  1. He wouldn't let you look inside?!?!

    What an assclown!

How you gonna build or buy that kinda setup and be all shy or secretive about it?

It's not like the design is some super secret, Hi-tech build like the 1-2 extreme guys w/ 1-2 18's in super tuned bandpasses doin 160db.

Concept: BUY HELLA WOOFERS, CRAM EM INTO A WAGON, add power.

OOOOH such an innovative setup. (Sarcasm)

Oh well it's a nice setup but if the owner is a DOUCHE about it that kinda kills it for me.

  2. IMO it depends on how "raised" those stripes are.

If you want it all uniform finish in black, and the stripes are raised a bit, they will show up even in all black. I would take it down as much as possible w/ paint remover/sanding combo and re-primer, and paint as u want it.

    Just my opinion.

If the strips are not raised, i guss just sanding would be ok as long as you ruff it up and re-primer too. I f you want it "candy" lookin, lay some silver first.

  3. lookin good.

    Cell phone pics?

    HAHA NO!

Actual Hard copy pix from ONE-TIME use cameras (like 2 for $5)..then I scanned the pics onto my pc w/ my scanner. I know shitty quality but yall get the idea.

I think my cell pix (like on the lexus) were better. Oh well. working on a digi cam soon enough. Cant really go take more w/ the celly cuz this cars long gone.

  4. I was gonna say if you look on ROE (realmofexcursion.com) they did "the great 12 challenge" to find the "best" overall and the CVX's did very well...might even have won I forget. I would say CVX 12's would be a good choice and around $150each BNIB shipped from ebay stores all over. Less if you Bid war em.

    Hope that helps.

    Kicker FTW

  5. I would say do a SIMILAR or IDENTICAL setup to what Steve did in his civic the FIRST time. He had to use the whole trunk to get those 18's in there in a ported box but w/ Kicker 12's your airspace req's will be way less so it should leave you "spare" room/access to ur plastic-donut-tire-thingy.

Check out the PRE-THEFT build of the civic.

    http://www.sounddomain.com/ride/239025

    Hope that helps.

If not feel free to throw more Q's out there.

Like Scratchy said-Steve is a pretty busy guy w/ 3-4 projects goin at once PLUS HIS REAL JOB, so it might take a while b4 he gets back to ya as he gets a TONN of "Hey Steve!!!" questions everyday.

GroundPounder, Ray, and few others on this site are quite knowledgable so just toss your Q out and if someone has ur info, you should have a response pretty quick. Otherwise PM Steve direct.

  6. Ok this one goes back before I built my car  FOR REAL (I had 2 cvr15's in a custom box built by a shop and i was happy with it).

    Ride: 1995 Ford escort 2dr

I don't have any full shots of the car but it was this color green and only diff is 2dr not 4dr.

    escort.jpg

Deck: Alpine Cd (model ## I forget)

Front mids: 6 1/2" Infinity Kappa Components

Rear mids: 6 1/2" Infinity Kappa 2 ways.

    Subs: 2-JL Audio 12w3-D2's (version 1) 2 ohm mono @ amp.

Amp: JL Audio 500/5 5 channel.

    Goals:

The best possible sound Q while still being able to drown out douche-bags in traffic and scare old people.

So this was OFFICIALLY my first ever attempt at makin kick pods.

    Pods92-1.jpg

    Pods93-1.jpg

    Pods94-1.jpg

Sorry I didn'd get a shot of layin the base-matt but here it is w/ the rings positioned

    Pods1-1.jpg

    The owner.

    z.jpg

Here we tried 2 different approaches as an experiment: The one on the left is the passenger side pod and the front portion was formed using planter's foam (that really lightweight, crumbly green foam in the bottom of flower pots/vases) and it was cut to form w/ a razor blade. The one on the right is the driver side and it is wrapped in black stretchy material.

    Pods95-1.jpg

    Pods96-1.jpg

    Passenger side

    Pods3-1.jpg

    Gettin there

    Pods4-1.jpg

And the driver side gettin moulded in

    Pods5-1.jpg

    What a damn mess!

