  1. Here's the verdict. Having the Head Unit with Sublevel +15 was causing me to set my sub amp incorrectly. I set everything back to stock HU, all amps etc... Found out that the HU does not distort for either track 1 - 2 at max volume 35. So I reset the the gains and redid the crossovers, needless to say its spot on. Amazing products when used correctly, I had just read bad information regarding setting up the HU before I used the DD-1 and CC-1. The sub amp has a remote gain control so I just set that in the middle so I can tweak it depending on the song ( I listen to everything classical to rap, so if changes often ). Did find out that setting the HU with bass boost 1 ( setting 0-3 ) makes the subs sound warmer per say. Made sure that the gain was not distorting when I tested with bass boost setting and DD-1. Do you all think I should use the HU bass boost or adjust the sub amp Punch eq? basically do the same thing. Thank you all for your suggestions and help you provided.
  2. @ Ohio45113 Thanks again for you input maybe I should try some of your sweet ass Velcro tweeter mounts. Does Bruce Wayne sponsor your bat mobile by chance? How much does that spoiler cost in Gotham city??
  3. The more and more I think about it maybe the HU sub level of +15 might be my issue. Cause if i start my settings with the HU out of wack then all tuning from there on out will be off. I am going to try a couple suggestions from this thread this evening and will report back. Thanks again for all your comments.
  4. This could be a thing.. maybe.... I was on the fence about a common chamber design. The thing is air tight for sure and running off a mono block sub amp. but I just might split the chambers, or just add a circle port. Thanks for the idea!
  5. Kinda what i was sayin. You have a simple setup and the dd1 doesn't seem like its being that simple for you. Okay... well as for myself, before finding out about DD-1 and his other products I was most likely running distortion for days and have just recently gotten back into the audio world. So yes I do have a simple system and yes I might am starting from the beginning but it doesn't hurt to ask for help.. . . That's how you learn. The product IS simple and thats what I like about it, so thanks for the jab... I hope you enjoy your 10k watt system with golden sub woofers encrusted with diamonds.
  6. Ohio... I know achieving perfection is not possible due to all the variables, I'm just trying to set my system up the best I can. I am by no means dealing with high end, high dollar components etc so I don't see how using a tool designed to prevent distortion could damage my small system, and yes you can set the gains a number of different ways DMM, ear, oscilloscope etc.. without using a DD-1. I just like the product and its ease of use hence why I came to SMD Forum to speak with people that have used this product and know a bit more than I do.
  7. Thank you for this suggestion but I do not have the DMM...... but i just ordered one!. Realized I should have one in my tool box. I can adjust by ear but I really want to keep everything distortion free, hence why I'm using the DD-1.
  8. Thank you for this suggestion. SO the SUB LEVEL on the head unit (+15 at the moment) decrease it till i see the distortion light disappear on the DD-1 at the undistorted level i found with track 2. Then slowly up the gains on the sub amp till red light shows again. Correct? I will give this a shot this evening thank you for your help. Like I said the DD-1 & CC-1 are awesome and I'm just trying to tweak my system to be stable and undistorted. Just a quick question: any suggestion on settings for Crossover Frequencys, like I currently have all 6.5s at 80hz and the subs at 80hz. Sounds great but door speakers I think are bassing (is that even a thing lol) to much... maybe raise both sub and door speakers to 100hz? Thanks again.
  9. I have set the Headunit with the 0db for both 1k and 40hz tracks in the beginning to find the decks distortion levels through the amp. I then set the gains to the -5db tracks for both the highs 1k and lows 40hz. So are you saying set the high amps gains to the 0db 1k track? and then the -10db track for the sub amps gain? I think that might make the highs scream my face off.
  10. See I have also tried the "middle" thats track 5 = -10db, when using that gain setting it seems like I need to turn the headunit up higher to get more output from the subs but by then the Highs with the -5db are way to loud..... SO i am confused needless to say. Now if I do crank the gain up (say half full settings) on the Sub amp it will bang like crazy but it just shows distortion on the DD-1. Thanks for you input thus far.
  11. Found the DD-1 Manual Online: Track 3 = 40hz -5db Track 4 = 1k -5db Those are the tracks I set my gains on the amps.
  12. I have been using the DD-1 and CC-1 and man are they amazing products... freaking awesome. But I must be doing something wrong as once I set all the gains / frequency correctly I still seem to be missing Bass from my subs. My setup is currently in a 2011 ford fiesta. Equipment: Head Unit- Kenwood KDC-BT958HD Amps: Rockford Fosgate r500X1D = Subs: 2 Rockford Fosgate R2D2-10 Prime R2 DVC 2 Ohm. (Sealed box with .78 Cubic Ft for each sub *roughly) Rockford Fosgate R400-4D = Front: Kenwood Kfc-P709Ps 6.5-Inch Components Rear: Kenwood KFCX173 Excelon 6.5-Inch 2-Way So I know my equipment is great and man it does sound really nice, just lacking the "hit from the subs" Current Settings: Setting of the Gains / Crossover were followed as directed by included instructions for DD-1 and CC-1 HeadUnit Distortion was detected through the amps. Track 1 = 29 Volume *before distortion, Track 2= 35 Volume (this is the max volume for this deck * no distortion) Set the gains for both amps at volume 32 as the instructions said take the medium or avg of both numbers. All settings were completed with HeadUnit at all stock settings, eq, etc... Headunit no bass boost or loudness settings enabled. Subwoofer Level is set to +15 as I heard that is how to get the full 2.2volts for preamp out?? could be wrong. I Set the Gains with the settings for Best Sound Quality supplied with the CD. I believe track 3 / 4 ( i dont have the cd in front of me atm) Cross Overs for 6.5's set at 80hz Subs are set and 80hz as well On the Sub amp the gain barely made it up a turn before seeing the Red light on the DD-1, I left the Punch EQ off This is were I seem to have a problem. The R400 is just fine and all settings sound great, but the R500 since the Gain is so load the subs are lacking now. The 6.5s seem to be doing all the work. I know the subs are working as certain songs do bring the subs into play but just not fully there.... I believe this has to do with the gain on this amp. I'm just trying to stay out of the distortion zone and have my system done correctly. I just wanted to see if any of you had any ideas as what I could or should try or do. **** I had all the same subs and speakers on a MBQuarts 1100.5 5 Channel amp, and had the same issue with the gain on the subs. So that is why I bought both of the Rockfords amp to see if it was an issue with my MBquart. Well still having similar issues. (all DD-1 / CC-1 settings for the MBQuart amp were all the same I listed for the Rockfords.)**** I can increase the gain on that amp but it will be distorting as seen by the DD-1 but that seems to be the only way to increase the subs at the moment. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, -Nc
