question about port location

ok right now i have 2 15 eclipse and i was thinking about building a different box i made a port thing in my back seat to let some air in when i dont have the seat down and i was wondering if i built a box so the port would go right though the hole in my seat how would it sound i was told by the guy who made my last box that its better the way it is now the port goes out the side of the box. how much of a difference will it make if any i have pics of the box i have now also the port i have in my seat. or is there any other better idea you guys can think of let me know thanks
