  1. check if the amplifier has any DC on the output, the 500.2 has issues at one time. DC would make a sub smoke, its as bad as a completely clipped signal. DC turns the voice coil into a heating element.
  2. if you are doing all active x-overs for your front speakers then you would need 4ch's so if you want to do full active in your car then your talking about at least 8-10 ch's for your mids and highs. each 360 can only tune 6 ch's so you would need two for this type of setup.
  3. check that the fuse it tight as that amp is a beast and does not like low voltage. I believe on that shut off voltage is 10.5v when most amps shut off at 9v. If the fuse is loose it will cause the amp to see low voltage. also some of those amps had some bad solder joints on the power and ground connectors and the fact that the amp draws a bit more than 650 amps doesn't help either.
  4. It has to do with impedance of the RCA's causing the noise. Back in the day when car audio was made for the experience installer the RCA impedance was around 50ohms and this was great because there was no noise or any problems. well more and more people started installing their self, bad grounds on the amps would draw ground from the RCA's and eventually fry a few ground traces in the deck. In order to solve this issue all the car audio companies have moved up their impedance on their head units anywhere from 2.5k to as high at 10k so that a bad install wont burn anything in the head unit. This high impedance will cause ripple to ride on the ground wire of the RCA and cause all sorts of problems. This problem is amplified 10x if your amplifier has a differential input, as it relies in exact signals going into it for noise rejection.
  5. boosters were a thing of the past. Its very rare to see them now. back about 15 years ago every car audio company made one. The were no that good as they just used very good chip amps. Decks back then had no real power so it was a good option. Now deck's have much better chip amps than the ones used in power boosters. There was a few companies that turned to Mosfet output stages and would push 90x2 straight from your dash. that was power.
  6. TR-7 is very reliable. and yes its a pain if you use 2 switches as everytime you turn your key you have to do it again and again. (Remember its against the law) ha ha
  7. its 4 ga at the connector even if you strip some of the wire it will only fit 4ga rubber jacket. I run 1/0 as close to the amp and then used a high quality dist. block. The 1500 draws about 180 amps when your beating on it at 1ohm. thats with around 75% efficiency.
  8. Rockford amps had that problem for a while. during reflow the pots would raise up and that would eventually leave enough space for up and down movement on the pot. with time the leads would break. the pot needs to be replace, the leads are usually broken at the base of the pot.
  9. If your enclosure is tuned very low like in the 20's then you would set it a couple of hz under your tuned frequency. The subsonic is high pass filter that you can use to cut out any frequencies on the low end of the audio spectrum that can not be produced anyways. Music is usually not recorded that low unless you have some of the bass CD's. Low frequencies are very tough on amplifiers and is where most heat is created. The sine wave being so long in duration at 20hz really puts a strain on the amplifiers power supply. So if your enclosure is not capable of producing those low frequencies then its best to have it on. Your not wasting your amplifiers power producing a low frequency sine wave that your system is not going to efficiently reproduce.
  10. That amp is actually the old power T400.4 and a T500.1. seperate power supplies for both amps, When it was all said and done they were pushing over 800 on the sub ch. A great mod for that amp was replacing the front transformer with a T300.2 transformer, with that setup that amp would push 170 watts @ 4ohm on each front ch. You could never use it at 1 ohm ever again because the power supply would fail but for a simple system that set up was just LOUD. Memories! ! !

  13. When an amplifier states it can accept up to 6vrms inputs it means that with the gain all the way down it will take 6v to drive it to clip. Having a higher voltage pre-out on a deck only means you don't turn it up as much because any voltage after 6 volts will just overload the input section of the amplifier.
  14. Sounds like an output device is out. With amplifiers if the fuses blow as soon as the amp is plugged in, its a power supply fet that is blown. If the fuses blow after the unit is turned on then its something tied to the secondary side of the transformer. (i.e. Bridge rectifiers, Channel Fets) Either way it has to be repaired, The fact that you washed your car could be coincidence.
  15. On a sub amp you want to use frequencies between 50 to 60hz because that is where the crossover peak is. Those frequencies are least affected by the crossover or infrasonic filters.
