Yeah the frame would be better then seat belt bolt. But the battery negative is best. And look at your other thread I responded.
Oh okay, I see! So, just ground to the actual frame and if I still get a little dimming, get another battery?
-
So if I go out and buy another battery tomorrow, I could just use the battery's negative post instead...correct? Cause on a multiple battery setup, you just run power and ground wire from your battery under the hood to the extra battery, right?
-
So run a ground wire from the battery under the hood to the amp in the back? I always thought you were supposed to have the shortest ground wire possible?
-
So I was thinking of drilling a hole through the body, adding a grommet and running 0g ground wire to the frame and connecting there. Better, right?
-
Already done big 3 and just installed a Mechman 270A and optima yellowtop
-
I have a grounding issue becausey lights are still dimming and I've always suspected my amp ground was the culprit. The local guys told me the seat bolt or seatbelt bolt, so that's what I did but I've never felt comfortable with it. Anyway, I'm gonna redo it tomorrow. Should I ground it to the frame or just make a new hole in the body, sand it down, and use a bigger bolt?
-
just for future reference, your headlights dont dim because they are HID's. they output the same power with 9-16v or whatever your ballast states. ive started my car with my lights on and they didnt even flicker.
See, that's what I thought. Thanks for clearing that up!

I have always had horrible experiences with AutoZone testing my alts or starters. The guy even took off the positive connection and tested it; passed. Took off the negative; passed. Their machine is fucked up and made to let it pass so they don't owe you a new part.

Yeah! He didn't even sound like he knew what he was doing! It was pissing me off!
-
i would replace that yellow top with a xs power
Soon...I hope.
-
You should find out what your voltage is to see if its dropping on a load. But I don't know, check grounds might be a good idea as well
Yeah, I need to redo the grounds going to the amps. That'd probably help! It's the one place, I've always worried about. I think I'm just gonna run a ground through the body down to the frame! So, that way it's solid!

so, i'm thinking i just need a battery?
-
And I said the resting voltage of your battery.
Sorry, he didn't tell me. He actually didn't seem like he knew too much! He just kept wanting to know what kind of amp I was running that would need that big of alternator!
-
Yeah, I just don't have the tools. But I've heard, AutoZone doesn't check alternators correctly unless it's actually out of the truck?!
-
Okay, so I just went and blasted it for a good 3-4 min. The only lights that are dimming are my interior lights and my parking lights. My headlights don't dim at all, that I can tell. So...just extra batteries??
-
Test your alternator. And test the resting voltage of your battery. You should not be experiencing voltage drop. Those Mechman units are beasts, but it is possible to have an issue when you're putting out so many units.
I went to AutoZone a little bit ago and they said my voltage was 14.8 BUT when I asked him what my alt was putting out, he said 90A at idle, but he never actually brought the big setup out to check. It was this little black box. So, what does that mean?
-
you could have installed the alt wrong
and um hella lights on bumper, that could be taking a lot of juice, dont know how many and of what size tho
the Hella lights aren't hooked up right now. Yeah, I've got a call and email into Mechman right now. I think I just need more batteries cause it is a lot louder than it was. I should say this, my interior lights are the ones dimming. I'll go try it real quick with headlights on and see how it goes. But they're HID's, so I don't know what'll mean compared to regular halogens.
-
Oh and should I run extra 0g wire to the back batteries or double up the Big3? Thanks.
-
Awesome! I was just afraid my alternator was janky! I just put it in yesterday morning! HA HA. I'm new to the "high output alternator" and "lots of batteries" group! So, I might get two 3400's. That should do it, right? OR should I just get a 3100?? Thanks again guys! Ya'll are helping a lot!
-
Okay, this is what I'm running.
Pioneer headunit
Rockford t1500-bd on two Rockford T1 15's
Two Alpine MRP-f600 on highs
Big 3 with Knu 0/1g wire
Optima Yellowtop battery
Mechman 270A alternator
Why are my lights still dimming? Do I just need more batteries? If so, how many? And I've been thinking of adding another T1500-bd. So, I need help! Suggestions?

i cant wait to get my mechman 270
what kind of vehicle do you have, bro?
-
sweet thing looks sweet
they are expensive but worth knowing your buying good stuff
yeah, can't wait to see what this beast can do!!
-
now that you have yours you can buy me one
ha ha! Man, it was hard to let go of that money, but I've always wanted to do a fullblown system! So, I did it! Hell, it's just money!
-
So, I got a new suprise...what's inside??
Ooooh man! It's my 270A Mechman Alternator!!!
Well, I got off work around 6 and came home to start taking my alternator out. Lemme tell you, getting an alternator out of a Colorado is a bitch and a half!! It took me a little over two hours to just get the stock one out. The lower mounting bolt is hard as hell to get to, you have to go through the drivers side wheel wheel. AND...just to get it out of the top, I had to do all sorts of ancient Chinese maneuvers to get it out from around all the wires, brackets and fuse box.
Anyway, finally got it out, and got a couple of comparison pics...
Much beefier...
Large case conversion...
I should hopefully have it the rest of the way in tomorrow night or Sunday morning! I'm stoked!! Also, picked up a new battery, too.

I'm thinking the 3100 will be too long for my truck battery spot. I've only got like 10 to 10-1/2" of room for it. I might be able to take the tray out and fit an extra inch. I'm thinking the d2400 would fit better.
Best grounding Point?

Thanks bro! I'm gonna re-ground my wire tomorrow and see what it looks like! Thanks so much!
