This is a post for a friend.
He wants a 2000-2500w amp (1 ohm) for sub duty and wants to spend as little as possible. Assuming he already has electrical and subs to take that power - what are his options?
-
I can't seem to find a 320kbps version of that song(or any version for that matter). Could someone here help a brother out?
-
I totally fell for that haha. Nice troll
-
I feel like I had a brain fart. I kept on wondering what I was doing wrong / checking the sub, etc... It turns out that my ancient voltmeter has a loose connection on the ohms terminal.
I used my friends multimeter to debug and it reads the resistance just fine. Its exactly 4.0 ohms
-
I should add that I don't have a clamp. If I hook up my DMM right to one of the coils, it measures zero and changes if I tap the sub.
And let me clarify my box rise question: I want to wire the sub to 2 ohms, but my amp is rated for 4 ohms and I was wondering if I could safely have it wired. If I had a clamp, then it wouldn't have a problem - but I don't.
-
I have a DVC power acoustik mofo. Since it's a power acoustik... I don't really trust their specs.
How can I measure the resistance of a coil?
And a side question: what is typical box rise?
-
i dont know hot to port to a certain frequency, how do i do that?
Pay someone else to deal with that and (possibly) build it too
-
spend 2k on a car? no offense man but your gonna need alot more than that to pay for if your wanting a truck/SUV that will hold what you want thats reliable IMO
No offense taken. But it's a teenager's budget =/ and people's first cars are rarely perfect. I could go more if it was really worth it, but I don't want to.

The 90's Tahoes should be pretty cheap if you can find one without a lot of miles I'd do that, or maybe an expedition
Both are within price range. What would you do?
For sure a Tahoe if you can find a nice one with a lowish amount of miles on it. A lot more space and I'm pretty sure you can fit more Alts in the future
Years? I would like to avoid spending more than about 2k if possible as a loose budget

I was there haha him and his two friends were more excited than a girl at prom bahahaha I hadnt heard a 150 til two days prior ( same truck) and he gets loud on 4 15s
Haha YUP
Ryan's port could swallow a man. That thing is no joke!

When you say more space: you mean more space then an expedition?

extended cab trucks get loud for next to nothing. A pair of 15s off 3000 RMS and a little electrical work will definitely make you happy. If you get an SUV your money will be paying for gas vs playing with sound systems.
My only caveat is that it needs to sit at least 4 with the system in it. Blowthrough possibly?
What would you recommend?

Hahaha. Mine was me sitting in anticipation, then a look of utter suprise, then a HUGE smile, then me zoning out in pure bliss
You didn't climax did you?
I'd rather not answer

Can they hold 3-4 alts? And what years?

Here is Rebel's first time.

The only way I can describe it is a full body experience. I even changed my mind on what car to get because of it. I used to want a small nimble car, now I want an suv with space for alternators and extra batteries and such.
I until then, the loudest thing I heard was about 130 db - so it was a HUGE suprise for me!
Heck, does anyone know of a good cheap spacy car that has room for 4 15s or so?
Explorer.

rebels was actually a hammer to the back of his head. You just can't see the hammer!
Hahaha. One of my friends ended up bailing out. I was giddy with excitement!
I ended up sticking my head in the port after a couple songs

Could I get the songs too?

No.
Big difference from clipped and distorted.
Distortion in the track wont hurt anything.
But if the. Distortion is drivin into clipping then yes.
No?
I always thought that distortion was just as bad,kuz all you would be doing is making that distortion louder through the amp.
Not tryn to say your wrong.I know you know what your talking about.I just want to get my facts straight
As I understand it: clipping and the resultant sawing off of the sine wave is what kills the driver.
Distortion can be anything that varies from a perfect sine wave.
Clipping is always distortion, but distortion is not always clipping. The big thing to look out for is clipping in bass boosted songs. If there is a bit of distortion from a guitar or something - I wouldn't worry about it. Just make sure that what you are hearing isn't clipping and you should be fine.

So building a clipping indicator and using the variable resistance in a ceramic heater to test an amplifier is achieving nothing? I think it'd teach someone who is interested in the field alot. KUDOS to people interested in electrical engineering, the world is a better place because of you
You are not building nothing, you are cutting a plug off a heater and hooking it up to a $4 potentiometer from radio shack and hooking it up to your speaker outputs.
And yes, you are achieving nothing but getting test results reputable manufactures already list at multiple voltages and impedance's. However since you dont have the needed tools to test the acutal output of an amplifier all your going to do is make a heater hot, likes intended purpose.
facepalm......
You certainly know how to kill a man's spirit don't you...

maybe he just wants to make something to play with just to see if he can? i know we've all taken apart a remote or a vcr or something at some point just for the hell of it. he did say he's got an extra day to occupy his time.
YES!
I like projects, and have time to do one. So why not?
Folks: I'm not looking for a crash course about what brands to buy and quality and anything else. I'm just looking to have some fun and learn about this stuff.
Best 'cheap' amp?
