It's been about two and a half years since this happened, and I figure it's time my situation come to light about my C/S experience with Matt from Mechman.
My Alt died because it overheated itself during normal operation while I was driving.
Sent it back for repair.
Got a call saying it would be about $100 to fix.
Told him I can't really do that right now because that was when I just blew the trans up in the Bronco.
He says that's okay and to just call him when I'm ready.
I get trans in and am slowly saving up cash to get it fixed.
Start BSing up Rob from DC Power in chat one night about how/why the alt died.
He said that alt was a poor choice because the type he sold me is known to run hot.
He said he could repair it at his place for the price of parts which would only be about $20, I say great and decide to call MM and have him ship it back.
Talked to him on the phone and he said, "Are You sure, it will only be about $30 to fix." and I said, "Yea, I really don't have the money right now and I don't want it so take up space at your place."
He said, it's okay, he'll put it in the back and to just call back whenever.
I unfortunately agreed.
Call him 3-4 weeks later because I had the cash.
Says he can't find me in the system.
I explain what happened and he said, "Oh. Well after awhile, we just throw them out." I say, "Are you serious? It's just gone? Well, what are you gonna do about this, are you gonna make me a new alt and I pay you the cost of what it was gonna be to repair the old one?"
He says, "No, but I can give you a really good deal on a new one."
Apalled at this point I say, "Well what kind of deal."
He quote me like $190 something for the same alt.
I say, well how long is that offer good for? He says about 2-3 weeks.
I say, okay, I'll let you know.
Never called him back.
As far as I know, this is a unique situation and has only happened to me, but I believe future customers should be aware of this situation.
That $299 was a big chunk of change I had to give up.