    Pods97-1.jpg

    car1-1.jpg

Tearin it all apart to run wires

    car4-1.jpg

    car5.jpg

    car6.jpg

Driver side after a layer or 2 of bondo and some rubbin with 200grit sandpaper

    Pods7-1.jpg

    and the pair

    Pods6-1.jpg

    Slave labor hehehe

    Pods98-1.jpg

Wrappin em up in some color matched stretchy carpet

    Pods99-1.jpg

I like to poly fill em for a lil extra "airspace" and thus more mid bass up front

    Pods8-1.jpg

Passenger side gettin mounted & wired

    Pods9-1.jpg

    Driver side all done

    Pods91-1.jpg

And here's the "amp rack" I built.

    Trunk5-1.jpg

The rack was actually more than you see in the pic, it had a top cover that attached via 2"DOWELS that slid into those 4 drilled 1/2" holes (2 on each side). It was essentially a frame that surrounded the face of the amp and concealed the wires. It sat about 1/4" higher than the face of the amp so it wouldn't get scratched if he put stuff in there on top, but the owner never put the top/cover in and thus, the amp got scuffed in a few places.

The box was custom built by a local shop and black vinyled. It was actually orignally built for his 85 bmw which had 3 amps (2 kenwoods & 1 mtx) and a different amp rack i built. I'm workin on scanning in them pix for ya guys. I didnt' get any pix of em, but had 2 Infinity Kappa Perfect 12's that he swapped in there in place of the JL's. The Sound Q was VERY good, But in the end he opted for a lil more output and good SQ w/ the JL subs.

I think that's it for this one.

    EDIT***1-14-06

Since I mentioned it already I guess I'll put his old BMW setup right here instead of makin a new thread.

    Ride: 1985 BMW 325E

Frint mids: Infinity Kappa 6 1/2" 2 ways

Rear mids: Polk EX 2 ways (5 1/4" I think)

    Subs: Same as above.

    Sub amp: 2-Kenwood 600watt 2 channels (part ##?)

    Mid amp: 1-MTX 300watt 4 channel (part ##)

    1F Streetwires cap.

Center Amp rack by me (black vinyled, Hinged, & held sub amps, wiring, and 1Fcap-see pics) and seperate rack for the 4 channel on driver side QTR panel of trunk in vinyl w/ removable trim ring to access connections (somewhat visible in pics)

  7. Them AutoZone guys WILL generally let you use the junk in the left overs/damaged return box we call a tool box if YOU'RE NOT AN ASS. :ranting2:

But don't hold your breath on any "specialty" tools being in that box, there is NO mandate on AZ having "STORE USE" tools as it's not a service shop like pep boys or midas.

At least 10 times/day some douche wants to know how much for this kind of work or to have such and such installed and I tell em it depends WHERE you take it but around here WE DONT WORK ON CARS. I just walk em over to the tool section "This here set is only $9.99, or I'm sure if you BOUGHT it like everybody else, it would work just fine, & it even comes w/ a warrenty. :clown2:

The parking lot is not a service station.

  8. Yes indeed lookin Good Steve. Man you make progress i can only dream of. Seems like things take forever ova here, and you're just burnin thru this one, nice job.

I like the imbeded magnet idea, I might steal that one on a amp rack cover i have comin up, and I need me one of those handy corner clamps those look to be the sex.

Keep them pix comin man you kno we're all dyin for the finished pics/vids. :w00t:

  9. Amen to that.

Although I HAVE got some "cool" stuff as presents before, it's never "hey honey I got you some FI or RE subs and a RF 4000watt amp...is that ok?"

*Side note*--->On the W7 comment, Most folks on this forum (myself INCLUDED) would cringe at the thought of spending "the going rate" of a W7 (new/used & on hookup or therwise) when BETTER stuff can be had. I think most folks here would agree W7's are nice ass woofers but really overrated/overpriced and if you really wanna build a good daily ground pounderor even a serious spl setup, W7's are not the first choice.

That having been said, I HAVE personnally taken a 2nd place trophy to a single 12w7 in a mazda station wagon (versus my 4-CVR 12's), so to each his own I guess.

  10. Well I was GONNA say check out PornStar's build on ROE but their forum is still down. I read all 35+ pages of that aswome thread KNOWING I had a test in the morning and it was worth it. Do you know who I'm talkin bout he was Team MaxxSonics too.

