  1. Well, yesturday my buddy called me at 7am from his work, his boss owns a salvage yard in town by me. Well I was talking to my friend, and he said that his boss wanted a stereo hooked up. So I go out to the yard, wait for a while for his boss to get back into town because he went on a bike ride to get some sort of distro block for his hydrolic steering.

So after waiting about 45 minutes I heard his Harley pull up, and says that he has a stereo to be put in and he liked how my car sounded. So Im thinking ok cool a basic install in his truck.... Wow was I wrong. Its on a boat. So Im thinking ok this will be fun.

He got some JENSEN marine speakers from a buddy that works for mercury racing last summer to replace the fried ones in the wing thingy, and had another pair for under the rear bench seat.

Then he had a 10 inch sony marine sub that is 200watts rms, 800 watts peak 6 ohm svc. I had to dremil out some fiber glass on the side of a boat that use to be a small cubby hole which I made a tad bigger.

I also had to make two cut outs for the 6.5s under the rear bench seat, and then had two make two more cutouts for some 6.5 polk momo components in the cabin, and some holes for the tweeders higher up by the cabin seats.

Not to mention fishing wires through a fiberglass hull boat with some welding cable was a lot of fun too.

So right now I got his polk comps, and jensen 6.5s under the seat hooked up to some no name 4 channel amp that is ratted at 40 by 4 rms, and his sub wired to a sony xplode 2 channel amp that is bridged. The sony amp says its 220 watts (but we all know how sony rates their amps) and considering its only seeing a 6 ohm load the sub is lucky to be seeing 120 watts rms...

As of right now its all hooked up, but I didnt finish it up completly. The amps are not mounted yet and either is the the head unit, but I cranked her up just for a test run, and I was pretty amazed by how loud and clean it was for what I was giving too work with. Tomorrow I have to run out to the salvage yard to pick up some cash, because when I was talking too him before I left today I convinced him into running some better amps.

I told him that they make 5 channel amps and he is kind of wanting me to find him a amp, becuase his sub could take some more power since its not even getting no where close to its rms power. I also tried to explain the ohms to him and said that he could safely add another 10 inch sony marine speaker and run the amp at 3 ohms instead of 6 ohms which would produce more power out of the new amp, and give him more lower end punch. So now he is also debating that, and looking for some better 6.5 marine speakers besides jensen for his wing, and below the rear seat in the back ( he kind of wanted to replace the polk momos in the cabin with marine speakers too, but I told him that it shouldnt matter since they are in the boats cabin where they wont see the same harsh elements as the outside speakers). He currently has 2 optima blue tops, and a ac delco marine battery in his boat, Im trying to also get him to replace the ac delco battery with a yellow top for the stereo.

So far tuesday I had 3 hours of work invested into his boat and made $150.

Today/wed evening I have a little over 4 hours invested and made $200.

And Im going back tomorrow to wire up a new amp which I still have to go out and buy, and clean everything up. But Im sure Ill be paid at least another $100 for sure, but Im not counting my money before I get it.

Not to mention FREE beer and boose while working too :)

Here are some pics, I took them from my phone Some turned out better then others. I totally forgot about taking pictures yesturday but all I did was cut holes. Tomorrow when I go back out their Im going to bring my digital camera and take some better pics.

  2. whats the point of the 1000w rating is its rms is like 200?

They are, but even still 200 watts rms for a tweeter is nuts. And from what I hear (by a world finals winner) is that they can take every drop of power and play loud and clear. I know that peak is nothing to judge by, but when your talking about 1000 watts peak too a tweeter thats pretty nuts...

Yellow coned dd's I was looking at them long throws for a while now too, since im a dd fanboy myself, and the new designed dd's are sick, how do yours sound?

Im still kind of trying to figure out on what I want to spend and am kind of stuck between dd, focal, and morel for my mids and highs. But was almost thinking about going old school and getting some image dynamic horns

  3. So I was getting sick of the stock volt gauge in my insturment cluster. It seemed to be not to accurate and only changed every few seconds.

So I had two Rockford fosgate 1 fared digital top capacitors that where in the car when I got it, and decided too take the digital top off one of them.

