Need help with speakers

Hey i purchased a set of Kicker 07DS680 5x7 today for my rear deck and when i went to test them out they started popping and cracking at 1/4 volume, what could cause this? The first upgrade i did was put a avh-p3200bt pioneer HU in and today like i said i bought the two kickers at a local shop. I ran my own 12 ga speakers wires since i had no idea what was what on the old mach harness. The car is a 2003 ford mustang gt it had the mach 460 sound system in it but one of the owners had a system in it and striped all that stuff and i suppose he bypassed everything, from what i see is that is was a cheap setup and had terable grounds and had target brand 2-way speakers in it lol:]also appears he had a 4 chan amp for the 2-ways since they were all blown.
