  1. Hey guys I have 2 sa12's and and running off of a sax 1200d and plan on jumping to the saz 2500d. I have a yellow top optima under the hood now and I have an xs power 3400 on it's way, I have heard it's not good to mix batteries but I really don't want my optima to go to waste, I just bought it like 2 weeks ago. If it's ok to mix both will go under the hood, which one should go to the amps...

  2. Ok thanks guys! It sounds great but you all know after a bit we want louder! So I'll stick with this until I upgrade again! Ram did do a hell if a job with this design it's tuned at 45hz in a bandpass, get pretty damn low...

  3. Anybody? Sum guy at car stereo place said I could get louder by doing this of course since he never heard of sundown and he is a kicker guy he knows he could have built box to be louder, and suggested shortening the port to like 8"???

  4. Well congrats on what you are running sir. :woot: and also congrast on what you have seen :good: .But running that amp at .5 is require alot of power. and there is nothing wrong with over kill. im only running a 3500 watt system but i have a 270 amp alt an 3 xs power d3400s. So if ur saying my information is wrong. i would like to know y. There is nothing wrong with having extra power if needed. and if he already has to run that amp at .5 to get the power he is looking for he will be looking for a up grade in no time..

another member on here that lives by me has a Goliath on a stock cobalt alternator (135 amps or something) and 2 hc1400's (iirc) in the trunk. he said he drops to 13 or so. im not saying there is no problem with having that extra output on demand, but when he doesnt need it there is no point imho. he never stated he was going to upgrade as well. a secondary battery and the big 3 and he should be fine. alot of people on here (not talking about you) think that dropping under 14v means that their whole car is going to blow up. and when said people give advice, then they make the OP spend alot of unnecessary money for something that they dont really need at that point in time.

I just talked to the guy at alt shop he says they change the stator and diodes? Is that going to be enough?

  5. What if I just upgrade my alt I can get that done for like 170$, would that take care of it or would I still need to do big 3 and add battery? If I still need to do those things I won't do alt, and just do big 3 and or add battery...

for $170, i assume they just replacing the stator with a larger one. if thats the case, your output power at idle will drop SIGNIFICANTLY if you do that. i had a remanufactured stock alt with a larger stator and i dropped to high 11's one time AT IDLE IN PARK with no stereo or lights on, but consistently dropped to low 12's every day when at idle. at stop lights i always had to put it in neutral and rev the engine a little so i could just get the freaking thing charging. you can counter though that with a smaller pulley but that can only help so much. lesson learned here? dont cheap out on alternators.

How do I know if that's what there doing? I was told 240 alt and that's the whole alt change? I'm I misunderstanding?

  6. What if I just upgrade my alt I can get that done for like 170$, would that take care of it or would I still need to do big 3 and add battery? If I still need to do those things I won't do alt, and just do big 3 and or add battery...I'm just looking for easiest solution and best economically, BUT not cutting corners!

  7. Alright I just installed a blowthrough in my crew cab silverado, it consists of 2sa12's and a sundown sax1200d, I'm running it at .5 ohms so I need to know exactly what I NEED to do electrically? I already changed my stock battery to a yellow top optima. My lights dim quite a bit when I'm playing music and I can see my battery voltage on my cluster drop down so I know I'm In need of some changes, just wanna do what's necessary! I have 4 gauge running to my sub amp....Thanks!

  8. I'm running 2 2ohm at .5

You can strap 2 1200s @ 2 ohms then since you have d2s

Would that be much change from running the 1200 at .5 thats what I'm doing now? Seems like strapping them at 2 wouldnt be much change? Could I run strapped at .5?

Doesn't work that way, running 2 amps strapped at 2 ohms = 1 ohm per amp so 2400 rms, if you run strap at .5 that's .25 per amp, hope you have one hell of an electrical to back that up

LOL didn't realize that! So do u think I'd notice a difference from what I'm doing now? I dont want to change it if I won't notice??
