  1. It's the fan for the CPU Believe me I have spare hard drives, also there are 2 separate raid 5 volumes on this server. It will let me know when a drive fails and it will rebuild the array. I think I typed the space wrong after I reread the post. After the raid 5 arrays I have 14.2TB of usable space. The last server was a power hog. This one was built to conserve energy. It even has active power management to help with the energy savings. **edit** all the fans are huge and over sized in this build. I did that to keep the fan speed down and keep the noise down to a minimum. Which controller is it? Is it a CPU hog (I assume it doesn't have on board processing)? I've been wanting to consolidate my boxes to VMs to save energy as well and I dig that case as well as the one in my workstation now (Cosmos). I find it funny that we are finally starting to get to a place where people saying a number like 10 or 20 automatically gets me thinking TB rather than GB especially since I've been around PCs when you automatically assume MB Are computers your hobby or are you old enough to be doing it as a living already or? Just curious The controller has on board processing. Its and adaptec unit. I forget which model. The motherboard also does Raid also. Computers are not my hobby, they are my living. I am in the middle of converting some of the servers at work to VM's... Just that alone will save us money in power and cooling. I know what you mean with the MB comment. The first computer I built had a 20MB hard drive. The Cache's on the hard drives in this server have more space than the 1st hard drive I owned!

  3. honestly... It's a card I had laying around. I did like the fact that it had no fan and a huge heat sink. With no GPU fan this thing is QUIET! **edit** as Sanitarium pointed out it was also a CHEAP card I had laying around.
  4. Here is the bonus... my last file server was ancient... and only 1.8tb's of space. This new one has so much more room and my power bill went down by $40 a month!
  5. Both, also has an FTP Server on it. It stores content for all the Big Screen in the other room. It streams all the content to the TV. I have most of my DVDs backed up on there, including my Blu-Ray DVD's also. Basically I have 75% of my movies available on demand. I'm still working on encoding the last 25%. Also with the multiple raid 5 volumes. my Family backs up everything they have to it.
  6. Most of this file server build was made using green hardware (aka power efficient) Let me know what you think. O.S. Windows 7 x64 Ultimate XBMC Media Server Motherboard: Gigabyte ep43-ds3 CPU: Core Duo E7500 RAM: 4 gigs of ddr2 I had laying around. Video: Radeon HD5450 Case Antec Nine Hundred. 5 drive Hot Swap Bay Raid Card 1 1tb Hard Drive (boot drive) 9 2tb Western Digital Green Drives With all the Raid 5 in place usable space is around 15.5TB ok, enough specs. on to the pics!
  7. That is the reason I use actual fuses. I have seen some Circuit Breakers stay on after repeatedly being tripped.
  8. I'm looking to replace my Battery up front and I would like to get the biggest one I can fit in the stock location. I have done my homework and will be going with XS-D3100's in the back. However I have no clue which one will fit up front.
  9. Just FYI... i am still trying to kill 2 Hifonics SQ 15's Back from 2002... They are rated at 600 watts RMS also and I am feeding them with over 1500 RMS clean.
  10. If you need any help at all ... just let me know... I will come up and help for free... I work during the week, but I have my weekends...
