2001 Dodge Dakota HU help

So I installed a HU and doorspeakers in my friends 2001 Dodge Dakota.

I Installed the doorspeakers first, and checked to see if they worked on the factory HU, which they did.

So I went to the next step of installing the HU, which is a 4in touch screen POS from walmart.

Everything was hooked up correctly, but I couldnt get sound to come out of the HU, until last night, when I looked up a Dakota Forum and found my solution.

But now today, he turns his car on, and he notices that

"When I turn on my stereo and all, I mean ALL dash controls go out, and my odometer goes off with wording instead of mileage, and it all works when the deck is off."

I have picked my brain apart and can't figure out why today it decided to not work, when last night NONE of these symptoms showed up.
