  1. Possibly if I get a chance before I sell the AQ amp -- it is from the trade-in program.
  2. Before anyone starts a fight... I am just offering a comparison of parts counts, sizes, etc. I am not saying anything bad about the AQ product.
  3. Have had a few people ask for a comparison and I happened to get one in for trade -- so here it is. Not sure if this is factory or from the repair but the AQ also uses Fairchild output parts vs. IRF parts: * SAZ-3500D is a bit longer and wider * SAZ-3500D has 20 caps in PS section vs. 16 in the AQ * Another view of the power supplies in comparison * Output sections : Output inductors are equal, SAZ-3500D uses 16 outputs vs. 12 in the AQ * SAZ-3500D Transformers compared to a dollar bill * AQ-3500D Transformers compared to a dollar bill

  6. I took out my 16v system - but alot of power is planned.
  7. You should see what I plan to do once I get four D2s built up Don't worry... D2s will be available for everyone on the next production run.
  8. Yep, both are standard copper coils.
  9. When you get to 400-600% over rated power most subs don't last long *laughs* It would be like putting 6000 - 9000 on a Nightshade compared to rated.
  10. Part II at 2 ohms this time ! Way too much power but we did it anyway! Played 19 seconds before failure at 400-600% over rated power. Started at 3720 watts and dropped to 2472 right before failure (multiply the current by 120 volts). Don't try this at home.
  11. Here we go... it FINALLY processed on YouTube:
  12. So... you want to know how much the SA-12 will take thermally ? Video starts at 14.5 amps (1740 watts) power drops off to the 1200 - 1400 watt range after the first 10 seconds and continues to play for a total of about 35 seconds at this power level. Never going below DOUBLE rated power for the entire time on straight sine wave wall socket power @ 60 Hz. The woofer is NOT broken but I decided to stop as the current continued to drop indicating the coil was getting too hot. I plan to use this one in my Jeep so I didn't want it to go until it quit http://www.sundownaudio.com/misc/SA-12_Pro...et/CIMG2652.MOV Fun stuff This is a Dual-2 -- first sample that I built yesterday -- so nominal load was 4 ohms. I didn't use the Dual-4 (production) since it would be either 8 ohms (not much power) or 2 ohms (too much power).
  13. They made it in... pre-orders will start shipping today.
  14. SA-10 is great... need new cone for SA-15 before proceeding. Should have cone sample on the way soon. Both the SA-10 and SA-15 will come standard with two performance upgrades from the current SA-12 (the next run will include these standard). 1) Custom tooled triple joint strengthening ring. The only failures to date under any condition of the SA-12 have been of this joint under *extreme* abuse -- in my case 1200-1800 watt burps in tested. 2) 12 drilled basket holes for cooling rather than four. After extensive testing I found that 12 holes are more beneficial than either 4 holes or a "wide open" setup like the basket spacers on Nightshade 18s and/or the 12-spoke frame. The air velocity stays high but allows more flow than the original four holes. I can add both of these during a re-cone
  15. MSRP ~$199 or so as the SA-12 is $249 MSRP. I will pre-sale them for ~100 shipped more than likely, though!
  16. Excursion will be limited by the basket and spider both of which have less clearance than the 12" SA woofer... but excursion will still be quite substantial.
  17. We sat an 8" frame on an SA-12 motor at the shop and I knew what had to be done This motor is slightly smaller, but not much!
  18. Yes. Whenever someone asked that about the E8 I had to say "no" -- but I think this will be competition for the 1508
  19. I haven't received any 100.4s in trade yet.
  20. That is how I roll with product testing... has to handle at least 2x rated power on burps.
  21. Haha, if you are able to fit these in a door I'd love to see it... Motor will be over 3" deep all on it's own!
  22. Sent in my design specs to the factory today for an SA-8 driver. Will move down to a 2" coil, though, so we can fit the proper spider on the frame. Coil will be 33% longer than the E8 coil and will feature all of the SA-12 cooling features. Frame will be 12-spoke rather than 4-spoke as it works better in the 8" size. May have pics in a few weeks Motor dimensions are similar to SA-12 except for it is narrower to more easily fit into an 8" woofer cut-out. Power rating 400-500 watts RMS. As for the X8... I may start from scratch on it due to the difficulties of using a 2.5" coil on an 8" driver.
