I'm designing and building a wedged box for a T1 12" sub. The dimensions are 39"W x 16.5"H x 18"D1 x 9"D2. The gross for that according to RF is 3.91cu'. My Port dimensions are 2"H x 30"w x 14.75" long. That along with the sub displacement subtracted from the box gross should leave me with a gross of 3.30cu' tuned to 40Hz as recommended by RF? I'm bumping my head against the wall as the guy needing this is limited on space. I'm looking to give him something with a bit more bump. We were going to place two JL W3's in a sealed box prior to this but I think he might be happier with a RF T1 in a ported box? Am I wrong?

If we can make the ported box fit more along these measurements it'd be great.

Is it possible? Am I completed wrong on all my calculations? Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

*Using Torres' box tuning calculator*

I'm trying to stay with the "high output" slot loaded enclosure recommendation from RF and that's 2.25(net)/ 3.12cu' (gross). Seems like depending which online calculator I use I come up with different results. Right now I sit with this:

Wedged Box

16"H x 33"W x 17.75" D1 x 9" D2 = 3.14 cu ' gross

Sub Displacement = 0.099

Port = 2"H x 30"W x 17.5" long = 0.61 cu' (same port area recommended by RF)

Which all these calculations per RF, I come up with a box tuned to 45.61Hz WTF!!!! Either 40Hz recommended by RF or tuned down to 35hz would be great. Our max workable measurements are 39"W x 16"H x 9"D2 x 18"D1....

did you put in anything for the # of common port walls? and 2 by 30 is WAY too thin of a port dude, thats a ratio of 15:1. try to stick with something like 8:1. and i also hope you are looking at the Port Area and Port Area Range numbers on the bottom right part of the calculator. if you have to ask what are they for then im just going to facepalm super hard.

sounds like not enough port area. i assume you havent even read the instructions for the program, or looked at the two numbers i told you to look at.

I'm assuming you're not in a great mood today. Bear with me here as this is my very FIRST time using the program. I'm toying with the port area settings now to get my port area in the range thats indicated.

lol sorry, im a tad sick and its early in the morning. i can come off as an asshole sometimes. but yeah if you tinker with the port numbers, try to get a number that is between the port area range. for example (random numbers), if the port area range states something like 40-60sqin, try to get a port area that is between those two numbers. of course having a bigger port will take up more internal space, leading to a smaller box. but you can easily counter that by making the dimensions of the box bigger.

Ok,

3"H x 15"W x 22.25" long = a port area of 45.00 in²

My range is 41 - 54 in²

My tuning freq is 34.99 Hz

Is this good?

Box dimensions are 16H x 33W x 17.75D1 x 9 D2 = 3.14 cu '

Sub Displacement is 0.099 cu'

Port Displacement is 0.579cu'

Sorry for the frustration. This is why i'm here asking for help. I had no idea about the port ratio recommendation you've mentioned above. Thanks for that.

No biggy. Appreciate it. I've never had more issues than now with this wedged box. I'm trying to keep the port coming from the bottom and the sub sitting over that. It's much easier for me to do it that way otherwise I'll have to somehow calculate the port area with a wedged box if I went off one of the front sides.

looks good man. yeah almost every person that uses this program always forgets that theres those 2 sets of numbers and it gets quite bothersome sometimes haha.
