If you talk about an Active Speaker now, you usually mean a loudspeaker with it's own amplifier. It used to mean a loudspeaker with no frequency divider network and relied on Active processing. Frequency Dividing networks are now crossovers. Terms change to whatever is popular I suppose. Basslova, 10xVAS is the reccommended volume behind an 'IB' manifold.
