  1. Alright, that makes sense. I saw Mikey Pilato's Hummer this weekend at SBN that Singer built and it had the subs inverted through multiple baffles. Was just curious as to how I'd do that through only 2 or 3 baffles though. I just thought that there'd be a sealing issue when turning the sub around and mounting it on the face of the baffle because the Kickers I've got now have a sort of hard plastic that the screws go through and I could've sworn the face of the sub isn't "flat."

And no I won't be inverting the Kickers, but when I upgrade to an SSA Zcon I was thinking about doing it with that ;)

  2. This may seem like a pretty self-explanatory question, but is it as simple as mounting the subwoofer into the baffle before gluing/screwing the rest of the box together? Or is there a simpler/better way to do so? It's the only way I could think of and is how I think I might be doing my next box

  3. Anyone ever used self tapping screws? Pass up the pre drill and just use these?

the predrilling is to stop the screws from splitting the wood and sink into it better...self tappers would split the hell out of mdf i would think..but no ive never tried it

Those I was told to stay away from at all costs

Tried using the self tapping ones from home depot before...they say that you don't need to predrill but that's bullshit. Ended up splitting worse than using regular screws w/out predrilling

  4. I'd say a couple years or so. Just trickle charge it every now and then

What about without charging? I don't have a charger. I know that you're supposed to charge it right before installing/using, but I think I should be able to ask my dad's friend (owns a mechanic shop) to use one for just the day that that comes up. Meaning I won't be able to continuously go trickle charge it =/

  5. Alright now, if I were to buy an XP3000 before the group buy runs out for the month, how long would I be able to keep it before actually installing it? A month or two, a few weeks/days? Just wondering, because I've still got to get a new H/O alt and I don't feel like wiring and all that without having everything to do at once.

All in all, just wondering how long it'll be fine for if it's just sitting around before I install it. Cheers!

  6. I love how everyone picks the word "Birch" out of what was meant to be "Baltic Birch" and just assumes they are the same.

The shit you buy at lowes and home depot are not baltic birch or even close. The stuff you can buy at the super stores is full of voids and is generally only 5-9 layers. The good wood that everyone likes to use is 13-15 ply and is what is actually stronger than mdf being its void free and cross directionally laminated. You will pay a price for it however.

Generally, cabinet supply companies and good lumber yards are the only places you will find the real deal. Good luck on your searching.

Don't let the price put you off though, the gas you save overtime from less weight (even though it may be a few pounds) will add up and eventually work in your favor

  7. Yeah, I had to remove the weather sealing strip from around the trunk, take out the spare tire well cover (which I had to slide back in from inside the car after the box was finally in), and then to top it all off shave the two bottom rear corners of the box. Now I've gotta do all of this in reverse to take it back out tomorrow morning and replace it with the box I've been building the past two days. At least this new box should leave me room to get an air compressor put back in so that I'll have a train horn again! ^_^

  8. 6 cubes is about as big as you are going to get in a cavalier trunk. and you will have to fire it up. Youi can not get the 19.5 inches on a flat plane firigin in or to the rear.

Story of my life. I had trouble squeezing in roughly a 5.5 gross cubic foot box for 2 12s into my Cav trunk that I built outside the car.

  9. Coming from the owner of a 2003 Cavalier...the fuhhh? I can see maybe trying to fit a single 15 in a ported box in the trunk, but as it is right now I barely managed to slide in a box for 2 12s...even if you build it in the trunk I honestly don't see fitting a ported box for an 18 in there. I might be missing some extra bit of info though?

EDIT: I suppose you could use the spare tire well to add an extra cubic foot or so, but even then I don't think you'll be able to fit an 18 in there facing forward or backwards just because of the height. Maybe facing upward with a port facing forward? :puzzled:

  10. i do not know of anyone there having a dd-1. but yes we will have a TL or two there for tuning. this is a no cost event you can get metered or tune for free. we just want to make sure everyone has fun-

Good deal man! I will most likely be out there to see what my little 200watt setup does, always been curious. Hopefully there's more than just a few people though. I'd really love to see and hear some good systems :yahoo:
  11. Surprised there's not more posts on here, I actually have Saturday off so I will definitely look into it! Says that it's only about 20 minutes away from the USF campus, so that's a plus as well. When you say free metering, do you mean on the TL? And do you think anybody there would have a DD-1? Thanks for sharing this event man, looks like it should be a blast!

  12. All I really know is that in Audacity if you zoom in to the track right around where the bass is hitting, you should be able to see the wave. If you check out this picture:

You can see the top track which is Hustle Hard by Ace Hood. Notice how the lines look flat right around the top/bottom when the bass hits? That's what clipping is. If it were to look wavy like the bottom however (just a pure sine wave I generated) then you'd be fine.

  13. i don't know why but all my music is clipped to hell in audacity even my decaf stuff please help

Did this just recently happen, or has it always been like this? And if you go in and check the parts where it's clipped you should be able to tell whether it's the bass that's actually clipped or just the mids/highs. If it still looks like a sine wave where the bass hits instead of just flat areas at the top/bottom of the wave then it should just be the mids/highs clipping.
  14. So, decided to stop by the gas station after work just now for a scratchoff and a donut. I get back in my car and do the usual donut eating while scratching it off. Just to make things interesting, I decided to scratch the numbers off first, without scratching off the prize amounts. I quickly noticed that the number 7 appeared 3 times in the winning area, and the number 14 appeared twice. No prize amounts showing yet, only these. I scratch off my winning numbers and see that both of my numbers were 7 and 14 and I was all like :dancing: while choking on my donut.

At this point, I still don't know what the prize amounts are for each of my 5 winnings, but in my head I'm thinking "OMG this is so cool I just won like $50!" Then I scratch them off the prize amounts, and this is what I get:

  15. I'm hoping this sounds good in my car, I peak somewhere around 51 or 52Hz and when I ran this through Audacity I kept getting 49Hz @ about -9.9dB in a few different places without any clipping on the bass. Took a few screenshots too if anybody's interested (No really, I'm not weird!)

    Full track: http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc7/427702_3220969595838_1014379508_33094881_1409097971_n.jpg

    Ran a LPF at 80Hz with a rolloff of 48dB: http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/421286_3220970435859_1014379508_33094882_1921865818_n.jpg

Zoomed in with the LPF: http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc7/425230_3220971355882_1014379508_33094883_1606967019_n.jpg

This means that the bass isn't clipped, right? Just the mids/highs or whatever?

  16. WOW! I was actually listening to this while in a different tab on this forum so I was grooving to this before I even knew it was a chick!...I flip back and see this very beautiful lady. Truely amazing, everything just seems to fall into place sound-wise and it fits together perfectly.

EDIT: Just bought meself a new song off of iTunes, thank you very much good sir!
