  1. Well since I have a nice 4 day weekend this week (besides the friday and saturday night I am bouncing at the club) I decided to go ahead and carpet the box, paint the port, and ended up making the rest of the box 1.5" thick (before just the front baffle was 1.5"). I was also wondering about going ahead and fiberglass resining the inside of the box, not sure how much it would help though. I still got time to make up my mind on that though because I still got to redrill the holes for the 8 gauge speakers since the box got thicker and I have to go buy some bolts to hold the sub in, It snapped 4 screws that I noticed when taking the sub out.

So heres a few pics of the box being almost done.

Of coarse another sub pic or two...

Here are some pics of the car when I first got it. It had a kx650.4, kx1200.1, two 12" kicker l7s (firing up into the rear deck that was cut out), two 1fared RF caps, audiocontrol overdrive, all RF wiring, pioneer hu deh-p680mp (liked the cda-9833 better so thats what went in the car), and pioneer ts-c130r components in all 4 doors.

So I guess the stereo got updated a little bit for its better. I should get my ext-3000d back in a week or two, hopefully they will have all the bugs worked out of it :D

  2. Im pretty sure you should fuse it by the alt and by the batt, so two fuses on the one line. Id recomend using something like the stinger circut breakers, just incase the fuse would blow, all you would have to do is flip a switch, and not go and have to dig around under the hood trying to replace a fuse. But that depends on how much room you have to work with. Theres no room under my caddy hood, so circute breakers are just easyier for me.

Are you running a high output alt? If your not, I wouldnt even really worry about fusing it, stock wires are not fused going to the battery, the fuse is too mainly to protect your after market alt that cost $400 or more. But If you do the big 3 and you fuse it, remember to remove the stock pos wire otherwise your fuse on your newer thicker gauge wire is useless.

Hope that helps you some ;)

  3. My amp is getting ext-3000d is getting sent back in this comming monday to be fixed again. I was told by the repair shop that they will go through it better, and run it in their demo vehicle for a few days to make sure it is worry free. (im hoping that they will do something about the repair bil, but who knows). :-X

Hopefully this time it works properly. I had a feeling that it wasnt correct after setting my gain with the ROE volt calculator (although I used rms watts, and not peak, I wasnt sure on which to use, so I went with rms).

I entered in 3000 by 1 ohm, and it said 54.8. I tuned my gain to that on a really nice dmm, and well lets just say it didnt sound like 3000 watts or even close to 1000. I had a pioneer class d amp in the car when the amp was getting repaired, it was rated at 500watts rms and 1000 peak at 2 ohm (not 1 ohm stable, but took it fine), and was pretty close to the same volume.

I also had the line driver in with my ext-3000d and it did nothing but put my amp into protect with amp gain all the way down, and line driver gain all the way down.....

  4. INCASE ANYONE WAS WONDERING ABOUT THAT 1 FARED RF CAP, It is for the Clarion 4channel amp, it needs it... LoL

Im glad everyone likes the port, I think its sooo sexy.. Was thinking about throwing some carpet on the box sometime this weekend since I got a nice 4 day weekend thanks to thanksgiving. We just wanted to get it all in the car and hear how it sounded.. That 1 12 put the two 12 inch kicker l7s to shame!!! Until the amp popped!

So I just took the cover off my spl dynamics and inspected it a little and say this, I thought it was cute enought to take a picture of........................

Ever wonder what a good amp looks like compaired to a kicker kx1200.1?

  5. oh belive me, that box is glued!. It is glued where the wood meet the other board, and then again along the corners on the inside of the box. i used power grip or something like that. I threw the tube away already. But if you ever seen the commerical where this guys neighbor is working on his house really early in the morning, and wakes the guy nextdoor up, and he walks to his house and grabs the guys hammer that he is banging on his house with, and runs a bead of the caulk along the hammer and glues it to the guys ceiling then walks away.

We did cheap out a little bit tho on the wood, we used a old box we made for some dd 3515s that was 11cubed tuned too about 45 hertz that sat in a mazda mx3 firing foward.. That was a big box!!! heres some pics I took with my cell before I got uncheap and bought a digi, but it will give you an idea of the box size... PS: Dont diss the audiobling, right now I have more respect for a 2400watt rms amp at 15.5 volts for $400, then the spl dynamics that is 3000watt rms at 14.4 that costs almost $3000!

