  1. Ok, I had planned to build a little further back along the door panel because I have custom mirrors that would not be view obstructed, and maybe about 3 inches out away from the door frame, as I would have not used that factory plastic sail that is there. I guess I will just put them in the factory dash locations, (only have to trim about 1/8" to fit them in there under the dashtop), and already have hifonics tweeters in the sail panels, so I can put the new daytons there. Thanks again!
  2. 2003 PT Cruiser. Sorry, no pics of the sail panel location. I read about the extended high end on the TG9s and that they can sometime be run without a tweeter, so I thought that meant that off axis response would be ok. My problem is when you talked about them not fitting, I did not know that a small midrange speaker running from 350hz and up would require any airspace at all, so I had accounted for the depth and surface area of the sail panel location and the TG9, added an inch to both measurements and thought I would be good to go. It would work fine if I could run them with no airspace, just mounted into the hole/cutout in the MDF. Oh well, back to the drawing board, I guess. **Megalo, I have read many of your posts and need for you to know that this is not a competition car, so I am willing to compromise SQ, I am replacing a set of really bright on the high frequency Hifonics Crunch 2-ways with this new set up and also replacing my current center channel. My goal was to get better midbass, and that led to going 3-way up front with Kicker SSMB6 midbasses in the doors and 4 12" subs in the hatch, and decided to go better mids/tweets as well. I mainly need the front to be able to keep up with 4 12" subs, and have a 115x4 rms Hifonics amp to run my front stage and rear fill. I know this maybe an SQ related space on SMD, and pretty much feel that you are an expert on setting these up for the best SQ, just wanted you to know what my actual goal was with these. I hate to keep going back to the Escalade pic, but that pillar pod can not have that much airspace in it for that RF 5 1/4, can it? My guess is that the doors do all the imaging and the pillar pod is just helping to raise the staging???
  3. OHHHHH the sub! right right right. ok 4 way! I did not realize that such a small speaker needs some airspace, too. Ok now I'm gonna have to hit my friend up for some fiberglassing. I can at least build the frame and base out of wood per your instructions and pics from various installs to guide me, then he can supervise the actual glassing, or maybe do it for me! Again, I have to say that I this site has inspired me to start to try new things. It's great, but I will have a lot of questions as I go along. I told Steve in a post here that it's a good thing I just finished my box for 4 12"s right when I discovered this site, cause I might have had to order another 4 subs and ditch the back seats for a wall . Thanks again, Cary.
  4. Thanks to everyone and sorry for the confusion , think I'll just sand em down and Fleckstone!
  5. Ok, progress here for me! So I guess a better question is can I use that resin to coat MDF for a nice smooth glasslike finish, and then primer and paint it? I guess no? Or is there something better to coat MDF with so I can paint it shiny gloss white? Also, could I just have some tan bedliner material sprayed onto the MDF pod to finish it, and be done with it, kinda like the wall in the Civic and the Escalade?? I am just wanting to finish coat the MDF pod, not shape it with cloth or fiberglass.
  6. For clarification, I'm not talking about the fiberglass mat sheets that Steve resins to the box sides and floor, I'm talking about the stuff in the pic above that he is drying that is sealing the connection between the side of the box and the floor, the brown liquid. That is just resin with no fiberglass in it right? It's the same stuff you guys paint onto the cloth?? If all else fails I will post a pic of the MDF pods when I get them built then ask you guys how to "coat" them.
  7. I've got the TG9 in hand, so measuring is not a problem, I guess I got the 3" as the cutout diameter, not overall. There is enough room in my sail panels for the TG9 and a tweeter, I will get rid of the stock plastic sail panel, and will have an extra 1.5" to 2" in depth and surface area in that location. The Dayton is the 3/4" soft dome. I just need to figure out how much to angle them and if I can do it with all MDF vs having to fiberglass it, hence my noob post in the fiberglassing section. For some reason I am under the impression, that stacking 3/4" MDF 2 layers, coating it, then painting it, would be easier than fiberglassing, and would be very strong, too. Guess I've got a lot of research to do. I may end up building the pods for fiberglassing, then let a friend of mine with experience glass them for me. Thanks for all your advice, though. 3way, kicker SSMB6 midbass in doors, TG9 and tweeter in custom sail panels, hopefully.
