How would I go about finding any of these competitions in the Detroit, Michigan area? I don't want to drive more than an hour, so anywhere withing like 45 minutes would be fine. I just want to get my system metered, and so do some of my friends. Should I just go to like Iasca, and meca and db drag websites or something?

go up to a best buy or mickey shorr (idk if those are nation wide or not lol, i thought they had stores all over the place though). Best buy should be 20$, and mickey shorr will over charge you but just say 20 bucks you just sold one to my friend for 20. I hate their stores but it's easy to get a LOC from. Circuit city might have some but there closing soo yeah...
