Advice?
252chevyboyz replied to autos's topic in General Audio - Can't find a category for your question? Ask here.
Well the RMS is "1000w x 2 Ohm x 1 Chan." so it should push out that power with no problem. Decent price also -

Crecendo does make some good amps from what I have read around the community. I can say Planet Audio does make some cheap amps that are 1000w RMS. I post a link below. I haven't heard a Planet Audio amp in person so I cant say a whole lot about them but they look decent for the price. Just google Planet Audio Amps and click on Google Shopper to see prices Planet Audio USA P.S. I hope my next amp is going to be Sundown or DC. Good quality and reliable amps -
I have read over the link that is below quite a few times and seems to pretty helpful for settings gains on an amp. Hope the link can help and congrats on getting that ski hole opened up How to Properly Set Gains

How is the Parametric Bass EQ set? A pic to describe my words is below in the link. Maybe snag a pic of that end of the amp? Hifonics Pic

How is the amp setup now boss?
-
Might want to give the link below a look to see some basic info on setting gains. I have def read over it a couple times for sure. I'm also really doubting the Amp is faulty. Your amp should be more than fine. Setting Gains

I'm with LA Bass on this one. It must be your gains. Might try turning them down a tad and see if you can get to a higher volume without clipping. I dont think it has anything to do with your system cause everything sounds like a hard hitting setup

Whats up man, what kind of radio do you have and what are a few details on your setup? (amp, subs, etc.)

This is my 1997 Chevy Tahoe with 2 Q Power 12's and a SM2-1200 Autotek amp. Garage Link. Kinda small system for now cause money is tight but I gotta enjoy my hobby and it's something that one day maybe can make me a living. I got 4ga wire run for power and ground wires and 12ga wire running from the amp to the subs. I have a 100A fuse up front. The box dimensions are listed below along with port dimensions. I still have the stock HU from Chevy and I am looking to get another as soon as I can so i can have more control over the audio system and know what my clipping volume is. Pics start below. Please click link below to see build log of the Tahoe. **new update today** 252chevyboyz - '97 Tahoe Update info: replaced the crappy 18ga speaker wire that was running from the amp to the subs with a nicer 12ga wire. Any comments on whether or not ya'll think this is a wise decision would be appreciated.

$130 isnt bad for something that accurate. Once I get my funds up for testing equipment I'm really thinking on buying one. Back to the topic though smelling the subs when its new might just be the new smell burning out kinda like when you get a new muffler. Like it was said above it is def bad if the smell continues.
-
Yea I was thinking clipping might be the problem also. Glad it is sounding good for you though. An Oscope can def help tune your system for the best sound and less heat. I got to currently Oscope my system i have currently. Hope you can get the heat issue fixed and dont forget to run that A/C in the car

I havent ever heard a Planet Audio in person thats why i was asking for a few more opinions. Looks like the best amp for the $$ so I dont think your going wrong. It's an upgrade from the 450w Jensen . I dont think it will kill the electrical that much or it shouldn't. To get a full 1600w make sure you go with at least a 160A Fuse if not a 200A Fuse becase i believe for fuses its like for every 10A=100watts right? So a 150A fuse would allow 1500w? BTW no problem for the help bro

Ok thats good the one you have now works. I will say Supercharged does seem to know his boxes along with how to tune them. If your set on getting a new amp and not another box I prolly would take his suggestion and build another box once you get the funds to do so after buying the amp. As for amps how does the Planet Audio amp look that I posted above?
-
The right box really can help especially with the right tuning. I'm thinking about actually trying to eventually make my own box and get away from my premade one but I got just one question... Didnt you say your amp was totally broken now and that you were selling it to get money for a new one that is in working condition?
