  1. I'm thinking of upgrading from my Crown Drivecore XLS 1002 amp that I currently have driving my 12in subwoofer with the Rockville RPA16. I'm looking for more power at a lower cost as I'm going to be adding an additional subwoofer in my setup. Well sorta let me explain my situations and scenarios down below.

I currently run a single 12in Elemental Design 13kv.2 sub that I built in a custom 1:1 transmission line or (T-Line) enclosure. I have a second sub that is still brand new in the box never used. And now that I've got the itch to build another T-Line enclosure I'm gonna wanna have the power to run both subs off a single rack amp instead of having multiple amps. The crown xls 1002 has been great but I feel it won't give me enough power to run a pair of these 12s in my theater the way that I want it to. So that one reason why I'm looking into a new amp.

Now the reason why I can't set up to a bigger crown amp like the Crown XLS 2502 is cost. I simply just can't afford to drop $800+ at this time. If I could I would and this post would be a muted point. So that leaves me going with a different more budget friendly brand for my next amp.

So here is why I'm asking about the Rockville RPA16. For the power amount it will give me more than enough power to run the pair of 12 inch subs with headroom to spare. The other reason why I'm considering this amp as well is that if I wanted to not run the dual 12 subs route, this amp will give me the flexibility to run a quad 18 setup.

See I also have 4, yes 4 18in CT Sounds Tropo 18s that are just sitting in my garage from a previous car build I had in my suburban. These are 650w rms/1300w peak. The though has come across my mind quite a few times to build these 18s into two pairs of dual folded horns or dual T-Line enclosure. One of the reasons for these enclosures are maximum low end output with control with lower power. If I go this route I don't have plans on running 650rms per woofer, more 350-400rms per.

So those are my options, I'm just trying to find the right amp at the right cost that can give me the low end bass that I want. I've been searching for new and used amps as well. I'm just thinking out loud right now and I'm looking for feedback and thoughts especially on this amplifier.

  2. Bumping up this oldie but goodie here. So for the past 2 years or so I've been using this same T-Line box with this same now 14 year old Subwoofer from the now defunked company in my home theater build. I'm getting ready to build a second one as I have a still never used eD 13kv.4 subwoofer that I'm gonna use to have a dual 12 subwoofer setup in my theater room. If anyone is interested in seeing said theater room I have linked it over from my Reddit page here:

  3. This is a question related to wheels and tires. These will be on a 2007 Chevy Suburban LT. I currently have a set of 26×9.5 rims with 305/30/26 Lionhart tires on them. I've just had horrible luck with these tires. I've had at least 3 of them prematurely fail on me within the past 2 years and at $240-$300 per tire, I'm tired or constantly replacing tire with low miles on them due to failure.  So I'm looking at going with bigger tires if I can. When I'm searching the web for bigger tires I keep coming across 35x13.50R26 tires. I'm wondering if these tires will fit my current wheels or will I need to order different wheels. Right now my 07 is at factory height, but I'm getting ready to have a 5in rough country lift installed with new shocks to match. So with that said could these 35x13.50R26 tires work on my already owned wheels, or will I need to go with different wheels altogether?

  4. First let me start out by saying, i haven't had a car payment in 2.5 years. I paid my last car off so fast i have been off the hook for a while now. I have been thinking of a new Tahoe for a few years but i wanted to wait until the body style was new. Today, we officially recieved our US Patent for the SMD DD-1 so i decided to go ahead and just take a look at what is out there. The Tahoes were all very nice. But when i got in the Escalade it was game over. But it was a little out of my budget. I was trying to talk them down just a little but he said he had an all black, fully loaded 2015 (used) with only 20,000 miles on it. He asked if i was interested...i said HELL YA, as long as it wasn't a smoker or dog owner (well at least the dog didn't ride in it). I don't like used car smells, i like new car smells. But this thing is basically still new. Smells new and i got 7 year, 100,000 mile warranty on it. I got a pretty good deal i think :D

But that is beside the point. I am already thinking of what i want to do. Already called my boys at Wilwood brakes before i even got there just in case i did get something :D Who knows how long before i can start anything on it, i have to settle into having a car payment again before i spend money on it. I already got the post car-purchase jitters right now. But that happens every time.

    to be continued!

