im planning on going to the july 12th event in charlottesville, see what this 12" type r does on the mic. MECA does alot more stuff in va then any of the other series ive seen
-
Im heading to my first SPL comp in july, its a MECA competition and ive got a couple ?'s in regards to the rules, if anyone could help clears these up for me i would be very greatful. the first is on classing, i am planning on competing in Amateur street, with 1 12" Type R, so from what im seeing in the rulebook i would be in the AS550-1000 class with a 60A inline fuse and a 12" woofer. {60x10}+113}= 713 is this correct or did i miss something? also i read somewhere that the inline fuse has to be within 18" of the AMP, not battery, but i cant seem to find anything about that in the rulebook, could anyone confirm this. also any tips for competing would be much apreciated, ive wanted to compete for years but never had the time/money, so im really stoked about finally getting into the competition side.

Enclosure Build For Alpine Type R 12" | 2005 Grand Prix
Luda replied to Luda's topic in Subwoofers / Enclosures
Box is done, although i failed miserably on the mounting hole, so i need to redo that, but once thats done ill be able to see how the box sounds. quick test to make sure my sub is still in working shape [its been sitting for over a year] sounded pretty damn good down low but i dont want to push it without being properly sealed. -

its only getting 200W, im playing around with larger enclosures and messing with some more advanced build techniques... but ya it is a bit large -
Enclosure Build For Alpine Type R 12" | 2005 Grand Prix
Luda replied to Luda's topic in Subwoofers / Enclosures
box is about 1/2 complete, stopped work after fucking up the port mounting [somehow got the front 7" wide and the back 6", said screw it and called it a night]. the box is roughly 3.2cuft after displacement, tuned to 35hz. its going to be facing the back seats, sub and port, port being on the left side [40% split] since i ride with that side folded down. i am researching how to properly seal off the trunk, im thinking some sort of fiberglass shell, but i need more research. -

i prefer square ports, theres just something that irks me about circular ports. so that enclosure is to big then? i know the spec sheet says 1.7 but that seems kinda small, although my previous builds were 15's so i guess that could be why it seems small to me. and the subwoofer isnt installed in anything at the moment, well i have it in a .75cuft sealed enclosure tapping into my 5.1 surround sound in my computer room but its not installed in the car. -

i am curious as to how to completly seal the trunk off from the cab, obviously making the face of the box the entire width/height of the opening, but would i need to go as far as throw weather stripping along the edge, or otherwise seal the edges? and do you think its TO big? -
I Forgot about this section, just wanted to link to the original thread incase anyone who has any input misses it in the other section: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...mp;#entry665138

Enclosure Build For Alpine Type R 12" | 2005 Grand Prix
Luda replied to Luda's topic in Subwoofers / Enclosures
it is fairly big but its giving me roughly 3db at the tuning freq[according to winISD], and ive got the space to do it -
Im going to building an enclosure for my 12" type R to go in my 05 Grand Prix this upcoming week and ive got a couple questions. The Enclosure is going to be roughly 5.5CUft with about 150SQin of port, tuned to 32hz. i have been out of the audio game for about 2 years, and this design is from about 2 years ago before the motor fell out of my maxima [last car i did subs in] so any input on how to improve it would be very much welcomed. Now i have always installed my ported enclosures against the back seats, sub/port facing the rear of the vehicle. But my grand prix has 40/60 split folding rear seats, i through a pair of shitty duals in that a buddy of mine had laying around to see if folding the seats down did anything to the sound. and it makes a noticable differnce in perceived volume [which i figured since the subs are moving the the air in the cab versus being sealed off in the trunk] after confirming this i got to thinking. i have been leaving the small [40%] part of the seats folded down when driving around, this got me thinking, what if i made the port the size of the seat so when its folded down all the air from the port is being blown directly into the cab. this got my gears drinding away and i came up with a couple more ideas. so let me know what you think. Idea 1: Keep the above specs and do a traditional install. Idea 2: Keep the above specs, but build the box with the sub facing the rear of the vehicle, and the port facing the back seats, so when i fold the 40% side down its blowing directly into the cab. Idea 3: Same as idea 2, but enlarge the port to match to size of the 40% side of the back seat. idea 4: use above specs, and have the sub behind the 60% side of the seat and the port behind the 40% idea 5: same as idea 4, but again enlarging the port to the same size as the 40% side of the back seat. with the sub facing one way and the port the other i am worried there might be some cancelation since your hearing the front and back wave at differnt times, but ive never seen any install like that so i dont know if its a valid concern or not. any other criticism is very much welcome, as i said ive been out of the game so im a bit rusty on all this stuff. oh and trunk space isnt a big concern, the trunk is pretty massive in my car. ****Edit**** the port will be a square port, fyi

im already running 2 12"s in my max, granted there not BTLs, but i want to step it up a little bit with the new whip, i will be getting some rough measurements tonight so i will have a better idea of where i stand.
-
i havent taken EXACT measurements, but shoudl be somewhere in the range of 7-10CUFT of usable room, my biggest issue is still being able to store the T-Tops in car. im thinking about making 2 recesses in the box and padding them so that the glass doesnt vibrate against anything hard, that or fabbing a storage sleeve and putting them behind the seats, if i dont mount my amps there.
-
ya i was designing a box and i think i might have to drop down to two 15"s or 1 18" due to space limitations.... ive already decided the box will be the entire hatch, and im figuring out where to put the T tops..... and all the amps.... fun processs
-
but the BTLs will take more power, and i can afford them....
-
the meade has spoken, i will be attempting to cram 2 18" fully loaded BTLs in the hatch of a first gen 300zx... this is gonna be fun for those of you that have experience with the BTLs, whats the minimum volume you would run for SQL? i do want it to be musical..... but im leaning more towards SPL, the front 8 speakers will take care of most of the music.
-
I am planning out the system for my next car, along with the other mods. I am getting Fi BTLs, but ive been ctaching alot of flak for wanting 18s, im getting alot of people telling me there a waste of dough. so my question is, for obscene daily SPL would 2 18"s BTLs running off of 2 PA A300DB be better then 2 12" BTLs on the same amp, given the ideal enclosure. i know there are alot of variables, and the enclosure cna modify things for better or for worse, but just in theory, which would perform better. thanks!

This will only be my second custom enclosure. it will be for 2 12" Alpine Type Rs. the ride is a 1990 Nissan Maxima SE i will be figuring out the dimensions and volume this weekend. but i just wanted to see if anyone had any comments/tips/or ideas. im sure some people on here have run these subs in custom enclosure, just looking for some info that cant be found through manufactures sites and what not. This is a daily driver, so i would like it to be atleast semi musical, but im leaning more towards SPL. im thinking about tuning between 32-25 hz. my last enclosure was for a 15" Orion and was tuned to 32hz and sounded almost as loud as the Type Rs in the shitty prefab box there in now, and it only had 200WRMS, then Rs have 1700WRMS. the amps have infrasonic filtering, which is set to 25hz, i might drop it to 15 with the custom box, the current box is tuned high, and id rather not blow my subs cuz the notes are to far below the tuning freq. so ya, ill keep this up 2 date, and if you have any input let me know.
