Moley
I am thinking about getting a kinetic in the trunk. Can I just parallel it with my starter battery without an isolator? I heard that 2 batteries have to be relatively the same if there is no isolator as one battery will drain the other.
AMI CUSTOMS
Yup you can do that, they have to be ideally the same type, like AGM style for example is the most common in car audio. Same brand and very close in age of battery. Just parallel it up to the front batt and that will work, put a fuse at each end of power between the two batteries and depending on your vehicle it may be best to run a full length of neg as well between the two. The stock battery is 1 year old and not very big. You said " same brand and very close " A kinetic won't be the same brand as my starter battery. Does that mean I have to replace that battery? ingramcaraudio
Yeah if it's not the same type of battery you normally want to use an isolator and i always run a positive fused lead front to back then ground to the frame in the back but you can run it from the front or do both. Just make sure you charge up your second battery before you install it. AMI CUSTOMS
Yes I would replace it that way you don't have to run an isolator you will have a voltage drop across the isolator they have there purposes but car audio isn't one of them. JMO.... I don't like the sound of using an isolator either. I think I will replace my underhood batt with a kinetic and see how that goes. If not good enough I will add another of the same kind in the trunk. Thanks for the advice.

Moley
Do u have a ho alternator? If not get that first, that way ur fix the problem and not put a bandade on it They don't make them yet for my car ( 2010 genesis coupe 2.0T ) Can't be rebuilt either as there are no parts. The stock alt is 110 amps which is pretty good for stock but I have a hifonics brz2100.1d and it pulls 175 amps at full tilt @ 14 volts. Right now I have done the big 3 and that's it. I have to keep the gain down somewhat and can't run it like I want to. Until they make an alt for my car I want to go with a second battery so I don't get as much voltage drop. I know it won't cure the problem but I am hoping it will help the dimming at least a bit. I look like a strobe light going down the street at night I found out from the kinetik website that I can hook it up without an isolator as it is an agm style battery. Don't know why that matters but according to kinetik it just acts as a supplementary current supply and it's fine to add it to my starting battery which is what I decided to do now instead of repalacing my existing battery. I can get an hc800 ( 200 farad equivelant ) and 36 ah for 180 + tax. I think I will get it and hook it up and hope for the best. AMI CUSTOMS
It will pull that non agm style battery down or vise versa because that are different. They say that on the kinetik site cuz they want to sell batteries and the average consumer doesn't know any better. Replace your starting battery first with the biggest agm style you can fit under there. ingramcaraudio
Please don't hook it up without an isolator or even at all because replacing your front battery is something you would do later anyway so just do it now.
