  1. I started competing in Sound Quality in 1997, but walked away from it all in 2006 after a nasty confrontation with a head judge that liked to make up his own rules. Selling my SQ car was easy to do at the time, but I have missed it everyday since. Now I have been following things on SMD for a while now and have been thinking about building my first SPL car. My platform is usable, it's a 1990 Honda Civic hatch. Since money is a big issue with the Financial Advisor (my wife), it looks like its gonna be a hard long road. Since I don't sleep well, I lay in bed plotting and planning all kinds of stuff. As aweful as it sounds I think I am fixing to build the worlds cheapest SPL install and hope for the best. I am just worried about just how cheap the system is gonna have to be. When Sound Quality was our thing, the Advisor was all for buiulding and doing the things that had to be done to make these cars happen. Now she has NO interest in anything 12volt(hehe). just wondering if any of you guys have had this kind of issue. I figure this is a better thread than "How will this sound?" haha
  2. Sounds like an awesome idea, but just a little too far north for me to make...good luck with it!
  3. I'm with you on this one, but you also have to take into account wire diameter and length to. we carry three different kits from three diff companies, all three have different ideas of what 4g actually is. I always followed the wire chart out of the USACi Rulebook. it hasn't failed me yet....
  4. I don't remember the 5000 having remote start. if it's the alarm i remember, they were the first that had sensor recognition from viper. if you had a tilt sensor, the alarm could be programmed so the remote would show you that the tilt set it off. PM me and i can see if i still have the info you need. send me a pick of the brain when you do, i'll help get the info
  5. The news just went out. I was nominated to Mobile Electronics Top 100 installers list for 2010! http://www.me-mag.com/ArticleReader.aspx?NewsId=6071
  6. newer alarm would be best choice. If you have a "responder ready" Viper like the 350 HV, or the 650 HV, DEI has a two way upgrade kit. I have a four year old Viper 350 on my work car. I added the two way remote upgrade kit so i could know when it was going off, and what trigger it was. it will tell me sensor, door, or hatch. Thats enough to keep me happy...for now.
  7. If I'm not mistaken, the biggest difference is the remote. The 5901 has a LCD remote and the 5902 is the new HD full color remote. We are still waiting for the 5902's, so I am not sure what else has changed. But everyone else is right. you will be happy either way.
