Why is my coils smelling

somehow, i doubt you own or have used a DD-1. If for some reason i am wrong, and usually i am not, than you probably did not do it right. "ummm i left it at zero"...LOL what? Anyone that uses 0db tracks at the amplifier level shouldn't have any problem with overpowering their subwoofers if they are properly matched (in specs) to the amp they are hooked up to. Even though i don't believe you know what i am talking about, i just want to point that out in case somehow i am wrong. But i doubt it. Yes I do own a DD 1, and the gains are set on point. When said set it on zero I meant I set my amp using the -0dB. -

You physically cant just buy looking at it through a vent hole on the woofer. You can easily tell upon building the woofer or if your cutting it apart for a recone. At those 2 times you can easily count the layers of windings around the former. The 8layer coil will usually be a little bit thicker due to it having twice the layers of wire wrapped around it. But this is not always true because sometimes it maybe 8 layers with a thinner gauge material making the outside diameter pretty close to the 4 layer coil with the heavier gauge aluminum wrapped around it. Oookay! -

More than likely yes, because having a level 4 woofer with a level 3 coil put into is actually pointless. Im pretty sure the level 3 coil is weaker than the level 4 coil so down grading a level 4 with a level 3 coil is unheard of.Now putting a level 4 coil into a level 3 motor would possibly give you better power handling and handle a little more abuse if the cooling is up to the job on the level 3 motor, which Im sure it is. So if anything you have a level 3 woofer with a level 4 coil, maybe an added spider to make a tad stiffer suspension. Level 3m2 4 layer round wire coilLevel 4m2 8 layer flat wound coil l don't understand, that how you tell the difference between the coils? -

When I order it, my dealer suggested that go to a level 3 sub and do a level 4 on the motor. At first I was gonna do level 2 and was gonna upgade the sub later. so you have a level 4 motor with level 3 coils. what kind of DC dealer would do that? LOL its always supposed to be the opposite. level 3 motor with level 4 coils. Not putting my dealer down, cause they have help me out a bit. Maybe he told me that, but i have understand it wrong. So ya'll telling me that I have a level 3 with level 4 coil suppose to be? -

I think I left it at zero, so if I drop it a bit I'll be okay? -
