so im not buying the type x's.... i found my old car, still intact, it got towed to another part of D.C..... fucking towing companies.... so ya, the Type Rs are back... now for a new box

i cna vouch for the Type Rs, they wang hardcore. im gonna have to build a custom box for the bitches here soon, there not like this whole prefab shit. im running 2 type R twelves off of 2 kenwood KAX 9102D [about 850-900WRMS] and then wang. ive vibrated the screws that hold my rearview mirror on all the way out, my spoiler come loose, my dash is vibrating apart, my sunroof seals are slowly blowing out. and ive only had them in since.... saturday? if you want something to wang, and still sound good, DEFINATLY go type Rs, if you want straight up sq, go Type X.

the NON bose speakers brackets are 4x6, i have a pair of 4x6's from my old car, and the BOSE speaker pods are most definatly NOT 4x6, there about 3" round. and i have bose... which SUCKS.

i was thinking about ditching the pod and doing a custom 6.5" mount, and then doing tweets on the base of the A pillar, where the manual mirror adjustment would go... if i didnt have automatic mirrors

look @ the amps... im rolling 2 deep..... and those kenwoods are 1 ohm stable, they just done mention it. [yes ive run them @ 1 ohm] although the box rise could have keep the impedence up above 2ohms... so iunno... but ive run them @ 1 ohm, and im running 2 amps.

Well ive started getting my new cars system installed. this ride is temporary so im not going all out, but i figured id go ahead and make a thread and see if anyone has any POSITIVE criticism or comments. The ride: 1990 Nissan Maxima SE 3.0L 5spd Stock motor/drivetrain/wheels/etc. The Head unit: Kenwood ..... well i can't remember the model number... will update after work The Fronts: NONE - the front bose speakers are blown, and are 3" w/ a triangle mounting pattern, i can't find shit to replace them. so im looking into custom fabbing a mounting bracket for 6.5" components and mounting the tweets @ the base of the A pillar. The Rears: Kenwood 6x9's - Rear fill... nothing amazing just there for the people in the back seat The Subs: 2 Alpine Type R 12" DVC 4 ohm each sub wired in parallel for ~ 2ohm final resistance im sure you all know about these, so no need to elaborate The Amps: 2 Kenwood KAC-9102D rated for 850WRMS @ 2 ohms got each for about 140$ via a hook up @ bestbuy, and they sound pretty good, especially for the amount i paid for them. Install notes: just a couple things that are unique or caused me a headache during my installs. 1)The previous owner cut the stock harness, thus no wiring harness for me. BUT he did use a kenwood headunit, so mine plugged right in. 2)swapped the new head unit it. wouldn't turn on. spent 15 minutes playing with wires, realized the antenna was unplugged.... plugged it in... worked fine. it seems like it grounds out through the antenna instead of the chassis... weird. 3)had to drill a hole into the fire wall... PITA to get 4 gauge wire through, its gonna be even worse to get 2 or 0 through when i upgrade. 4)Car came with a Stock bose system, thus i had to do a decent amount of cut and splice all over the place to get standard connections and what not to work. ok well theres where am at right now. I still have the fronts to figure out, and i need to get an O-scope on my amps to finish tuning them, there tuned conservatively for now, since the rated RMS on the Type Rs is only 500WRMS [although ive HEARD about people running a lot more daily, but i haven't had that confirmed]. This is my Daily Driver, so im not going nuts on it, but i do like to set some alarms off every now and then. any comments/critiques/advice is more then welcome, and thanks for reading that long ass post.

well my supra has a 80A stocker, and it came with leather power seats, which are now replaced with cloth manual seats. so theres some extra power. but the 135A should hold 2KW RMS, so ill be able to get a KW to each of the type Rs... for now.... ill grab a 200 in the spring and throw a second 2KW amp in and run the full 4KWRMS... but thats gonna cost some money.

2 10" Alpine Type Xs will be mine right after Xmas... now how do i power them? ill be picking up a 135A alternator here in early january.... im thinking 2 hifonics BXI2006Ds? id LIKE to keep it under like 500$... but i do need a total of 4KWRMS... wow.... im gonna need a bigger alternator arent i?

the Type Rs got loud off of about 500W[amp was 850WRMS, but the alt and what not were on there way out] and they hit 120DBs in a shitty box... i JUST finished the 4.5CUFT[after displacemnt] box, tuned to 37HZ. swapped them into it last friday, whent to work saturday. stolen, the entire car.. so... YA... new subs are in order, along with lo jack and a viper alarm. im gonna get the type Xs it looks like, no i just need to make sure its for 2, so i can get the materials for a box, if its only 1 im still getting it, cuz its still a great deal... but i need to know so i can make my home depot run. thanks for the help, now on to the Tline thread to see about a Tline box for them.

