  1. I should have one showing up in the mail today. It's something to use in place of an RTA for now, and it'll come in handy for quick checks. Down the road, plan is to replace the family laptop and dedicate that one to garage duty, paired with a calibrated USB mic.

I'll let ya'll know how it is, but Dayton Audio took the time to make a calibration file for the mic that is specific to each one (you get the files feeding in the serial # to Dayton's site) and Studio Six Digital's app and RTA app (made by the same person I think) both accept that calibration file.

  2. That would be a nice feature to block certain words, but blocking out "vs" doesn't take away saying "or". I suppose there's not a way to make sure that those types of posts dont happen. I do agree with reporting the posts instead of responding. That would help them realize that it's not the way things are done and hopefully see that no one can tell them which two good brands are better, because it's all opinion.

But no such thing as a perfect world anywhere I suppose, especially not the internet. Thanks for the feedback. I was just brainstorming possible solutions last night before bed and figured I would share my thoughts.

Yeah, on another board I mod at, we have a filter set up to require certain types of posts be approved/verified by a mod before they show up. Usually, we use this to lock up a post in limbo if it's the users first 5 posts and they post a url link. It's an anti-spam feature, and it helps, though it'll occasionally catch someone legitimately trying to interact with the forum. Fortunately, we mods are fairly active and rectify it quickly.

On an unrelated note, what finally killed 99.9% of our spam problems was ip banning EVERY ip address from China. Drastic, but we were getting 150+ spam posts a day, and it was all coming from China.

  3. Here's a thought: If every time some dipshit came in and posted a vs. thread, everyone would NOT RESPOND TO IT and instead report it, that would take away a lot of the incentive to do it, cause they aren't getting what they want. Some people are going to pull anything they can get away with, and I noticed that by the time a mod locks down a thread, half the time the person has already managed to solicit a half dozen or so opinions. Not directed at the mods, just irks my nerves cause again, it's people not paying attention to the rules.

I wouldn't worry about being called a rentamod. People tend to get butthurt when they get called out and can't think of anything legitimate to respond with.

On a related note, I wonder if the forum has the ability to suspend all threads/posts with certain words in it, like vs. That would surely shut down a lot of the nonsense.

  4. By the way, if you are still wondering how one race is still the majority of oppression, you are being selective in your reading. The information is there, here it is so you can click on it:

LOL. You're not a Marxist but you're linking the Huffington post?

    I rest my case.

Does this board have an "ignore list" feature?

It does. But I think we should NOT ignore this guy, rather point out the flaws in every point he tries to make on this topic.

That's like beating up a retarded kid.

  5. I hope the town will understand this.

You have more faith in people than I do.
    not faith, hope.

Point taken. I hope that the city will regain it's senses, stop this nonsense, and respect the court's decision whatever it may be. Having seen the things I have in war, my faith in humanity as a whole has been fairly shaken. It's just hard to have faith when you see how evil people act towards each other because of their differences, case in point Ferguson.

  6. Just thought I'd throw this out there:

I come from a multiracial family, in more ways than one. My brother and I are both adopted from separate families. We grew up like any brothers do, busting each other's balls and giving our parents Hell, but I love the little shit like he's my blood. I was 5 when he came home for the first time, been there for most of his life, he had his first beer with me and my friends that took him in like THEIR little brother. I'm caucasian, German/Irish/Cherokee, but fairly dark skinned and have been mistaken for being hispanic/middleeastern/all kinds of shit if I spend a bit of time out in the sun due to how dark I get. My younger brother is hispanic. Both my parents are VERY light skinned. You should see the surprise on people's faces when my parents claim us.

My brother grew up in a good neighborhood, largely stayed out of trouble, never had any dealings with officers mistreating him or hassling him because of his race. You can rest assured if anything like that had happened, my father and I would've circled the wagons and gone to war, that's just how my family is. Race is not, and never was an issue in my family. Maybe we're more open minded than most, maybe it's how my father raised us.

When you see me comment on race, understand where I'm coming from. I, by definition, can't be a racist. To discriminate against someone because of their race would earn me a swift kick in the ass from my father, and probably my younger brother as well, but mostly I'd just be ashamed of myself. It's not who I am. Quite to the contrary, I expect everyone to work for what they have, and take responsibility for their actions. It is because I'M NOT a racist, that I do not give any race or class of people any slack when they act like the people in Ferguson do. Slavery, discrimination, race, all that shit is a crutch to excuse their actions. If I allow someone that excuse, I'm doing it because of their race, and THAT is racism in my eyes.

Everyone just keep in mind that racism works both ways. If someone cut me a break because I was white, even if I profitted from it, I'd still be insulted. I want to stand toe to toe with everone else and suceed because I'm better/harder working/smarter, not because I'm white. Likewise, I want people of every race to suceed because of who they are, not because of what color they are.

  7. I kind of agree about the Facebook pics if this didn't occur they would be irrelevant except now that it has happened it can be used to say look this is how this kids is and we go yeah he robbed that store looks like a thug in these pics so it's all true he was not a good person . In reality though how many of you have pics of yourselves holding guns or flipping off the camera or holding stacks of cash I know I do and I'm no criminal by any stretch of the imagination. Point is if this was just a random guy with these pics on Facebook you wouldn't think anything of it but now that you know what has occured you would see these pics differently just because of that. I still can't wrap my mind around why this police department has no dash cams in any of the cruisers it makes no sense in this day and age if they had them this case would have closed day one. Doesn't mean these people wouldn't still act a fool though if you give idiots any reason to act up they take it.