Here are some pics, nothing too great but it gives me the actual readout and its fun to watch sometimes. I still got to go back and clean up some of the wires and make sure everything will be secure.

  4. ok... i had too much.. lets leave it at that. at least a 12 pack of coors light. i dont even know how many shots (and fat chicks i danced with), and about 6 sex on the monkeys back which is a specialty drink we made that is mixed with about 6 different types of alchole. . lol It twas a good night..

Oh and putting on the securtiy shirt while drunk as h3ll and getting in a few fights in front of cops after the club closes = pricelesss.

PS: i think i sprained my ankel altho it dont seem to hurt much at the momenty. lol

  5. All you can do in bios for video is either your agp or your pci x port speed, in your case it is the agp. It really doesnt do much, I tried messing with my port speeds in bios and I didnt see a worth while gain in 3dmark programs.

Your memory clock is pretty high. I have an evga 7900gt co superclocked (which is overclocked by evga from the factory) that I overclocked farther.

For my core clock I am only running 575mhx.

For my memory clock im only running 850, which is 1700mhz (you got to remember its doubled for memory), so your video card memory is running over 2200 mhz....... Which is pretty fast. I forget which card you have, but Im susprised it even loads at them speeds lol

Id try backing your memory overclock down a bit on your card. At least try 900mhz or maybe a tad bit lower.

Just remember a good/stable overclock sometimes takes time, and it is addicting like a crackhead to crack. once you start, you just want more and more

  6. It has nothing to do with the dmm.

I have a $400+ bluepoint dmm that I ordered from our local snapon dealer, and it does the samething.

Your car battery is only 12 volt, but batterys will usally read between 12.4 volts and 12.8 with the car turned off and no draw on the electrical system.

When your vehicle is on, your alt is charging your battery, most stock alt's charge between 13.8 and 14.6 volts (depending on make and model of your car).

Your alt will almost never put out a constant charge that will stay the same because your vehicle will have misc draws, such as radiator fans, heat, ac, fuel pump, lights and so forth.

  7. If you didnt change any ram dividers in your bios, your ram should be slightly overclocked from the processor overclocking you did.

Just go into cpuz again, and look at your ram frequancy and see what it says. It should be around 200mhz per stick. If it is higher then 200mhz then it is overclocked. I dont know how high you can take your ram up, but Im guessing at least around 220mhz per stick if not a little more giving you ddr440 speeds.

BUT remember the more you overclock anything the more juice it needs. My Corsair XMS Pro is getting 2.9 volts (which is maxed out in my bios settings), I dont know if you can up your voltage that high, or where you currently have it set at. Best idea would be to goto corsair.com and find the specs of your memory just so you dont toast it.

Open up cpuz again, and post a screen shot of your memory timmings where it says 3-3-3-7 or whatever (under the memory tab of cpuz). Them are usally recomended timings for the ram. I know tho that when I bought mine, my recomended timings wherent correct and could go a lot faster.

Id almost try the times im going with in my screen shot of cpuz. 2-2-2-6 with a 1t command rate. Otherwise if that is not stable, try for a 2-3-3-6 and a 1t command rate.

I didnt know you where posting that to meade bassjunkie. I remember reading that once Steve installed Windows Vista that he hasnt had any more bsod probloms which is good :)

  8. Most the time when overclocking, bsod (blue screen of death) is related to a memory error. If you into settings and turn off the thing to automaticly restart after bsod, right down the bsod code and check it online you will know what is causing the bsod.

To turn it off, right click on my computer, goto properties, click the advance tab, under startup and recovery click on settings, and where it says system failure uncheck the box that says automaticlly restart. So next time you bsod, it wont restart, it will just site there with that blue screen. Right that long code down, and then once you restart google it to find out the cause of your crash.

    Cheers :)

  9. Ok. Im going to make this a long shot, but your ram is what is killing you :(

Your ram dividers seem to be fine at the moment, but the mis matched memory is the thing.

I have 2 sticks of Corsair XMS ram, and 2 sticks of Corsair Value select (512x4) making 2 gigs of ram.

