  1. I think round ports are easier myself. Build the box then play around with the port length to your liking, as stated. I want to do this actually and, to me, the L ports are going to be a bit tricker and non-adjustable.
  2. Perfect. I ask and I get exactly what I need. Thanks! So what is the "DAT" they are referring to for rounded corners? People don't use round ports anymore huh? I am truly getting old
  3. And what the hell is the manual saying about filling the box with poly fill? That is wild. I would like to lightly restrict movement of the speaker though, I don't want this box to allow to much air flow.
  4. I want to run to home depot tomorrow and grab some mdf and some pvc and come away with a decent, cheap, basic box for two 12's. Obviously ported. I looked here: http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/boxes.asp And I was 'baffled' by the choices, nothing I even remotely comprehended. I just want to copy a basic box tuned to 32hz. I don't know why I can't find a simple diagram easily. googling comes up with some wacky stuff. I guess I already know sorta what I want based on the old plywood version i have, I just only know i want my port diamater to be the same distance from the rear wall? I'm lost actually. Sorry to rely so heavily on your help the damn kicker manual doesn't show round ports.
  5. YEah, does anyone know about how much they cost to make? I mean, these can't be wholesaling out for more than $30-40 and that seems like a slim profit margin for the factory. Oh well. Its a crazy leap to go from 12 year old speakers to these. And yeah, it was like xmas, although I can't hook em up for a few days yet
  6. Why did I decide to get them? Well the fact they were only like $75 was a huge factor. I wanted a bargain. These seem like a lot of speaker for that much. And yeah 28 lbs for 12, lol, so the 15 is the same as 2? not too surprising since the uh, net displacement is twice mine and lets not forget yours are 2 inches taller
  7. lol i know. i was trying to think of some excuse to post pics of the new speakers since I enjoy everyone else always displaying their cache before the build.. but somehow two just doesn't seem like much. I just took one out of the box and I am just amazed by how huge they are. To my eyes they seem like 15's.
  8. I'm scared of those things. I'm hiding out in the other room right now. Hopefully I can figure out how to give them a nice home Plus they are way heavier than I thought. UPS said 28 lbs but those things are monsters. I can't imagine what the 15's weigh or the L7 models
  9. The UPS guy just left and the severity of my decions have now sunk in. Complete strangers on the internet have talked me into some upgrades. Heck, even photobucket has advice when I log in, its trying to sell me the grills for em from nextag! LOL
  10. I'm just confused that my amps frequency response is 27 and the speakers is 25, so that means its capable of getting that low right? I mean, that is probably beyond what is safe.
  11. That is a really cool cut for the sub opening. Wow. Makes sense and looks nice!
  12. what else is weird is those walmart kits for like 8 gauge say 680 watt kit!! and in reality, thats not really true, and its amps that matter anyhow... its weird. like, does that wire assume you have some super efficient amplifier? if i didn't care about wire i'd stick with my rockford 8 gauge that i have in there, but its just going to choke my poor amp
  13. lol, i gotcha. Well what worries me is actually just doing it rigth now, so I don't have to worry about doing it again later. that and damage to my car or amp or whatever. but i'm mostly just lazy. and man do some of those wire packages on ebay look shoddy!
  14. LOL, i didn't even know who Tech N9ne was until he came to this random small hippy festival out in Wisconsin a couple of summers ago and I had passed out in my tent and barely heard him, i guess he was walkin around. he also got some complaints because he was swearing really loud into the night air at like after 1030, 11 at night lol. Was a weird place for him to play
  15. Oh if anyone wants to hear a... ahem, sample, please PM me and I'll be happy to see what can be done. And btw, this isn't boom boom boom techno or rap with a beat, its electronica where the bass itself is an instrument. It plays notes, all very low and highs are blips bleeps and organic splashes of water. some good sweeps here.
  16. Actually I don't know why it would be a waste. I know its a waste of money if I have the box and desire to tune mine, however if its properly sealed and the right dimensions, it should be great. From what I've learned here about the fluidity of the air and the travel of the speaker, that box would give plenty of leeway. I know I'd still have trunk noise, but it would boom!
  17. Anyone see the wire on ebay that comes with free tweeters? I know nothing about tweets, but I know enough to be very scared of that auction.
  18. lol ok. Just trying to be safe and get the most bang for my buck. The part where I make the box I have sound and look great was actually the part of this I was most looking forward to. Its a hobby, and hobbies are supposed to be fun. Getting that best buy crap would take most fun out. Also, I finally found my amp specs: http://catalog.ebay.com/_W0QQ_fclsZ1QQ_pid...295QQ_tabZ1%22} Its bottoming out @ 17hz? That sounds a tad low. {edit} now I learn it does have a SSF? 'Infinity's proprietary Dynamic Bass Optimizer (DBO) circuit matches variable bass boost with a variable subsonic filter to enable low frequency fine-tuning while still providing robust speaker protection.'
  19. Thats what I'm hearing. Sounds like my box is going to need some work. I'm ready to just give up and buy one of the $45 sealed 1.4 cu ft boxes from Best Buy
  20. What about all the HU nowadays that have full range of crossovers themselves? I know my Pioneer has Sub Settings 2> I believe and it has different frequencies you can control.
  21. Some people being the ones that write the manual? I guess its a CYA deal?
  22. The day I have to start putting fuses on my remote wire is the day I've gone too far with this hobby.
  23. Ok, sorry. I swear I saw the thread a couple of days ago but now I couldn't find it. I wish I could erase threads.... some of mine are annoying even to me lol
  24. I am trying to figure out how this would possibly ever be an issue. Isn't it low voltage being used anyhow? [edit: well, its all low voltage.. but you know what I mean]
