  1. I'm with ya on that one.

I try to make it a point to either "save up" my comments and combine em when possible or write a shitload of info for the sake of those takin the time to read...rather that just posting random BS to "get my posts up".

Thats pretty immature/lame/queer to just post like a mofo so you dont have "noob" status or w/e the reason is. If you want respect just learn/know you'r shiz and folks will look past your "status" and see that you know your shiz. If you don't know that much now, ACCEPT it, or change it. This place is a HUGE resource of info and there are some very skilled and knowledgable folks in here that would respond to any Q in a timely manner i'm sure. No need to stay in the dark.

"He who asks the Q..." ...that's all i'm sayin.

  2. OK I got most/all pics from ONE install in my PB so I'm makin a new thread in member builds for it and the others seperately. I think/guessin too many from each setup... I think they'll bleed together.

    So here's the story:

Cowerker has this bish (1989 Ford Bronco II 2dr) w/ some MTX 6000 series (I think) 10's and a lil mtx 2 chann pushin em. (see before pic)

    before.jpg

So Amidst my "audio adventures" and building this & that either he decided or he gave in to my naggin him about lettin me build him a better setup.

He bought most/all the parts (subs, mids, wire, etc) through ME and he had his own deck already.

He gave me NO $$ up front so i just had to buy the materials outta my pocket and "keep it under $500" and then he'd pay me back when it was done.

    Deck: Apine 7832

Front mids: Phoenix Gold 6 1/2" coax in front doors.

Rear mids: Phoenix Gold 6 1/2" coax in Rear pass. area.

Mid amp: Phoenix Gold QX300.4 4channel (60x4 rms)

    Sub amp: Soundstream Reference 500

Subs: 2-JL Audio 12W3D2's (version one)

Box: 1.35cft /sub Sealed, Indiv. chambers w/ plexi front, sides, and "JL" logo inserts (see pics), all white interior w/ glow paint, lit by Blue neon on sides of box (srry no pics)

And here we go-Startin on the box:

    Thinkin INSIDE the box...

    box994.jpg

    box995.jpg

After I Rhino lined it I used that Grey Fleckstone like Steve put inside the box for his 2-RE18's (this was BEFORE I ever met steve or saw his box so no hatin allowed)

    box996.jpg

You can see the cardboard "stop signs" taped in place over the front plexi to keep over spray off.

    box997.jpg

    box998.jpg

This was to level out the floor and make it more "uniform", also give me a color matched floorboard after I vinyled it. I used plumbers tape to secure it using the trim screws from the interior panel at the tailgate-kinda holda the floor board in place.

    box999.jpg

    box9991.jpg

You can see the other end w/ the same stop sign look in the trim panels.

I was still kinda LEARNING on the vinyl work so be nice I've gotten lots better since these pics.

This is one of the sexiest boxes I've done IMO. What you guys think?

I ended up not liking how it looked when you could see perfectly into/alll the way thru the box w/ the seats down so i sanded the plexi JL logos w/ 2000grit to give em a "frosty" look and light up better w/ the neons in.

If you saw already One amp went on each side, here's how they came about:

I think THIS is the most complete shot I took cuz the owner was gettin bitchy bout gettin his truck back.

    box99999991.jpg

I had to mash and finish it up quickly so no lighted pix (actually had to wait on the lights he was so impatient on gettin his ride back so i gave it to em w/ no lights)

AND....he kinda forgot to mention that the deck he had in had a DEAD sub out/RCA so i spent a lot of much needed time tryin to fig out why I had NO signal to the subs and THEN after bitching me out about it and threatening not to pay me...He said "Oh yea The sub rca is dead, but I'mma get it warrentied"...

    I was like  :ranting2: :ranting2:

No more "Pay me when it's done"...now it's $$ up front.

All in all it came out ok I think. I still like the box and it sounded GOOD.

Not CRAZY loud, But great SQ and loud enough to PWN folks in traffic...sum folks anyhoo.

Downside: He pretty much trashed it from what I heard. Took it out to go camping and left it in his garage where is cat attacked it and pissed on it something retarded. So it goes.

This was one of my first SERIOUS builds, before my car even. Lemme know what you guys think.

  3. Nice.

    Adios back seats tho :bye2:

I'd hope that massive box is bolted to the floor somehow for SAFETY SAKE.

I read an article a while back about a guy with a '96 Integra 2dr, like mine essentially. He had a sub setup like that in the back seat area. It wasn't bolted down and when he wrecked his car by running it head on into something (I forget what) the box flew forward with such force he was crushed. It said he would have otherwise survived based on airbag/crumple zone etc.

It was right around the time I was buildin my setup and I was still up in the air about puttin my subs in the back seat but that kinda helped me make up my mind.

Not tryin to poop on the party just sayin keep that bish bolted down for sure.

What were your ##'s and setup before for those of us out of the loop?

  4. I was with ya (kinda) until them low end Audiobahns popped up outta the rear deck.

X10 on the messed up $$ to knowledge ratio.

I was thinkin-maybe HE did the audio LAST and had just run outta $$ after RIDICULOUS screen in the trunk...then i saw THE PLATES and it all made sense. I can hear her telling the salesman at "Jack you up Car Audio and Rib shack"-"I want the ones with the flames on em!"

