-
"Bumping down the street in my 01 Jimmy
Looking at the girls who be looking so pretty
I got the bass playing low and the speakers turned up high
Making my subs go bump bump bump!"

Don't think I have ever introduced myself, my name is Jared I have actually been here lurking for about 4 years posting occasionally and asking questions. Cars in general are my life and i don't consider myself a normal car guy because i don't just like one kind of vehicle, i pretty much like everything. Currently no system but hoping to get a system here soon seeing as i'm getting a new vehicle soon.

How does one determine how big to make the sealed area and how large and where to tune the ported area? Are you guys running formulas, guessing blindly, or are you using software? I have BBP6 and winISD on my other laptop, but its slow, so i usually just stick to my mac.
if you search around the internet you can find more info but from what I know you want a 2:1 or 3:1 ratio with sealed being the smaller side of the ratio and the sealed side should be the recommended size, and for port is should be tuned between 42-48hz depending on if it's a daily setup or spl
-
2.2 sealed
4.2 ported
Tune to 41-42
15sqin per
Good start
Alright thanks I'll try to figure something out for the space I have to work with
Here is what I got this time it's as close as i could get to those specs without using really weird fractions
Sealed side
Ported side.

get the sealed up to 2-2.2net and ported down to 3-3.5net and higher tune
My only concern other then the low tune would be the orientation of the subs, im wondering if facing them at the port like that will cause port unloading.
I thought I saw somewhere that as long as you couldn't see the subs through the port then it would be okay, but i could try to figure something else out
I think the box ratio is good. I have seen several 4 th order boxes loaded with the subs firing towards the port and they worked well. I am curious what you are going for. Spl? Or a daily driver? If a daily driver I would try and design it with a tunable port. I will give you muck better chance of getting the port how you want it without rebuilding your box.
Yes it would be for a daily driver and what should I tune it to for best performance in a daily

OK so I decided I would try to design a 4th Order Box for 2 SA-12's and here is what I came up with,
Sealed Portion Specs
Ported Portion Specs
The Box Built in Sketchup,
So I would like some critique on weather or not I designed this right and if I didn't design it right what I did right,
Thanks,

Box Design is confusing to me but that is due to my lack of knowledge of 6th orders but it looks like an awesome build, ready to see some vids.

ok so i found these speakers on craigslist here is the link http://mankato.craigslist.org/ele/3041832514.html, they look sweet but can anyone tell me what electrophopnic air suspension might mean.
Thanks in advance,

I think that could work there are plenty of people that could help you design the box but what subs are you thinking or whats your budget for subs that will help alot in the design process and dimensions of the area you want to fit the box in helps to.

That is a member on here, here is the link to his build log http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/72959-dcaudio-integra-subs-are-here-doors-playing-pg-62/

interestingly enough man, when I went to school for autobody they told us that some of the best color match painters they met were colorblind to a certain extent. they said it helped them see shades better than people who aren't colorblind; so you may be able to see if a color is too dark, too light, or flops too dark/light comparing to the original on the car. Id definitely still pursue it man, and like everyone else says, just ask.
Thats cool i hope the same goes for myself because i feel like i can see shades pretty well.
-
Im also color blind little worse than you shades are a prob for me. I have a hard time with more colors too. I work in a cabinet shop, dealing with different species of wood. I had to learn ways around seeing off colors like different shades of gray in maple, or the greener side of poplar. If I have an issue and cant make up my mind on what side is the better side or whatever I ask…never be ashamed to ask. I think you can over come it don't let something that small stop you from doin what you want to do.
Just like the guy said before me...dont let something so small stop you. Even if you need to..you can have someone else look at the color before you use it. Or you can have samples on a paper that will show you the difference. There are a lot of techniques out there...dont let one small problem stop you from doing something you love.
Thanks for the encouragement guys, I am still gonna go for it and if it ends up being to incredibly hard to do then I am gonna go for Auto Tech which I still might do even if go through with Auto Body,
Thanks again guys,

So I am looking to go to college for Auto Body Repair and my parents brought up something, I have a form of color blindness where I can't quite tell what colors are there is only a few colors the i have troubles with like if its a really bright red sometimes it looks orange to me, and sometimes a mix light brown up with green. So my question is do you think I can overcome this because its only those two colors and i can see shades well?
Thanks,

These bills also will block sites like ebay and craigslist because some of the big name companies don't want you to be able to buy from someone who is not a certified seller.

I would do the double baffle for sure, that's the surface that flexes the most, rods on that power maybe is too much on the safe side.. whatever you do take the displacements into account.
ok i think i will just double baffle it then
-
You could easily add a MDF layer on the baffle face. I agree that extensive bracing may not be necessary if you are running low power.
So should i add an extra baffle and add dowels to the box or should i just do one or the other, i'm only looking to run between 400 and 500 watts total.