Oh, just to let you guys know, i worked my ass off for this 800 score! I finally touched it! Not bad from someone who had no hope of being above 500 at one time.

Congrats on the new truck Steve. I love the new Caddie too. If I wasn't trying to buy a house here in the next year or so I would totally love to get a new ride. Even used that Caddie is out of my budget, but a 2015 Burban would be more my style anyway since I enjoy the bigger space. I can't wait to see what you do with this as far a sound upgrades, but I will indeed be paying attention to this for possible future ideas when I get my new truck.

  5. Are you going to get the car re-dynoed after this is done to see how much of a performance drop the car took from the added weight of the sound system? Just wondering.

It won't show any difference because the dyno measures horsepower and torque, not power-to-weight.

Thanks. That's indeed something that I've learned new today.

  6. Are you going to get the car re-dynoed after this is done to see how much of a performance drop the car took from the added weight of the sound system? Just wondering.

nope. Im done with the Dyno.

besides, on a Dyno, i don't see how the extra weight would affect it that much. It probably affects it more on the road then on a rolling metal wheel LOL

also, with the system installed, the car probably will never see a track. I don't mind though, its FAST enough and gets faster when i hit that little spray bottle :D

    Thanks.

  7. nahh bro your all good lol -

the $140 price will be good for another 3 months or so.......but i will honor that price for SMD members probably forever. I will have a coupon code just for you guys once i officially raise the price.

    so no worries :)

That what I'm talking about. I wish more business folks where honest about there stuff like you. I wouldn't be in the process of suing the wheel shop for my money back because they didn't keep their word. I'll more than likely wait a few weeks after this initial orders ship out before I order mines. Want to make sure you guys work out the kinks in your process.

  8. I was trying to come up with another way to resolve this issue without going to court over it really. That was the reason for the question regarding the machine/metal shop. I really don't want to have to deal with two court proceedings at the same time but I don't know if I have some sort of time limit in getting my money back from this store. And the divorce, is well a divorce and that's going to happen no matter what. Its just all bad timing for everything really.

    :nea:

  9. Me too. I just heard back from the Better Business Bureau on this and they still haven't heard back from the shop. So I've filed a consumer protection claim against the shop with the Missouri Attorney General's office, and I'm in the process of finding another lawyer that will help me deal with this issue since its looking more and more like I'm going to have to file a civil lawsuit with them to get my money back. I don't understand how these people can justify taking my money and not providing me with the product that I was told they could get me with no issues. I haven't seen those rims since April when I was trying to get them installed on the truck.

The fact that I'm having to deal with this as well as a divorce that's turning uglier by the week is starting to become to much for me to baer. But I just can't sit back and let these people take me for my hard earned money.

  10. So I was talking to some of my friends about the rotten deal that I'm going through regarding my Rims see HERE!!!!! for details. Anyway one of the guys said that I could find a machinist that could possibly shave the offset down on the wheels from a +18mm to +31. Has anyone ever had this done before? If so what does this usually run price wise? Also if anyone here is in the St. Louis MO area and know of a shop that could do this could you please let me know.

I'm now looking at this as an options. The reason being is that my state on small claims court judgments only allow a person to sue up to $3K max. This shop has almost $4K of my money. I can still sue them in civil court, but that will require a lawyer to file. And with me going through my divorce right now I just can't really fight two court battles at the same time. Nor can I afford it, so I'm trying once again to take the higher road on this issue and see if there is a way where I can come out of this deal without loosing my money or rims.

  11. A co-worker of mines let me borrow his Fluke O-Scope and I wanted to have the chance to actually set my gains on my amplifiers correctly. I'm having a hard time finding the 50hz and 1khz test tones needed for this. Also since 90% of my music is now coming from my iPod, should I get those tones in MP3 format or should I burn them to CD and use the CD player to set the gains on the amps?

Oh yeah I plan on ordering the SMD DD and know that this process will be a bit easier, but I still would like to try and set my stuff with the O-scope if at all possible today.
