  1. It is actually completely different.
  2. We didn't talk about it in this thread but it was talked about in the other thread - it is a 3" coil. I am testing an interesting cooling method in this motor that seems to be working wonderfully. The coil is showing no signs of thermal stress at this point.
  3. Indeed... I have been reluctant to offer an ETA since getting this thing just right for such high power is going to be such a challenge! Honestly - I think it would hold up to our burps pretty much forever, I am pretty sure that playing music on it is what did it. I doubt this would be a problem with 3kw or less, but we have 6kw on tap on it - on music at that.
  4. Seems that voice coil former wraps simply cannot hold up to the Monster Sub... noticed it starting making a funny sound when I press on the cone after some HARD music demoing. Even the much better nomex wrap material is pulling off of the voice coil former. I may need to tool up something to get a larger glue joint to spread out the load and hold the coil at the top of the former... this is what testing is for! Our latest gluing methods are holding 100% - it is the voice coil wrap itself from the coil manufacturer that is failing. Of course, this also gives me the opportunity to build it up w/ the 12-layer and see if it is louder
  5. Yep - I am bringing it. Maybe we can get a few more tenths out of it before the show Hopefully it is consistent for us and makes a good 150+ showing, after we run it through the lanes I'd be glad to demo it.
  6. I'm pretty excited about it - so far I am pleased with the results, especially that I can reach this sort of score with one woofer and still play music effortlessly.
  7. I think it's pretty loud It is also a box very capable of playing music still - we beat on it pretty hard on music today with no issues at all. I also think it has more in it for a few reasons: 1) My voltage sucks due to ~60 amp alternator - HO alt on the way in a few weeks 2) Have not messed with box position at all yet - just centered it and went with it. Will trying moving it around soon. 3) Box is still single layer on all faces except the baffle, I doubled that last night 4) We are still testing the "daily" coil for this sub - I think the "SPL" coil will be louder
  8. Hopefully we can get it to be consistent and do that number at the show. The frequency changed from 53 hz to 50 Hz on us here... so not sure if that was temperature, the second baffle, or what.
  9. Oh... we did screw up a little bit on the scientific method here. We changed out the CD player to one with an iPod interface so it wouldn't skip so the extra baffle thickness is not the only variable we changed. So, don't assume adding a second baffle will gain you 6 tenths
  10. I added a second baffle to the top layer last night and... 150.1 dB today!
  11. Haha, there we have it - adequate usage of smiley faces.
  12. We sure will find out, huh ? It is not have any trouble whatsoever burping on the four 1500Ds.
  13. More smiley faces inserted FTW - then we know you are joking
  14. I'm not going for 12kw daily - for burps, yes, that is the goal - for daily, no way.
  15. There really is no hurry up about that *laughs* Needs more batteries, a HO alt, and a rack to mount the amps on.
  16. I made a second baffle for the top of the box tonight. We'll see if that gained tomorrow.
  17. PS: We did play with it on our test bench and took 5 videos as posted in the other thread one after the other with an *actual* clamped 2400-watts of power, so we already know it has some very good potential.
  18. I have not clamped the power - I doubt I am getting the full usage of these amps with this electrical setup. And yes, I am only burping it at full tilt so far. I do play it pretty loud on music, up until the CD player skips uncontrollably anyway *laughs* Will do more longer-term high power testing once that gets resolved with a new HU that accepts iPod input.
  19. They handle more power - if that is what you mean. The coil is absolutely massive on these and I have a special cooling setup in this motor.
  20. Yes sir! Nate @ Excessive Amperage is working up a 225-amp alternator with his new smaller pulley for me, that should help.
  21. Not sure yet. Have a few things I need to take care of before laying down the capital for a run of these motors. My hopeful estimate is January - if I had to pull a number out
  22. Found another reason for it to be dropping off - our spring loaded terminals were loose as heck. We tightened them up and put CA glue on the nuts so it won't happen again. Sub is holding up just fine - no signs of physical or thermal stress. Not sure when the terminals got loose - so the score may be higher. Once I install some brackets to keep the box still we will meter it again.
  23. 149.5 dB right off the bat @ 53 Hz. My alternator is pretty sad so it starting dropping after that. Had to pull the CD player out of the dash and hold it to register that
  24. New box for testing. About 3 cubes or so actual box volume - much higher tuning.
