okay to use bass boost if you set it with your gain. oscope it though to make sure youre not clipping

Steve I don't know why but everytime I see your new paint I want a Dr. Pepper...... is this normal?

heres an analogy for you. running a high power stereo without a fuse is like having unprotected sex with that hot chick at the bar with the sketchy sexual history. Sure you may be fine and nothing happens but that one time something does happen you're fucked.

i dont want woofer broke like bass sound clip clip and voice coil overheat

so ive been messing around with the dmm and have come up with only about 20v tops while trying to adjust my gain...this is at volume 35 using a 50hz test tone and at this point it sounds like my interior speakers are about to blow. i have all the eqs on the head unit turned to 0. is there something im missing? i also tried turning the sub sonic filter and lpf all the way down but still can only reach 20v tops with about 6v being the average...looking at the smd gain sheet it says i should be reading 66.3v at 4 ohms? im at a loss guys.