  8. I was hoping to not use cloth or fiberglass mat, because the pod will be mostly two pieces of stacked MDF, just wanted to fill in some areas with filler, then smooth coat it with resin, then primer/paint. Am I way off??
  9. Question for the experts here. I am getting started on my first set of custom sail panels for my front doors, and want to know about resin to coat them with. I am talking about the stuff that Steve pours into his boxes when he sets them on an angle to seal the sides together. It looks like a brown liquid resin. Question is, If I build my pods out of MDF, add some filler to them, is there a way I can pour this resin over them, let it dry, trim/sand the edges, and end up with a nice smooth surface for painting a gloss color???
  10. What is the difference between aiming mids/tweets in pods straight across at eachother vs aiming them at the center of the car or directly at the listeners? It appears in Steve's Tahoe and the Escalade with the 8 18"s that the pods are aimed at eachother, but maybe because there are a lot of door speakers, too? I am getting started on fabbing some custom sail panels for my front doors for a Vifa TG9 3" mid and a Dayton tweeter, and have read that the off axis response is very good, so I am wondering if I should aim them toward the center of the car or straight across at eachother?? And what happens if the mid is aimed straight across and the tweeter is aimed at the listener. (so not on the same plane as eachother), would that be a mistake?
  11. D3 also has "vehicle dynamics" and can display speed, direction, etc. Kinda cool!
  12. Funny thing is - if I remember right, they were both married, so it was just another day at work for them. Lots of car clubs meet there and have shows, too, so they have fun giving out the awards, and posing for pics. It was well over 100 degrees that day, too.
  13. Thanks, I'll head over and correct that. PT Cruisers are not taken seriously by anyone, that's what makes them so fun to customize, the turbocharged ones get all the performance attention, so us non-turbo guys head towards the electrical mods .
  14. So I have been here a very short time, I actually discovered this site when looking for ported designs for a box. I have been working on re-doing the setup in my PT Cruiser. Nothing that would impress people here. Under construction with 3ways up front, Kicker, Vifa, Hifonics. Kicker mids for rear fill. 4 regular Hifonics 12" subs sealed box, Crunch 115x4 and a 550x1, soundstream EQ. Jensen DVD screen, still unsure if I will keep it in there or put my Alpine 9856 back in. I like the Ipod controler on the Jensen touchscreen, though. No competition or SPL stuff here, just a nice clean and loud daily driver. Well today I decided to see what the new subs could do after taking it easy on them for a few weeks. They get decently loud for the low amount of power they are getting compared to what you guys run. Blasting it really works the rear hatch, but the rest of the car seemed quite solid thanks to a lot of edead on the floors and doors. I know there are a few Hifonics people here, and the subs have made me again a huge Hifonics fan. Anyway, for the past 15 years doing this stuff, I pretty much got away from volume and just wanted an elaborate SQL type system, but a few weeks surfing here has made me a bass addict again! I don't see myself going any bigger than this though, but who knows, there is a lot of room back there without the rear sets in it! Just wanted to say thanks to everyone here for re-energizing me. Just watching all the members vids here is so much fun. I learn so much just seeing all the install pics, too. If i can get some fiberglassing experience, I might try some pods for my mids and tweeters in the sail panels up front, and a double din in the dash, there is room, actually, but the faceplate needs some modding! And, I'm not posting up any pics, because I'm to embarrased after what I've seen here so far. If you must see, here is my cardomain page, no poking fun at me though! **Edit: my last vehicle was a Jeep with a wall 2 15" kickers slot ported and 4 8"s, just so y'all don't boot me outta here! http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2270404
  15. Awesome, found it, keek da sneak, town business. Thanks!
  16. Ok, I found this topic earlier today for the first time, (new here), and have been downloading and buying songs all over the place! I haven't been able to find out what this one is though. It's on Steves cardomain page, the video tour of the tahoe, playing at the very beginning of the vid? What song and artist is this song? http://www.cardomain.com/ride/523384 (sorry can't link directly to the vid, but it's the first one, and there are only two at the bottom of page 1)
  17. What is the first song in the earfxxxed vid of Steves Tahoe??? EDIT: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...p?showtopic=753 Sorry, I'm still new here and finding stuff everyday. Moderators can delete this post.
