Sub WIring

Hello, I just had a question about wiring my subs. I know all the basic wiring series/parrallel, parrallel/parrallel. parrallel series etc... but I have 2 dual 1 ohms subs and was talking to a guy at the last competition I was at and he was talking about a way to wire 2 dual 1 ohm subs down to .5 instead of to .25 by adding another speaker wire. I didn't have time to write it down to try it later but I'd like to know if anyone knows what I am talking about and if anyone could post up a wiring diagram for this.

are you wiring each sub in its own channel or in one channel. If you have a mono amplifier then use this wiring ------> mono amp config

If you have a 2 channel amp then wire each sub like this in each channel -------> 2 channel amplifier config
