  1. Being 41 gets me a lot of "old man" jokes at work. There was a group of kids that used to come by our shop. They averaged the same age as my son, 21. That, compounded with a new grandbaby, really make me feel old. Lately i have been making some "old man" jokes of my own, threatening to quit my job and go to work at Wal-Mart to greet people at the door, hehe.
  2. Tread jack kinda.. How long can the ground on amp be from the battery? The ground needs to be as short as possible.
  3. besides the power issue you might have, there are other things to look at. do you have a good, solid ground on your amp? If the ground is too long, loose, or not anchored tight to bare metal, you can have this happen. How are your subs wired? If your OHM load is to low, you can have this problem Is your box built properly? If your port tuning is off, you can tear up your subs. definately get the big three done asap. Your 4g power wire isn't helping you much, if your factory ground wire at your battery is 8g. this is just the start
  4. She would kill me if she knew I posted them, but I found them when I was going through old files. Besides sanding and shaping, she helped her Mom and Aunt build some kick panels for our Intrepid She turned 16 on the 11th. I couldn't get her in a shop now to save her life!
  5. My brother has a couple of interesteing dogs. Boomer takes the cake though...and he sits where he wants too. Sorry for the blurry pic, my phone sux.
  6. I don't the the rings would work with my older column. A few years ago, I had converted the cruise control buttons in my dodge intrepid to be used as steering wheel controls. It was just easier to get a different wheel, have some welding work done to make it fit my car, then the rest was down hill from there.
  7. The peswix wouldn't work, since there would be no way to get the wiring through the column. I soldered the buttons from the wheel, to the pad on the remote control. It's a cheap Jensen Double Din, but gets the job done. I am trying to find time to get a vid up of it working...will post it as soon as i can!
  8. image shack is giving you some problems bro, I cant get that image to show up for anything... use photobucket. anyway, that steering wheel looks really cool. When it comes to 12 volt-anything I can handle it. But when it comes to computers, I am an Idiot! I had to get my 15 year old daughter to help me...haha
  9. This car started as my work car. I hope to get a build page together soon, but had to share this upgrade with SMD! I modified a steering wheel from a 2008 Honda Civic, so it would fit a 1990 Honda Civic. I also integrated all of the buttons on the wheel...

don't know if you are still interested, but there is a Sdc 2.5 12 for sale on Craigslist in Houston, texas for $75.00
  11. Thanks, I had to convince the financial advisor (my wife) that it was worth it again. I have plans, but need to wait on funds.
  12. ok, an update. I purchased a Kicker DX1000.1 and four Kenwood KFC-W3012 12" subs. I built an 8 CuFt, ported box for them and entered Pro Stock 0-600 at Fry's in Webster this last weekend for thier annual USACi event. I placed 3rd with just over 146db. Not too bad for a system that was designed and installe din less than a week. Not bad for an RMS rating at 280 watts.
  13. I came out of retirement just for this show it was a good one. It was the first show i have entered in 3 years, the first SPl event in something 5, or 6 years.
  14. While the larger shows would be nice, I am just interested in making local shows right now. If it all goes well, I'd certanly be upgrading and moving up. Its more to have the hobby again than anything else.
  15. a similar situation happened at USAC world finals about running our cars in the building. As it turns out, I couldn't start my car, but a five time world finalist could. Some judges just love abusing thier power.
  16. After telling my boss about Mechman on SMD, he has asked me to post a request for a quote. He has a 2006 Toyota Camry, 4 cyl. He is looking to see whats available. I looked at the Mechman and didn't find any for his year. Any help is appreciated
  17. I love anything to do with competing. we have a large following for USACi here, there is a DB Drag every once in a while, but not often. I actually hate going to shows now. I get there, then miss the atmosphere, miss building cars, etc. I hope I can pull something off so I at least drop in on a show every once in a while.
  18. Man! I wanted to pull this A$$hole through the little window in his trailer! I went to him respectfully with a question about an error on my judging sheet, he gave me attitude in return. If the car had seen its first show, or two, then I could see his point of view (when I finally got his response). But this car had seen 22 shows the year before. This was show six of that year. I just wanted to know why after sooo many judges scored us high in certain catagories, that he ignored those categories all together. He basically had his own rule he followed, which wasn't in the rulebook. In the heat of the moment, I swore I'd never go back, but now the people that are covering our area are more responsive to questions and have read the rulebook a few times I really miss the shows and wish I could get back in it again.
  19. Even though its my work car, its sounds great. I miss the shows and thought a little SPL system could be fun at some of the little shows we have here. Because of rules, one of our builds had to be finished by her, a friend, her sister, and our kids! Winning with a car that they basically built themselves was so much fun for me. My (then 9 year old) daughter gave some awesome bragging rights when people found out she was working with her mom on kicks and trunk panels!
  20. unfortunately the choices I have available are forced upon by the affordablity/availability formula. My company allows us to a discount on equipment, but my budget is virtually non-existant. I was considering a Kicker DX1000 (within my budget) and four low wattage 15's, or six low wattage 12's (undecided). The goal is to enjoy making some local spl events. But nothing is set in stone. I'd like to get my hands on a RE VLX3DE, but it's WAY out of my proce range.