He only did an "unofficial" 160 on the new TL and a high 50's number. He started with 1-18" RE and then switched to 2 subs (same). Ask him, I think he rebuilt at least 10 times in an essentially wood/concrete filled mini truck with a bandbass design.

    Crazy....Crazy LOUD!

  11. Given the space/small cabin you're working with the Best option in my mind is the 8 CVX12'S.

In my exp SMALLER subs in bigger numbers do well/better in small cab's AND sound good-BIG subs in smaller numbers do OK or well but don't sound nearly as good in such a confined space, so as far as a daily setup I'd say go the 12's route and invest in an epicenter or epic 160 and they will perform/sound like 15's (I have an epic 160 and it is worth every penny).

If you have 15-20 cubes, I'd run the 12's w/ 2-2.5 cubes each ported, and give em around 600rms each. Also DEFINATELY do an electrical upgrade like a mofo cuz thats a lotta juice you're talkin bout w/ that. I'm sure you realize but I dint hear any elect. mods in ur post so I'll just thro it out there.

I have run kicker subs and still say [glow=red,2,300]for the $$[/glow] they are hard (not impossible) to beat. (Comp15's, comp vr 12's old version and new, solo's and heard cvx's in a friends ride) and they are solid performers at 75-80% rms power as a daily while still putting up decent numbers. I'd hate to roast 8 woofers...ouche$$$.

    ~2cents.

  12. Thank you sir.

It was a fun, learning exp., and I learned some audio stuff as well as some "dealer relations" type stuff.

    1st:$$ up front.

2nd: Don't let "friendship" overshadow the work and let someone take advantage of you.

3rd: If someone BRINGS THE PRODUCT to you, TEST it before you start building. None of this "you broke it/your fault it is defective" etc.

I do "walk throughs" now on every car no matter how new it is/who the owner is.

    Cover your asses fellas :red_bandana:

  13. Doesn't Steve kno quite a bit about air ridin? I mean the civic has had it before the theft and after (maybe check the rebuild thread on that for a general parts list). Maybe Hit up Mr. Meade directly if he's not too busy making Chickens House SLAM he could help ya on a shopping list? If I find anything on it I'll let ya kno too-All I can say is If any of the guys from the OLD Norcal customs wanna work on it- look into the stuff they've done already and ask the owner about thier reliability cuz I kno that shop went under a while back... and then there's a new/ or diff Norcal up on Auburn Blvd and I dont know if it's the same guys but I heard they have exp w/ air rides from a customer of mine. Purely hearsay tho.

  14. NAH NAH NAH MAN!

This is an old build I just got busy scannin in my pics for anybody who was interested after I got the "Nomination" for the system of the month from Steve, when the admins/mods get it up n runnin.

This is maybe a few years ago I built the Bronco so I have a router now, and a bunch of round over bits. I 'm actually sure i HAD one back then and used it I think i was just "cleaning up" the edges so it's be all smooth before I started spraying it up. I filled in the srew holes and sanded them (not the corners per se) then it got rhino linered then fleckstone sprayed, then I clear coated that for protection. The whole build was a learning process since I was still kinda noob to big builds and just honing my skills w/ the tools. Pretty sure I had JUST bought a table saw at that point and thats my workhorse now. Only thing I still need sre some jasper cutout jigs for doin circles. Till then I rock a decent circle out w/ my jigsaw.

    Jigsaw FTW.

Thnx fer checkin the pics, I'mma put MY car and the full builds on the 300zx and an RSX I did up once I finish scanning pics.

  15. Thnx Accord,

I only wish I had got some shots of the setup "Lit up" cuz It looked pretty nice at night. It was the "demo run" of what I did on my box-ALL white interior, glow in the dark paint inside, and little plexi "windows" on the sides to allow the neons to light the box up. The center divider was plexi too like in my box with a 1.5" strip painted white around the egdes to cover the mounting screws in it. Only thing I did different on my box was put one more neon inside the box and I left out those logos.

The owner loved "showin his setup" and he liked being able to drown out guys w/ little prefab boxes and smaller setups. He's not that into big bass setups but I convinced him his 10's were not cuttin it so we upgraded to some 12's and they sounded great in there.