Before you guys comment in no way am I defending this kid and I'm not defending the officer either I'm waiting to see how it all plays out so far though the witness story's have all just been proved to be false.

    A. Nowhere on my Facebook page you will you find any mention of me saying "F Cops" or "Let's kill some cops". Several of my close friends and family members are LEO's. If someone puts that shit out there, and something like this happens, you can bet your ass I'm gonna put 2 and 2 together. If someone is heard to threaten a person's life, and that person ends up dead, their statement is admissable in court of law. Why are these pics and social media statements any different? They demonstrate an attitude towards LEO's that some would call provocative.

    B. Again, the pics and statements by themselves aren't evidence, but taken against an officer's statement that this kid attacked him, they're now circumstantial evidence. The media has assasinated the officer's character and reputation claiming he's a racist and he killed an innocent kid. The "innocent" kid robbed a store, assaulted the store owner, and has made multiple public statements that he would like to and advocates assault/killing cops.

Am I missing something here? Sounds like the kid's true colors are pretty apparent to anyone that just doesn't want to see it. I can understand not jumping to conclusions, but there's the other extreme where you just stick your head in the sand and ignore all the evidence in front of you.

  8. no youre not. the only one

Just curious. It suddenly occurred to me this guy only has X posts, and they looked like they were all right here.

im not sure if im shocked that cnn didnt try to feed into the animosity or if im shocked they are corroborating the officers story. this has too be tough for them

I'm shocked too every article I've read inn CNN about has been quick to point out that a white cop shot a black teen. Finnaly a story not trying to do any race baiting it's amazing. I really would like to know what would have happened if it was a black officer that shot the kid would have even been national news? For some reason I doubt it.

Well, I can tell you in NOLA, white kids get shot/the crap beat out of them by black officers all the time, several times during the commencement of Mardi Gras. In case you haven't watched the news, whitey isn't exactly rioting and burning down the city.

I think at this point that's what pisses me off about this whole situation. I have faith the truth will come out and justice will be done, but this rioting and back and forth between the police is just nonsense. There's no excuse or justification for it, but people keep on talking about race and how this department full of white cops are just out to keep the black community under their thumb.

I'd love to interview the few black officers and see what their take on the situation is. If the department really is overrun with racial intolerance, you'd think they'd be the first to know about it. Kinda makes you think huh?

  9. One of the things i should also mention.

When people complain about these pictures and robbery video are an attempt to assassinate Brown's character, is absolutely ludicrous.

Only you, your actions and your lifestyle can assassinate your own character.

Also I was only defending the facebook pictures, because as I stated later they aren't pics I dont see often. Him stealing from the store is completely different. Even with that you don't know the whole story with the store owner but thats unrelated legally anyways. I really don't feel like arguing anything further, just trying to make a few points before you jump to a conclusion. Just keeping you open minded

Am I the only one that realized LM9 just joined today, this morning, and ALL he's posted in is this thread defending Brown? I smell troll.

  10. ^^^^^That's how the media does it. None of Brown's social media stuff is conclusive, but he sure doesn't think of himself as an alter boy does he?

Oddly enough, everyone I bring this up with gets all defensive and says the kid didn't deserve to get shot. It's like the more their story falls apart, that he was a good kid shot by some racist white cop, they still don't want to admit he MIGHT have done something to escalate this altercation.

  11. Hate to say it, but I had to go into Army mode and give my wife a briefing last night. Scared the Hell out of her, but considering what I used to do for a living, I have some experience with people trying to kill me, and how to deal with that. Hopefully I'm just being overly worried, but I can see this crap spinning up in other cities.

It's a shitty time guys, everybody watch your asses and be safe. If you can arm yourself, I'd recommend it. If not (for any reason, where I work I can't even have a firearm in my vehicle in the parking lot) remember that as long as you're in a vehicle you're in control of a +3,000 lb weapon, never get out of the vehicle for any reason, and speed is safety. Combat Convoy Training 101.

i dont think that it will happen. this is a matter between dumb idiots who were looking for trouble and out of control police officers who were violating the rights of the american people. There were so many wrongs on both sides.. sad day really.. looking forward to see how i am going to be seen here at work today based on my "educated" views

    :ninja:

Sensai, I think and hope you're right, but I didn't get my ass home from Iraq in one piece giving people the benefit of doubt and assuming they weren't malicious shitheads out to get me. Some may call that paranoia, but I'd never forgive myself if something happened to my wife and I didn't do everything I could to teach her to protect herself, especially because our daughter is with her 95% of the time.

I'm still hoping a little reason and rational thought overtakes all this jackassery, and that people on BOTH sides of that issue can see what really happened and admit there may have been some wrong-doing on both sides. You can't pin this whole thing on the officer, nor on the kid he shot. I honestly believe both could have handled this differently, and two lives (one is dead, one will never be welcome in that community again) wouldn't be completely ruined as a result.

  13. So, half the population is screaming police overreacted and incited this riotous behavior with heavy handed tactics, and here are store owners saying cops never responded.

Anyone else feel like we're all being played.