  6. :-

So I had two 12inch kicker l7s that where starting to fry, so me and a friend built a box for his sub that was just collecting dust in his room. So we build this box and get it all hooked up. It sounded pretty good, went to adjust the gain to 54.8volts on a multimeter, and started banging in our old walmart parking lot. And whats the amp do? It FRIES!!!!!!!!!!! Again! I just got the thing back from getting fixed, I guess a couple powersupply and output mosfets where burned, and a pcb board. So Im assuming its the samething again.. But there must be something causing that to make them keep blowing. I dunno what, but its really starting to suck. I would of thought the amp would of kicked into protect or something, but I guess not...

But heres some pictures... Its not the best install, but it gets the job done since we had to work outside because the garage is trashed beyond belief... LoL

Box was 3.66 cubed before displacement, tuned to 32 hertz.

  7. heres a pic I took of my owneers manual, its kinda hard to see, but if you blow it up some you can kinda read. I would of scanned it, but Im too p00r for a scanner :o

I was having a question about strapping too.

Ive been hearing that if your amp is 1 ohm mono stable, and you strap 2 amps together, you can now only run 2 ohm mono.

Id like to be able too run 2 amps strapped at 1ohm for daily driving, so it would be like running 1 amp by itself at .5 ohm.

Could I get aways with this? Id figure there would be a tad more strain on the amp, but maybe Ill just get my second amp before buying subs incase it wouldnt be good for the amp. I guess 6000rms @ 2 ohm would be good enough. But I guess Im kinda curious..

  8. I just found the viper site, or whatever, and it says up to a half mile. How they judge their half mile Im not sure of.

But I remember when I was a younin and had these radioshack walkie talkies, they said they worked up to a mile away, but to reach that mile or reception, you had to be in a semi flat area with not to many buildings blocking the signals, So like in fields and on lakes they where good, but when you went from inside a house, to  someplace down the road the reception started getting horrable.

  9. whatever you do dont run it one some l7s, they start to fry  :o hahahaha. Youll like it tho, I love my ext-3000d

Did you check ebay at all? I remember seeing one on their last week, along with a fried 150.1 It might still be on there, otherwise ill check my bookmark on it, and give you the sellers name, maybe it didnt sell because he didnt get his reserve. I was interested in it, but wasnt sure if I could strap that with my spl dynamics :R

  10. Id say the pioneer avic units. Id settle for a n1 or whatever, and them are pretty old now.. I just like the pioneers becasue from what I read on their units they have gps built into the unit all for $1600 and under depending on where you buy it. Where as alpine, clarion, eclipse all require you to buy the screen/dvd/cd/mp3/tuner unit for about 1600, and then drop at least another 1200 on the gps unit.

  11. hmmm i thought I read a mile, maybe I just remember seen the mile part, and not the number infront of the mile  :R

I know I park my car far away from where I work in the factory, and by the time Im ready to leave my jobsite at work, I have my car started. hehe thats good enough for me I guess.

Thanks for the replys guys. I will mess with it tomorrow, getting kinda late now, and I dont wanna accidently set it off when my hood is all asleep.  :o

  12. May I ask you a surious question?

How are you going to tell how much space you have to work with from a picture? You aint going to know deminsions from looking at a picture, unless the picture tells you them.

Why dont you ask your friend to measure out the max dimensions of his trunk. Id also ask him if more trunk space is used up while top is down, or if he has the same amount of space with the top up or down.

I dont belive the Bxi1606ds are very large in size, you should easily have room to mount them either behind, infron, or on the side of the box some where, maybe on the rear seats if his rear seats fold down, just make sure to secure the wires to the seat so they dont rip out the amp when you fold the seats up and down.

My friend has two 3515s in 4 cubed box, they sound pretty good, I think your friend would be very pleased with the 12s!!  :^

  13. ya, I dont have the one he did, but I have the slowed down chopped and screwed or whatever he based it off of, and one I attempted to make which kind of turned out like crapola... >:( Thats why I said, if your talented and have acidpro or some other audio editing softwear you can make your own in whatever hertz you want and get creative with it  :D

  14. Lol. I came here looking for another song, and seen this topic. so sorry for bringing back an old topic..

I think I have the "in the air tonight" song that was used in the truck with the 24 12s or whatever. I remember wanting that song a long time ago too. But like I said, it is bassless, but you could add your own bass like I did :) The one i redid isnt all that bad, it bangs pretty good in my house with the four 15s, but in the car i dont think it sounds the best, I could of brought the mids and tweets up higher in acid, but didnt realize it right away.

Ill upload them too a hosting company later tonight, but for now its bar time  :o
