then you don't need one in the dash. Unless you are going to be COMPETING in the TOP LEVELS of sound quality, you won't see the benefit of a dash mounted sub. i would sooner mount one under the passenger side than facing up in the dash anyway
-
Scott Buwalda used a 10 in his 240 build...that car sounds incredible, but it's also a completely custom dash with a large sealed enclosure for that sub...once you start cutting the dash you are talking about a SERIOUSLY involved install...you need expert levels of experience for it.

every shop should charge to troubleshoot...$20 is entirely reasonable.
anything bought on the internet and installed at your shop should be installed as is...meaning no product warranty. by all means warranty your work. If you build a box, warranty it. If you wire something wrong, warranty it. If the amp fries and you did everything right...not your problem, just be sure to state that up front, and put it ON THE RECEIPT.

Dude in Texas is running a DC level 5 with 1 PB XTA5000 at .3-ohm (a little over 7500 watts output) in a DeVille. Trunk car. last I heard was 157.x
-
your amp might be oscillating. is the amp used? did you short the output leads at some point while the amp was powered on?

I've taken mine out..had both pierced twice, once horizontally and once vertically for a true door knocker. hell yes, if fucking hurts. the first time I got it done I blew a load in my pants...didn't even have a hardon...maybe that's why i got it done 3 more times

Niel Case is the original bass mekanik...he brought Billy E on as a partner recently...they've been producing for IASCA, MECA, midwestSPL and dBDrag for a few years now, in addition to their regular stuff
-
Billy E Okon announced today that the Bass Mekanik finished their new album last night..."The New Kings of Bass" to be released this spring. Will post links when he gets samples online
-
he uses site enhancing oil. great for shows when you need a little local help RIGHT NOW, but he uses it all the time, evidently.

Congratulations to you and your family, steve...but you're making me feel old..you're not that much older than I am

O geez SQ is NOT and i repeat NOT meant to be loud at all. I would never use an 18" in a SQ setup. I would run maybe two 10"s sealed but thats it. Your mids and high are supposed to blend very "smoothly" which mean bass isn't louder then mids and highs and vice versa.
I would...all day long...and I used to compete SQ in IASCA (early 90's FWIW) an 18 can easily reproduce lower frequencies than a 10. sure, if I use 3 10's I can get the same effect, but as long as I keep tuning the way I do (50Hz Brickwall XO) the snap from a small sub doesn't matter. My mids make up for that. back when I was in the lanes if your car didn't FREQ at 130dB you were DQed...pink noise at 130dB or you were done...so, yes, SQ can be loud....but clarity comes first
-
don't drive around with your music above 110dB for extended periods...stop laughing...I'm serious.
avoid headphones at all times

exploder isn't can-bus. you can fix it with resistors (check bulb resistance). What ballast are you using? If you're not using slim digital ballasts you're going to have issues

I used to have it something awful...I couldn't understand conversations because of it. that sound is the hair follicles in your ear dying off from damage. Tinnitus can be caused from bacteria, virus or loud noise. Impacts (gun shots) can usually be recovered quickly, sustained noise takes longer. Continuous damage is usually irreparable. I have lost about 15% of my hearing and I won't get it back.
WEAR HEARING PROTECTION
-
Who else has it? Cuz I know I do lol. I mean in your ears. Not super bad but its there. But I guess that's what you get when your a car audio freak
that's your ear nerves slowly dying...use ear protection

Mike offered me a spot on the show...I'm not in to drama.

no reason to go in through the firewall at all.

I think so...typos get in the way a little here. when the cable runs up to the hole water drips off the curve instead of flowing into the cabin
-
I think I remember seeing people use PVC pipe as conduit before.
This works, also. bend it up against the body to the engine bay, but drill a hole at the bottom of the bend so water can drain...otherwise you'll end up with a pipe full of water
-
I don't have one...I've done hundreds of them though. I haven't been in the bay for about 6 years. Run the cable straight down from the main harness to the frame rail. Secure the cable with screw secure zip ties every 6 inches. ANY droop in the cable will grow over time, so make sure it's pretty tight. Run the cable back up through the rear tub...do not run it straight in or water will follow the cable into the cabin. secure the hole with a waterproof grommet (screw and lock 2 or 3 piece type)
Center Sub ?

if you've never heard a true free air/infinite baffle sub you don't know what you're missing.
HOWEVER!!! - that would not be a true infinite baffle, considering the rear wave would still be reaching the passenger compartment. Unless you tuned the rear wave you would have massive cancellation and oscillation.
