set gain with bass knob all the way up.
I hope you're joking
not joking, bass knob is just a remote gain not a boost. set the amp gain with the remote turned up will prevent you from clipping with the knob.

Sounds like you need more substage if you have to turn up what you have to the point of hot coils and stinky smell.
Back to the design phase maybe??

First welcome back to the hobby. Hands down DC makes a quality product. There are a bunch of Korean made amps available today that use basically the same configuration, similar board design and general look. DC is above the rest in that the internal components are of higher quality and produce more clean power consistently. The cost difference is in the parts. As with everything else you get what you pay for. I run a DC Amp because I want the money I spend to purchase a quality product that is going to do what I expect it to do, do it well, and keep n doing it.
As a side note, look into the DC Level 4. For just a little more money you'll have a sub that you can upgrade a bit further in the future with upgraded soft parts. Just a thought....Level 3 a perfectly nice sub also.

edit:
you spelled weird wrong
I love it when someone points out someones mistake, only to make a mistake in that post. you didn't use "your" correctly.
The correct spelling would be "you're".

Squeezing more voltage from your alternator.
Either using XS pluging modules, external regulator with analog adjustment or "other tricks" to get the most out of your alternator. Tweak it at the source!

14V and 16V Batteries
in XS Power Batteries / Chargers! (and other stuff too)

Batteries don't create power, they only store power for later use. For a 1000k watt system just upgrade your under the hood battery to a quality AGM and you should be good. What brand alternator are you running now ?
