  1. 60-70amps should be perfect to charge a battery for your draw.

    /sarcasm

I would honestly upgrade both alternator and battery. You don't need 300amps, but I would see what Mechman can do for you, and then save up later for a D2700. But then again, some of us love beefy electrical

I agree that you should ideally get both. Maybe get the Alt first and Big 3 then add batts as needed and as you can afford. The thing is you wany to BOTH sit and demo AND drive around FULL TILT. Over time (and probably not much) you will end up running your amps at low voltage, shortening the life of your batts and burning up your poor little alt.

  2. i am going to build a new setup and rite now im running 7 of the 16v kinetiks i have already upgraded my alt. with ext. reg. my setup now is only for spl but my new one i want to street beat. what is the best for street beat 12v 14v or 16v? i have been looking at the xs power 14volt batteries just don't know if i should keep my 16v kinetiks and run off the 12v post for street beat or look into the xs power 14v

What they've already said, step downs is the way to go since you are already vested in 16v batts.

  3. because a 14v battery charges at 16v and sits at 14v

a 12v battery charges at 14v and sits at 12v

so if you ran most cars on a 14v battery at 16v you would have VERY strong chance of frying your computer and wiring in your car

May you misunderstand what I mean. Or perhaps its something I dont understand.

Take a 16/12v battery for example.

Car running charging through the 16v post around 18v. What is the 12v side putting out? 12v or 14ish ?

  4. As the title says. I've been doing some research on 16v electrical systems as I am designing my system. Currently I will be going with alt set to charge 16v battery bank and step downs to the vehicles electrical system.

I know there are 16/12v batteries (with the dual ++ terminal) to feed the 12v to the cars electric. My question is why not a 16/14v battery since the vehicles electrical system really wants to see 14.x volts while running.

From the designing side of things it seems like a no-brainer and there should be a product available for this.

I'm already invested in Step-Downs for my application but someone help me to understand why the 16/12v battery exists and why 16/14v does not. 16/14 just seems more practical.

    edited for spelling errors.

  5. k i had sum shit thing that started smoking when i clicked the load button, but our DMM just got rebuilt now so i will check it tomrow, and yes i had a problem before, cuz i checked it .." with the shitty 10 tester", and it was at 10.5v.... i had 2 12" kickers hooked up before on my pioneer... never ever had a problem.... changed cd player to jvc right away when i turned up when the bass hit on my speakers..lol... it wuld short, or "clip" out, so i checked voltage with shitty thing it said 10.5.. i changed alternato.. 12v...il check with our new snap on DMM tomorow, but the cd player thing seemes like a vol;tage drop since when i turned the music up, on my speakers it would kinda shit out, but never ever hada problem before so idk if its just cd player

What type of battery are you running and did you charge it with a "plug in the wall" battery charger while you replaced the alternator?

  6. ok so i just upgraded from 8 gauge wires to 4 gauge wires on my 2 db drive platinum series dvc 4ohm they are wired to a kicker zx750.1 and when i had the 8 gauge wires it would hit harder and now with the 4gauge it hits hard but i have to turn up the gain and everything to get close to what i had with the 8 gauge and my voltage goes down alot more any idead on what i should do ?

This wire upgrade from 8 ga to 4 ga was this power to the amp or the speaker wires from Amp to Sub ?

this was a upgrade for the battery to amp wires

    Have you already done big3?

Do you notice its not hitting as hard at low levels also, or just hi volume levels?

How bad is the voltage drop ?

Since you have already checked your ground you may have just opened a bottleneck and now you are at the next weakest point maybe.

And remember, gains is not a volume control the gain should be set so as not to clip.

  8. I was wondering if I can get the advice of some more experienced box builders on my current setup. I am running 4 - 18" Sundown Zv2 subs, each powered by a RF T15001bdcp amp. The box/wall is 39H x 49W x 28.5D.. Port is 30H x 10W x 17.5D.. With the baffle/woofer/bracing removed I am coming out to about 21.3 cubes and tuned to about 34hz according to the box calculator. The subs/box sound good, but at times the subs just sound as if they are working too hard on the low notes (sorry I dont know any other way to describe it, almost sounds like they are free air). I have set the gains w/ an O-scope, so I am fairly sure I am not clipping. I was wondering if perhaps my box/port are just too big and maybe I should make both a little smaller. Any input would be greatly appreciated. You can also see my build log in my sig to see the setup if that helps at all.

What do you have your Subsonic (infrasonic) filter set to ?

  9. I got 2 xs 6500's I may need to ship. Thought I had factory packaging, but I do not. These are 58 pounds each, any suggestions to keep them safe from the fucktard FedEx people?

When I shipped out 20 of the D1600's, they weigh 50lbs each, and I used boxes that were a little bigger than the batts themselves, and stuffed them with Newspaper balled up... Put it on the bottom, so it was about 2 inches thick after being smashed down, and then stuffed the sides and top, taped up like mofo and all was great...

I got one of these batteries and it arrived fine. just don't get stingy on the news paper and it'll be good. And don't use a box that's too big or the paper will just displace.

    /Cheers
