  1. fyi difference is alpine and such have a 2db volume gain knob vs the 1db in pioneers

:01nocomment8so: aren't most alpines 2v? they dont get to 4v until you really break the bank

Yeah alot of the newer models after 07 I've seen most of them run 4v outputs, however I've metered mine and it's been in the 5v range at optimum volume level.

To the poster that said 24 on the alpine volume level. Supposedly what I've heard from MANY alpine dealers is they've also noticed the newer alpines like my 9887 that volume level 22-24 is a sweetspot where every aspect of the output is perfect.

About pioneers having a 1db scale at each level of volume, I'd believe more of a 1/2 db scale with as many levels of volume they have. The higher premiere models of pioneers are damn nice, but the lower models just piss me off. :censored:

  2. That reminds me of when I graduated....we used expanding builder's foam to block all school bells, then disconnected all of the PA speakers around the school, then created a network loop in a classroom. It was great. No bells, anouncements, no period times as they couldn't tell the students to move on, all servers down, no inter-class phones....it was bedlam. I laughed a little.

Ok now that's pretty classic right there! :clapping:

  3. it came with an adapter. it plugs into the headunit and then splits into an ipod adapter and a usb adapter.

most new headunits allow you to use a usb flash drive.

imo. it is much better than a ipod because you control it from the headunit and you can organize folders by artists and then organize albums from that artist inside of that folder.

Yeah that's a feature I love from my mp3 data CD's, however with an ipod you can still have it Artist>album>song.

It's not bad using the ipod, I just wish I had one still.

  4. the wax is in the resin, not just the top of the layer. if you work with a bonding resin you will find out it is almost impossible to sand the sandpaper will stick to the resin instead of straching the surface when sanding a resin with wax in it

I'll be damned, I'd never knew that/ or ever had that happen. Eh, eitherway, the way I work with glass is tried and true, so I'll stick to it. :)

  5. I listened to "Bleeding me" all the way home today. I forgot how Metallica had a good song of two in the 90's.

Hell yeah! That's a hell of a track if you've got the S&M album.

Sounds to me like the alpine doesn't know how to process the newer larger flash drives. If I remember that H/U is from a year or two ago, not sure if 16GB drives were getting used to much that alpine put the technology into the processing.

If you absolutely NEED to have more music space I would recommend getting the full speed ipod and a large ipod that you plan on leaving in the vehicle. Go to a pawn shop and look for a simple, cheap, large ipod to hold all your music.

I'd be willing to bet even the portable HDD are even too large for the alpine to process. Look into the booklet, I want to say they should say the limits of how big of space you can be safe with.

  6. I used to be able to get an AR (M-4 clone) for like $500.00 with a military discount. Now I can't even touch one for less than a G.

No one can, it's alotta nonsense. :(

.223 ammo is insane now as well.

Hope that article is right though, I've been in the market for a few guns for a while now and knowing that it shouldn't be as big a deal to get them soon it makes you feel better.

  7. Hate to break it to you man but that's not a senior prank, that's just the senior class fucking with one dude. :lazy:

Better watch out, the kid's gonna pop a cap in everyone's ass while yall are at lunch.

Gotta do something better than that if you want to brag about a senior prank. You gotta do something that's funny, but still fairly harmless, but something all the seniors can appreciate. A fairly harmless PRANK, not just fucking up some kid's high school year.

Take for example a good one that was on MTV, some kids snuck into the main office and tapped a cordless phone into the main line. The phone would have a line you could dial and it would go over the campus' announcement system, so they would take turns playing party music over the entire school intercoms one day.

See that's a cool senior prank, they could still get in trouble, but odds are even the police will get a chuckle over it if they got caught, and they can't get in THAT much trouble because they didn't hurt anyone. Also the chances of a pissed off kid with a fucked up reputation wont come back and blow everyone up.

Have fun, just don't hurt anyone, waste the school's money, don't break anything, or make a obscene performance that could be considered illegal.

  8. Yes, that's an electrolytic capacitor, if you solder it back on, make sure your polarity is correct because unlike a non polar cap (bass blockers, X-over) it does need to be soldered in the correct way.

Chances are, if that's loose in the amp there's more loose. I've repaired many of good amps, and many of crap amps and one thing that happens alot is the component leads just slip out of the solder joint, or simply break at the component and you have to replace the component entirely.

And you can attach amps to your box, you just have to know when it's acceptable and will be sturdy. See how mine's done? if you go to the build you can see how the amp mounting area is completely braced and solid.
