  1. Do you know where I'd even go to fix that? Im gonna try to get it tuned the way it is. I see what you mean, so how should I wire it up? Should I set it to like 4 ohms and wire it up to one channel so its at 2? I'm kinda confused. Either way arent I pushing to much power at the moment? This is what the site says. RMS Power @ 1 Ohm Stereo (12.5V) 400 x 2 RMS Power @ 2 Ohm Stereo (12.5V) 200 x 2 RMS Power @ 2 Ohm Mono (12.5V) 800 x 1 RMS Power @ 4 Ohm Mono (12.5V) 250 x 1 RMS Power @ 4 Ohm Stereo (12.5V) 100 x 2 How do I get the 200x2? but only at one channel?
  2. Hey guys, so I just bought a sub and amp today. The sub: Diamond audio d3. Dual voice coil 400watts rms 2ohm The amp: Interfire IFH-2120 Here a link to info on the amp- http://www.interfireaudio.com/amplifiers/IFH_series.html Currently the amp is wired to the sub and is bridged. The problem is here, the bass boost is broken and set all the way up. I'm wondering what is the best way to wire this up so I dont light anything on fire lol. The guy had a fried ground wire so I feel that might be bc of how its wired. He suggested I just wire it up to one channel instead of bridging it but wont that be WAY to little power? The site says bridging it makes 800rms at 2 ohms, this sub can only handle 400rms though so running it at 200rms off one channel at 2 ohms sounds safer. Can I still get the amp tuned with the bass boost set all the way up? Whats the best way to do this so nothing breaks? Thanks, this is my first audio setup so sorry for the noob questions.
  3. I'll check out the sale section. But I cant spend more than 100. I have more, but i cant spend more. It's a long story. Anyone on the wiring info? It's a single voice coil btw.
  4. okay guys. So Imma get the 3rd option on sunday. I called the guy, only thing wrong with the amp is that apparently the bass boost knob broke off at the max setting so its kinda stuck there lol. Can I counter this by the way I tune it and keeping the settings low from my head unit? Also, he said it's was one of the first 2 ohm stable amps or something. And the sub is a 4ohm 12 inch. He mentioned it would prob. run fine if I dont bridge it and just run it off one channel. What do you guys think? Whats the best way to wire this up? Here is info on the amp btw: http://www.interfireaudio.com/amplifiers/IFH_series.html
  5. So I'll shoot for option 3. I'll call him tomorrow. Just in case, what would your 2nd choice be? The sony?
  6. Well this is the max i can spend... or allowed to spend. Long story. But I'll save for a way better setup for my next car. For now this has to work.
  7. Hey guys, so I'm buying one of these setups sunday. But idk which one. Which one of these setups is basically "best" for the price and performance. I'm looking for cheap bass basically, amp/sub for less than 100$. 1) This setup I dont have a link to. It's a power acoustics 2 channel amp, 12 inch sony xplod in a ported box for 95$. 2) http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/pts/1808589858.html 3) http://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/ele/1803796070.html
  8. haha well thats basically what im looking for. Just to have some bass. Nothing fancy. Its an older beat up car, with clarion pieces. I feel bad spending money on it. btw guys this is the amp kit I plan to use. This will be enough right? Is the 50 amp fuse enough? I just dont want my car exploding. Also will it be okay to use the 16g speaker wire with it? I plan on only normal listening levels and the occasional higher volume. http://www.audiosavings.com/products/Complete-Car-Amplifier-Installation-kit/DB-LINK-8-GAUGE-CAR-AMPLIFIER-INSTALLATION-KIT-AMPRCA/XK8B1.aspx
  9. Thanks guys. Im still deciding but I will prob. get the sony since I can get it all for 90. I'm just looking for cheap bass at this point.
  10. Also to comment on the last post. I think I'll start looking at used stuff. On craigs list I found this: "Sony Xplode 12" and Power Acoustic Gothic Series 2 Channel 420 Watts" It is in a ported box and the amp is screwed to the box. All I'll need is the amp kit and I should be set. It all costs 125 or OBO so I'll offer 100$. I think I'll try this to just piece something together myself.
  11. haha I mean I dont plan to go to any shows or anything. lol. I drive a 94 toyota corolla. Only ppl who will listen are me and my friends who dont know jack about car audio. I'm honestly looking for cheap bass. Yeah I figured that even that 8g kit would be enough for my small setup. Like you said, boss isn't anything special but then again, I'm not looking for anything special. So if you know of something that will do okay, please suggest it. I'm basically looking for the cheapest reliable setup I can find.
