  1. are you wanting to see actual existing setups, or if anyone's had experiences with low end brands? if it's the latter and all you want is bang, i have a friend who's got a sony xplod amp powering a kenwood typhoon 12 and an mtx 5500 12 (none of it new, most of it likely stolen) in a prefab box with countless holes and leaks. it cant really hit any low notes, and i've taken shits that sounded better than it, but for midbass it sounds pretty loud for what it is (i said loud, not good). although i did meet a guy with the same sony xplod amp (his was much nicer) powering a couple of kicker comp 12's. he had it in a really clean infinite baffle type setup. not only did it look clean as all hell, it sounded so deep, clean, and loud. so in essence, it's up to the installer to make the system shine. oh, and make sure your box is custom designed for the subs. never waste your money on prefab
  2. what if i kept the stock batt up front and then added a batt in the back purely for the sound system? also, i've heard a rumor that doing a 2 batt setup on a stock alt puts a lot of stress on the alt. is this true? thanks
  3. or would a better battery be able to hold a charge longer so the alternator can keep up?
  4. true, but i don't know how i'd pay without giving them access to my bank account.
  5. so i used to have a 500 watt amp installed that used 4 awg wire. i recently got a job at best buy and decided that 500 watts didn't do it for me anymore, so i jumped up to a 2500 watt amp. appropriately, i got a 0awg amp kit for it. i checked install rates, and even with my employee discount, installation would run me around $30-$40 even though i really just need to have the trim panels removed. i've tried removing one by myself before and ultimately ended up bending it. so are there any tips, tricks, or tools that you guys have found to work pretty well? also, what's the best way to cut 0awg wire? thanks
  6. hmm i know bandpass is good for competition and stuff because it's really loud for certain frequencies, but i'm looking for more of a daily driver. will i sacrifice the hairtrick capabilities if i go daily?
  7. nope. smack dab in the middle of nowhere...erm.. iowa. my username stands for 4 12" cvx subs
  8. ha i'm not sure if you've seen my screen name, but i have 4 12" cvx's already. i would have gone with fi if i didn't work at best buy and get the cvx's for about 1/3 of the retail price.
  9. i think the term "correctly" flew out of my vocabulary the second i looked at the owners manual for the subs. if i go ported i'm mainly looking to be able to do a hairtrick (even a small one) while still retaining some sound quality. if i go sealed, i'm looking for the best sound quality possible (but it still needs to be somewhat loud)
  10. how does bracing interrupt airflow? and i'm not sure i know what threaded rod is
  11. how does bracing interrupt airflow? and i'm not sure i know what threaded rod is
  12. do you have any suggestions that would work for my car? if i kept my stock alt and just added the new one to my system? would there be any compatibility problems? and would installation costs just defeat the purpose?
  13. well when you make a mere 300 every two weeks and you have college in the fall to save for and you're absolutely addicted to car audio, you start to take any help you can get. so if you ever find yourself looking for something to do, i would greatly appreciate any and all designs. i might send the winner 20 feet of 12 gauge kicker speaker wire. brand new. i'd just have to figure out shipping. i've tried designing a few boxes myself, but i can never seem to get the tuning part down and i'm never sure of the volume. also, if i decided to go sealed, should i do an infinite baffle type deal or stick with a standard sealed enclosure? so if you ever decide
  14. ha i wish i had a yellowtop! but no everything under the hood is stock.
  15. i've got an 01' mercury sable (similar to a taurus) and my zx 2500.1 is obviously a little much for the stock electrical system to handle. i've asked around and got mixed answers, but most of the local "experts" are from best buy... i'm going to do the big 3 upgrade first in hopes that that fixes everything (i'm doubtful but it's worth a shot when youre on a budget) but in the likely case that that does not solve all my problems, what would you do; new battery, or new alternator? or maybe keep the stock battery and add a second batt for the trunk? maybe even doubling up alts? i'm fairly new to the topic so keep it as simple as possible. also, are there anything you would recommend? price is a pretty big factor. thanks!
  16. ha ice cube. but there may or may not be a prize for the winner of this "contest"
  17. hey everyone! essentially i've got an opening to my trunk that's 13" high and about 30" wide. essentially the max box dimensions are 13" x 30" x 38". my challenge to you is to design a ported box for the trunk of an 01 mercury sable (basically the same thing as a taurus). aero ports are preferred but any other types of ports can be used too 1" square dowels can be used for bracing also, try to incorporate some metal angle brackets for bracing tuned no lower than 30 hz and no higher than 37 hz this box will house 4 12" cvx's (the new 2010 version) so the title was more or less a lie... but now that you've read all this, i would really appreciate some help! thanks!
  18. hey everyone, this is my first post here so i'm likely violating at least 10 different rules right now. but that's beside the point. i have an '01 mercury sable LS premium sedan (similar to a Taurus) and i'm about to put at least 200 pounds worth of bass in the trunk. right now i only have 2 of 4 CVX 12's in. so my trunk probably has a little over 100 pounds of bass in it at the moment and it's sitting pretty low. i know grandma cars like mine really weren't meant for that much beat, but what kind of rear suspension could i get to help with that? keep in mind i'm a senior in high school, still living with my parents working part time and only making about $300 every two weeks. price is obviously a big factor. so with that in mind, are there any products that you would recommend? if so what are the prices? any and all feedback appreciated. thanks