hurm... so the TYpe Rs are louder..? that kinda... odd.... but if the dude is selling both for 250 im jumping on that shit, i can always resell them and get some Type Rs... or a bigger alt + bats and give em 2KW a piece....

so.... they sound better and with enough power they should be louder... i know the Type R are underrated, i was running a KiloWatt to each of them... how much will the Type X's take?

a guy i know is selling a pair of 10's for 250$... well i believe its a pair, im waiting for him to call me back. im going to have him play them b4 i buy them. but i had 2 12" Type R's[stolen along with my car last week], how will the 10" Type Xs stand up? i know they take more power, but there smaller... from what ive heard they should walk all over the R's if given the right amount of power. so i want yalls opinions, i can get 2 Type R 12"s for 230$ new, but i think as long as the Xs havent been abused to much that would be the better deal, but you all are the experts, so gimme your opinions. i really liked them, even in the shitty prefab box they wanged hardcore, and for 115$ a piece there pretty freaking hard to beat. im going to look into these Tline boxes some more... i may end up with a single 15" Type R. but definalty going with the Type Rs now the only question is what HU to get... any recomendations... retail price 3-400$, i get them about 50% off for most HUS[again, anything Circuit city or bestbuy carries i get hook ups on

im prolly gonna go with the bigger monoblocks, and 2 type rs, since my tline box is already in the works... but i still need help... and input on the headunit. i can get anything @ best buy or circuit city on discount through friends, so is prefer to buy from there

pretty much, i'm pretty much getting the dual alpine type R's i can get them for about 115$ a piece. im looking @ 2 KAC 9152Ds. one for each sub. unless you all have any recommendations of a Solid 2KW @ 1 ohm amp, or 2 solid 1KW @ 2ohm amps, for under say... 450$ total. and im going to do some more research on Tline/quarter wave boxes... cuz i just read the discussion on here and its very intriguing.

the entire car was stolen, whent to work for 3 hours on saturday, came back. theres a fuckign buick century parked wehre i was. the system is going in a '87 Toyota Supra... if this SOB will answer his phone so i can come pick up the car. if that falls t hrough its going in a 1990 Nissan 240SX. yellow top is a must have, and if i get the supra im getting a MR2 Turbo alt [~130A]. im was jsut stated what i did w/ a crappy prefab box, i didnt get a chance to meter it since the new ported box[4.7CUFT aftr displacemtn, tuned to 36HZ, 45 SQin of port] i know it was WAY louder, it vibrated everything in the fucking car. but ya, thanks for the input, i can get a good price on kenwood and alpine products. i figured id upgrade to the 9152Ds, since theres a little bit beefier. any ideas on a nice sounding headunit, i know everything plays MP3s/WMAs now i days. jsut wondering what you all have had experience with and what you all like and why. thanks for the help... this is gonan be a PITA to rebuild.

my car was stolen today... so i need to see how much it would cost to build a new system that is close to as strong as my old one. specs on the shit that got stolen: HU:older model of:KDC-MP332 front+rears:doesnt matter, they wouldnt fit the car im getting anyways subs: dual 12" Alpine Type R's[i get them for around 130$ a piece] amps:Dual kenwood KAC-9102D [850WRMS @ 2ohms 190$ a piece] box:custom my biggest thing is the subs/amps i was pushing 120DBs about 3 weeks ago @ a local shops competition, dont know what mic, i think it was an older TL. but i was wondering/hoping yall could suggest something that would come close to 120DBs for less then the combined price of the subs+amps [~700] i can custom build a ported box, im looking into Tline boxes but i think they might be beyond my skill level... the construction seems pretty complex. but ya... so let me know what yall think

to flare the ports, could you use a rotory tool to smooth the wood? and im going to do a slot port, because i find it easier to work with. and i also find it easier to build with the slots. and on the amp, i got my old one benchmarkes about 4 months ago and it was stitting @ 890WRMS. granted thats on a perfect 14.4v charging system, but ya. and 2.6, im guessing after displacement

This is going to be my second attempt @ a custom enclosure. i did one for a 15" orion XTR, was pretty loud, had some serious low end balls compared to my more recent systems. The subs are 2 12" Alpine Type Rs, powered by a Kenwood 9102D [850WRMS] im thinking about 2.5CUFT a piece, and around 80SQin of port, tuned to 28hz or 32 hz. this is a daily driver, but i want it to be as loud on music as i can get it. its going in a 1990 240SX hatch [s13] i am thinking about doing a CRX style box, subs up ports back etc. but i was wondering if this will give me a noticable increase in SPL. also, ive read a couple places about flare square/rectangle ports. does this help with SPL any? thanks in advance for the help!!!