  12. Hey guys, so I found this kit online which I was gonna get. http://www.audiosavings.com/products/Car-Subwoofer-Amplifier-Packages/RE-AUDIO-12-SUBWOOFERBOXSOUNDSTREAM-DI175.1-AMPKIT/SBREX12D4---DI175.1---XK8Z.aspx I mean it seems awesome but I was wondering if I can even go cheaper? I know this sounds bad but my mom is constantly telling me to not buy this stuff for my car and its getting to me. Do you guys think I can go cheaper? Maybe something like an 8g amp kit, amp for the sub, sealed box and an 8 or a 10inch sub. Do you think its possible to make a setup for less than 180 that is as good as this? I just dont want anything that is gonna make my system worse or catch the car on fire from overheating. lol I just wanna add decent bass to my music.
  13. I'll check best buy. From the site it seems it's 35$ for 20ft of 12g. I'm debating just ordering 6 feet or so from crutchfield or knukonceptz instead to save cash, but we'll see how much shipping is.
  14. Hey guys. So I've decided to just get the amp/sub combo above. It comes with 16g speaker wire but I feel that is too small for the sub. I was looking to run some 12g wiring instead. Do you guys know if scosche 12g is any good? It's at walmart, 20ft for 18$. I'd rather get it there than order off line. But I hear they are not always honest about the actual size. Has anyone used it before or would recommend it?
  15. can you elaborate a little more? B/c if it rly is a bad idea I'd get that package, it looks sick! (btw thanks you've been helpful with finding brands!) Does anyone else think I'm better of not amping the front? btw, I'm still new to brands, is that a good amp? Isn't a 2 ohm amp with a 4ohm sub bad?
  16. Sorry I dont think I mentioned it much. I have a clarion head unit and both front and rear speakers replaced with clarion pieces as well. Yeah the deck and front speakers are both upgraded. As for the 10, I dont need much bass, I just want some. I mean originally I was just gonna get an 8 inch sub. Once I get a better car I'll do way more to the system.
  17. The right wheels (white), a good ride height and some tints on top of a system you would put in one of ur cars would make that is250 one of the sickest things on earth.
  18. dang rly? Ok. I'm still gonna get just 5 ft for the sub since it'll be in the trunk which is where I assume the amp will go. But how is this for speaker wire? http://www.audiosavings.com/products/Car-Speaker-Wire/NEW-MONSTER-CABLE-16-GAUGE-50-FOOT-SPEAKER-WIRE-SPOOL/XLN16S-50.aspx
  19. cool thanks! this saves me some cash. Once I swap this setup over to my next car I'll be adding a pioneer head unit and probably some better coaxials in the front. So I'll upgrade wire then. So I know I can cut the 17ft wire in half and get 8.5 per side but idk if that is long enough. Should I use 10ft of the given wire in the kit for one speaker and buy another 16g 10ft wire for the other side? Or is it possible to just buy 3 feet of the stuff and add it onto the shorter side? I'm just worried matting two 16inch speaker wires together could be bad, is it? If not whats the best way to do it?
  20. So I'm getting a 4 channel amp and one 10inch sub. I'm gonna bridge 2 channels to run the sub and the last 2 channels go to the front speakers, one to each. I was told I need about 25ft of speaker wire for all this. I'm getting this DB kit: http://www.audiosavings.com/products/Amp-Installation-Kit/DB-LINK-4-GAUGE-4-CHANNEL-CAR-AMP-INSTALL-KIT-4-CH.-RCA/XK4B2.aspx When reading the product description I notice it comes with speaker wire. 17ft of 16g wire. I was gonna order 20ft of 14g wire for the doors and 5ft of 12g wire for the sub b4 I noticed the speaker wire with the kit. I have a small toyota corolla and wil running about 200-300 watts RMS total. With the DB kit is it okay to run 16g instead of 14g for the front doors? Either way I'll run 12g for the sub. I'd rather not order 14g when I don't need it. Thanks!
  21. Thanks! Yeah I guess I'll pass on the terminal and just screw it in. Yeah I have a basic idea of how to install it but just not comfortable enough yet and I don't rly have the tools. When I swap this setup into my next car which will be in a year or 2 I'll take it out myself and pay attention to how everything was wired up. Then possible attempt to install it with someone knowledgeable. Thanks again AKbass, super helpful info!
  22. O man I think that explains it! I feel my car has very little mid bass and thats prob. b/c I installed the front speakers wrong. lol ok. THANKS! I'm debating doing it myself or taking it to a shop. I'd be putting in a 10 inch sub also. For the install I've been quoted 160-180$. Is that the avg. price? I was told like 90$ originally but then I mentioned I wanted the other 2 channels wired to the front speakers and thats apparently add the rest on. btw, the guy at crutchfield said I should get a ground terminal. Is this needed? B/c it's like 12 bucks and then shipping. So if this isnt essential or like a really good safety measure I don't wanna get it. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_211GT14/StreetWires-GT14.html?search=grounding+terminals&ssi=0
