Dub7Banger Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 (edited) Alright, so I got bored and decided to try and figure out box specs for myself for a Level 5 18 and this is what I came up with. Height - 11" Width - 37" Depth - 38" Which before displacements = 7.12 ft^3 After port, sub, and brace displacement i'm right at 5.5 cubes, which was my goal (recommended by ThorsHammer) My port specs are Height - 2" Width - 30.375" Length - 16.75" This, with my box build puts me at 35.08hz (used the Torres calc to do all of this.) I was wondering what you guys think? Does this enclosure sound like it would fit the sub well? Would I be happy with the 35 tuning? I'm going for a daily driver, and i'll be hooking it up to a Crescendo 3k @ 1.4 ohms EDIT: It'll be going in the trunk of a 1990 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight, with the sub facing up, and the port firing towards the cabin Edited September 5, 2010 by Dub7Banger Quote Warning, you are taking advice from a noob with 0 install experience at this point, any advice I give is strictly based on information gathered via the intrawebz and lots of forum surfing over a period of 2 months If you are considering buying a DC Level 5, do it. Don't think about it, just do it. It'll work. go to lowes get bricks wait in yard. throw said brick at vehicle. If thats me and that just happened to me Im going looking for him after that. 1. Goto lowes 2. Get some bricks 3. ??? 4. PROFIT!! Profit from everything. LOVE ideas like this. xD
hdorre Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 (edited) Impedence rise will bring you near 2 ohms. At that impendence you'll get around 2000 watts rms. I would do an XL on 2000wrms Edited September 5, 2010 by hdorre Quote On 5/8/2011 at 7:38 PM, Kranny said: On 5/8/2011 at 7:35 PM, 'Maxim' said: It hurts me inside when I read stuff like this and remember you're 15 LMFAO so true Mitsubishi 3000GT (Old Build) Headunit: Pioneer 80PRS Frontstage: (2) McLaren Audio MLT-2 Tweeters & (4) PRV Audio MR Series Neo 6.5" Mids Substage: 4 15" Hybrid Subs - Tantric Motors & Sundown Softies Amps: Banda 2.4D Amp (Tweets), American Bass VFL 350.4 (Mids), and (2) Ampere 3800s Electrical :Singer 260A Alt & JY Power Lithium 2005 Chevy Colorado Ext Cab Headunit: Pioneer 80PRS Frontstage: 4 PRV 700Ti Tweets & 6 10" Delta Mids on 3000wrms Substage: 6 Fi BTL 18s in a 4th Order Walkthrough on 3 Wolfram 4500s Electrical: Singer "390" and JY Power My Official Feedback Thread

I'll be maintaining a mostly stock electrical aside from Big 3 in 1/0, 1/0 between batts, and 1/0 from rear battery to amp. I'll be using a D6500 for the rear. hdorre Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 (edited) I'm guessing you got .7 ohm coils. Maybe you could get a dual 1.4 ohm recone and wire it to the amp at .7. It'll like that. Or you could get a T2500-1bdCp Edited September 5, 2010 by hdorre Quote On 5/8/2011 at 7:38 PM, Kranny said: On 5/8/2011 at 7:35 PM, 'Maxim' said: It hurts me inside when I read stuff like this and remember you're 15 LMFAO so true Mitsubishi 3000GT (Old Build) Headunit: Pioneer 80PRS Frontstage: (2) McLaren Audio MLT-2 Tweeters & (4) PRV Audio MR Series Neo 6.5" Mids Substage: 4 15" Hybrid Subs - Tantric Motors & Sundown Softies Amps: Banda 2.4D Amp (Tweets), American Bass VFL 350.4 (Mids), and (2) Ampere 3800s Electrical :Singer 260A Alt & JY Power Lithium 2005 Chevy Colorado Ext Cab Headunit: Pioneer 80PRS Frontstage: 4 PRV 700Ti Tweets & 6 10" Delta Mids on 3000wrms Substage: 6 Fi BTL 18s in a 4th Order Walkthrough on 3 Wolfram 4500s Electrical: Singer "390" and JY Power My Official Feedback Thread
EricR Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 I would go a little more on the port height, 2" high port is likely gonna have port noise. Quote i was thinking leave the 12 sitting in the box in the hole and duck tape from the bottom of the sub to the bottom of the baffle so the sub doesnt free air. would that work?

Because dual 1.4 is what I would like, but I couldn't pass the deal I got for the dual .7 I would go a little more on the port height, 2" high port is likely gonna have port noise. Any recommendations on a port for the sized enclosure I chose then? Because if I change the height, then the freq of the box changes, and to adjust I end up screwing up the volume. I'm trying to keep it dead on 5.5cubes Edited September 5, 2010 by Dub7Banger Quote Warning, you are taking advice from a noob with 0 install experience at this point, any advice I give is strictly based on information gathered via the intrawebz and lots of forum surfing over a period of 2 months If you are considering buying a DC Level 5, do it. hdorre Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 You need to contact DC. Thorshammer responds really fast to PMs. You could call them too (idk if they're open on weekends) Quote On 5/8/2011 at 7:38 PM, Kranny said: On 5/8/2011 at 7:35 PM, 'Maxim' said: It hurts me inside when I read stuff like this and remember you're 15 LMFAO so true Mitsubishi 3000GT (Old Build) Headunit: Pioneer 80PRS Frontstage: (2) McLaren Audio MLT-2 Tweeters & (4) PRV Audio MR Series Neo 6.5" Mids Substage: 4 15" Hybrid Subs - Tantric Motors & Sundown Softies Amps: Banda 2.4D Amp (Tweets), American Bass VFL 350.4 (Mids), and (2) Ampere 3800s Electrical :Singer 260A Alt & JY Power Lithium 2005 Chevy Colorado Ext Cab Headunit: Pioneer 80PRS Frontstage: 4 PRV 700Ti Tweets & 6 10" Delta Mids on 3000wrms Substage: 6 Fi BTL 18s in a 4th Order Walkthrough on 3 Wolfram 4500s Electrical: Singer "390" and JY Power My Official Feedback Thread

Thorshammer responds really fast to PMs. You could call them too (idk if they're open on weekends) Thor is the person i'm buying the sub from and he's the one that told me to shoot for 5.5 after displacement, and he said as far as freq he uses the term lab to tune, and adjusts as he finds necessary, and i'm not really that skilled, nor do I have access to a TL. I can probably make a completely different port, I was just trying to shoot for 35 because i'd get a little more of the more audible tones. Not going for SPL. Don't care how loud it gets as long as it sounds good. Any ideas?