I have two 1 gig sticks of Corsair XMS Pro, beautiful memory with the led activity led's

But when mixing up 2 different types of ram (ie xms and value select) is where you run into probloms. The xms will have faster timings then the value select ram. The xms will also be more stable then the value select ram.

One thing I would try is pulling out your 2 sticks of value select and run your computer with just the xms and try doing your overclock again. and see how that works. Im willing to bet that it is your ram kicking a error.

Also another thing too, you cant run faster ram timings with 4 sticks of memory, you can still get your timings pretty tight, but you can run faster timmings with 2 sticks over 4 sticks.

  10. A great overclocking site is overclock.net. they are really helpful there and there is alot of knowledge in their forums. Sorry steve if its not allowed giving out other site names.

    A helpful program is cpu-z.

Again, what kind of motherboard do you have? Asus and DFI are the best overclocking motherboards with the most options for a good, fast, stable overclock.

Putting more voltage to your processor or ram will increase your temps. I got a 800mhz overclock on my amd 3700+ san diego processor and run fine, and never peak over 50 degrees C at full load.

When you are overclocked, run cpu-z and see what your memory frequancy is. If you are running 2 ddr sticks, your resulting freq should be around 200mhz per stick. Look at my added picture below of my specs in cpuz. It says 174.7, and that is my frequancy per stick, so my resulting frequancy with both sticks would be 349.4 mhz. Do if you got ddr 400 memory, and you are running over 200mhz per stick (400mhz both sticks combined) your ram may be maxing out (or running too fast). Some cheaper brands of memory cant handle the extra speed, and this is when ram dividers come into play. So going into bios and setting a slower divider such as a 266 divider will make your ram speed run slower, but the processor overclock will make up for it, so right now with my system overclocked at 3.0gigs, my ram is running 50.6mhz slower then when Im not overclocked.

Also look at your HTT speed in cpuz. You should be no lower then 800mhz, and now higher then 1200 mhz. If you are lower or higher change your htt setting in bios. Mine is at 1080.4 which is right in the middle of the two for the most part. Most motherboards have htt 1, 2, 3, and 4 settings.

Overclocking can be a pain in the rear and will take time. But again it is hard to help without knowing what kind of memory, and motherboard you are using. Ram, and ram dividers play a big part in a good overclock, along with keeping your ram, and processor cool. Good case ventalation is a must, and a good zalman heatsink on your processor is almost a needed thing, but I had my pc clocked for a long time without having a good heatsink and didnt limit my clock too much.

Also if you know how, Flash your motherboard bios....... Most motherboards allow you too flash in windows which makes it a breeze to do!

  11. it does have a cd player look on the specs WMA/MP3

The iDA-X001 is a Media headunit, it was built around the ipod. It has NO cd player. WMA/MP3 are not cd's, It is a type of audio format... I mess around with that hu all the time at my buddys shop, and always charge my ipod from it because I dont have any cables for it.

Its a great hu for $340.00 its hard to explain but its the only alpine hu that you can be playing a song from your ipod, and constantly be browsing for your next song you want to play (while the other song is still playing). Its all in real time, so as fast as you could manually search through your ipod for a song is as fast as you can search for it on your headunit.

It also comes with the cables to hook up your ipod too it, you dont need to buy an additional ipod kit for it like other hu's.

There is only 1 flaw I dislike about it, and that is the detachable face, only the left side of the face detaches, the part with the screen does not come off, but thats not too big of a deal really.

  12. You can overclock dual cores, my buddys is oced to hell, altho I forget what his specs are.

Its probolly not your cpu, most likely your ram speed maybe maxing out, your ram timings maybe to fast, your cpu and or ram might not be getting enough juice, you may have your htt set to low or too high.

Its really hard to say. Overclocking takes time to get your computer too run stable.

Id deff say to flash to the newest bios version on your motherboard.

Id turn off the amd utilities such as aibooster or whatever if you have it.

Id turn off every setting in bios that is set to auto such as voltages, multipliers, and what not.

But it be better to know what motherboard, and ram you are using also.