I have met 1 female that was "truly" into audio and she thought her 2-12w0's were slammin in her prelude.

  5. I just got my scanner rollin again and I was just wondering if I should post up "THE OTHER 8 MILLION" lexus pics, pics of My Integra (the build rather than the final shots) and the 300zx install, and a couple other setups I built?

The other option was maybe wait for the "system of the month" idea to get figg'd out...not sayin i have a chance at it but Steve Nominated me and I said I'd scann up the pics asap.

Anybody got and thoughts on this? Does it even matter? I dun wanna blow up the bandwidth if its not needed tho too.

  6. I dunno how much exposure you've had to this so i'll just throw as much at is as poss I guess and hope some of it helps:

    http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=36438

    http://www.audioinmotion.com/index.asp?Pag...on=Custom&ID=14

Those are all "surface mounted" setups..which is easier, but if you really wanna hear "wow" from crowds, you can embed the trim ring in the headrest, then tuck the vinyl/leather or w/e material behind/under THAT for a more seamless install, like this:

    tlsvideo3.jpg

My bro's shop here in Sacramento usually does em like this cuz they do upholstry all day and cutting open/re-sewing a headrest is no biggie for them, but if you're not feeling ambitious w/ it just the surface mount should be cool.

    Hope that helps.

  7. SUPER DOOPER X2 ON THE BS POSTAGE.

But I'm just replying as kinda a RANT since it's a dumb topic:

I don't care who/what/what/when and all that "I heard of a guy"..."so and so says..."..."everybody knows..." and any of that kind of BLANKET GENERALIZATION is crapolla.

There are WAY TOO MANY variables involved in building setups.Period.

You can make "a crappy woofer" sound awsome and "the best woofer" sound terrible if you know enough or lack enough knowledge. It's a like a sliding scale of good/bad in either direction and I have heard W7's sound terrible and swap meet subs whoopin ass and sounding great. And vice versa as you would expect.

We should all be in agreement that the knowledge behind the install is key in any setup be it SQ, SPL, or what have you.

The "what is better" question, in such broad terms as comparing 2 (or any) subs SHOULD BE BANNED IMO. It only opens up the forum to trash talking of brands/types of products that leaves someone butt hurt, and makes no progress.

As far as W7's being an SQ or SPL sub, if you ask JL they says it's an SQL sub as in the best of both worlds. Wheather THAT's true or not, like I said you can argue the point either way based on "what I heard/seen/read" forever to no avail. It's a stupid argument to get heated over since it's never ending (from my exp.).

    That said,

IMO it would be EASIER to get a setup with 4 Type R 12's louder than even a single 13W7 and I bet the SQ of that setup would be good enough for MOST folks interested/willing to run 4-12's. However, I have seen a single 12W7 pull decent #'s and maintain Above avg. SQ. So just build it right and the outcome should be LOUD SQ ;D

So, maybe that's all for this one..or maybe some one will try to Flame me up for acting like a know it all, but i just posted this cuz I have seen more posts like this recently about "what would fit", "how loud would this be" and "what would be louder" and those are all pretty silly Q's to ask IMO.

I could be wrong, if so Flame away.

  8. 4-15's in the EXT...18's in the Lade...and four more 15's in the house.

Chicken sounds like my kinda guy.

I pray I can "play" at that level some day.

I have 2 Kicker 12's in my house getting 120w rms each and THATs pretty loud for an HT setup...but my place is tiny...so it makes sense:I'm sure Chickens house is ganksta big thus so should be his HT setup.

BTW Steve-Did you design those ported boxes using BassBox pro or other software?

I only ask cuz I'm curious to try out the "HOME" environment setting on BBp and see if it works like it says it does to compensate for the acoustic gains/troubles of a larger area. I know boxes I've built for home audio/car cabins DON'T perform the same in each others domain.

  9. Good to hear!

Maybe sum day I'll throw down on some Fi subs and I was just curious about their SQ functionality.

I've always shyed away from "all out SPL" subs cuz that generally means SQ is out the window. From the website, which is my only exposure to them, Fi Audio seems like an SQL company and thats what i'm lookin for: loud + nice sounding.

    Thnx for the info.

  10. QUITE TRUE.

But you're preaching to the choir (sp?) on that one ;D :W:.

I'm 110% on board about the INSTALL being key-Steve's knowledge/awsome build in the Tahoe ALLOWS his "SPL ONLY" subs to still be competitive in SQ arenas.

My Q is just how do they do in SQ arenas in general or in OTHER setups than Steves...ASSUMING proper install of course/IDEAL circumstances?

  11. How IS the SQ on the BTLs?

    Is there ANY?

Its pretty hard to tell at 155+ in steve's vids and w/ cam mic, but is it at least fairly clean or just plain NASTY?

Personally I gotta have SOME SQ in my daily.

Any body done any sq comps/entries runnin btl subs?

I know Fi has SQ subs too but RE does too and despite having the baddest SPL series of RE's Steve did ok w/ em even in SQ.

I know Steve had decent sq w/ the RE's cuz I heard those, and he tied me for 3rd in SQ in Battle of the bass before... but that was with the RE's.

    ???
