anubis
The current enclosure I am running is a hair over 6 cubes with port thru rear deck and with small port area (10.5in2/cube). In order for me to get bigger port area I would need to shrink the box of course but how much port area can I get away with? minimum and maximum in reality? I know the reccommended is 12-16in2/cube but will going any larger bring down the effiecency of the woofer? Net with large port area would be in the 5 cube range (low). Any suggestions would be appreciated. fi car audio
Becomes an issue very quick... more port equals longer length for the same tuning and volume... more port volume reduces available box volume and increases tuning... so you make it longer to compensate which decreases volume and increases tuning... wait???!?!?! Not the right direction. What you might want to do is put heavy radiuses on the inner and outer edges of the ports to aid in flow and reduce noise and compression. Takes up no space and does help. Shrinking box down further is bad... looses efficiency and output near tuning (if tuned low) which is counter productive as well. Heck Steve has like 120sq for all 4 18s in his system... WAY too small, but loads and works proper. With 60sqin on yours and a healthy radius on the openings, it should help. Thanks, Scott
