  1. I understand that you're upset spending $400 and not having a working product in your hands. I get that, really dude I do.

Did you ever think to email the man that actually built the thing? That's all I'm getting at. Tony D makes himself VERY easily accessible and cares very much about you having a working product in your hands. Anyone that has had ANY interaction with him, knows this. A simple email/phone call and he would have taken a personal interest in YOUR problem. You saying that you doubt the guys making the tools probably don't give a shit about their products couldn't be further from reality.

Guess I am the luckiest person in the world to get back to back defective products of a rarely sold item. That's like buying a Ferrari and it becomes a lemon. Than get another Ferrari and its a lemon too. The odds???

I posted this thread about 2 weeks ago for some direction and no one had anything to say. Now I call out a brand and now everyone has something to say about the kind of person I am. Amazing that you guys are blaming me but when I was being nice asking for advice, you guys were all quiet. Now my asking for advice has turned into me causing my own issues and making accusations, you guys all want to start pointing the finger at me. Really guys? How many SMD products do you own? I am in no way a hater. I am an installer and always looking to get any edge I can over other installers in my area. I use my SMD tools on the regular. Hell if Steve came out with a fkn screw driver, I'd probably buy that too. A forum is open dialog for people to connect. Last time I had an issue I posted a thread and Tony responded later the same day. I was pretty much expecting a similar interaction since he still is a partner in here.

The AMM-1, like all of our tools has a auto-off timer that will shut it off after about 8 minutes to save the battery if accidentally left on. If you are deep in the middle of doing something and you are worried about it shutting off mid-test, just press the "ON" button occasionally, this will reset the timer.

If it turns off and says low batt when turned back on, or just won't turn on at all, the battery is probably junk. Even "fresh" batteries if cheap or old might have problems. You need a quality battery like a duracell or energizer that has been made in the last couple of years. They ususally have experation dates on the packaging.

About it not reading power, let's make sure the battery issue isn't an issue and then try measuring power again. You need both the voltage probes hooked to the amplifier speaker + and - and ONE of the speaker wires (the positive or negative doesn't matter but not both) going through the current transformer hole.

As for the serial number, it should be behind the rubber boot on the tool above the battery door. We build all of these by hand, 100% in Tempe, Arizona. We do not buy these or outsource the labor and the same 2 people have been building them for over 3 years and over 6000 units now. I have no idea why a serial number wouldn't be there.

Lets work though these items one at a time, I want you to enjoy using the AMM-1 as many others do.

  3. don't let your frustrations give you diarrhea of the keyboard. As long as they take care of it be happy. It seems once again someone has gone out of their way to post about an issue b4 going straight to the source to get the issue resolved. How come we never see threads saying I went to the source and they took care of me, thanks for great c\s.

so if I buy a new car and within the first week the radiator springs a leak I can go back and tell them I want a whole new car?

    ok

its the new breed of audio... which is why i have retired.. makes no damn sense..

    :ninja:

  4. It would be taken care of via warranty. Typically we build a new driver in any such case.

Fill our an RMA form on our site.

All *factory* made units have bolt-on clips -- that looks like a unit made in-house; in which case it's incredibly rare to see this... so I'll put the built-crew on alert about it.

So I will get a new speaker entirely. That is what I'd like. I filled out an RMA form.

How is the shipping taken care of?

edit: thanks for the swift reply Jacob, it's much appreciated.

how would you know the difference between a new speaker and the one that you have repaired? As long as you get a surround that is proper and will not do the same there makes no sense to give you coils, frame, spiders and a motor. That's just crazy.. but to each their own i guess.. Im sure sundown will take care of you either way

  5. Not putting my dealer down, cause they have help me out a bit. Maybe he told me that, but i have understand it wrong. So ya'll telling me that I have a level 3 with level 4 coil suppose to be?

More than likely yes, because having a level 4 woofer with a level 3 coil put into is actually pointless. Im pretty sure the level 3 coil is weaker than the level 4 coil so down grading a level 4 with a level 3 coil is unheard of.

Now putting a level 4 coil into a level 3 motor would possibly give you better power handling and handle a little more abuse if the cooling is up to the job on the level 3 motor, which Im sure it is.

So if anything you have a level 3 woofer with a level 4 coil, maybe an added spider to make a tad stiffer suspension.

Level 3m2 4 layer round wire coil

Level 4m2 8 layer flat wound coil

like you know anything about dc subs.. pff

  6. I have a 2000 f150 and wanted the 270A unit from mechman. Called them and they told me that would be bad for my truck due to the limited belt wrap on the 4.6l/5.4l engines from ford at that time period. They said they've had way less issues with the 240A unit. Saved me $100 and probably a mountain of issues.

lololol you serious? buddy of mine has a crown vic with the 4.6 and has a dc power 270xp on it. i never heard his belt make so much as a peep when demoing full tilt with 20k.

i think i know your buddy there pretty well lol... ask that fucker did he gets those leads changed out and the new coils like i said

    :peepwall:

    :ninja:

LOL i think he's got the new leads now...on just two subs though

awesome.. hopefully he will get those other 2 swapped out.. he will notice a change in sound as well as better cooling all together.. Those coils were ninja tested and approved ;)

    :ninja:

the coils are changed too? i thought it was just the lead change from sandwiched/stitched to foad.

the ones that he had did not have the new updated coils ( which have been out for a while) from when i talked to him at slam.. when i was testing them before they were released they were night and day different.. have a different ( better) sound as well as improved cooling from before which in his application he needs because he gets them bitches warm.. but i guess any sub would when your throwing a fucking 5500 to them at .5 LOL

he is in my top fucking 2 cars EVER..

    :ninja:

.5? bruh dont you mean .33 cause of dem Fi .7 coils?

you were at slam wtf i didnt see you. cue ninja joke.

edit: did you get a demo with the passenger seat out? hurt butts literally.

yea .33 sorry lol.. i have never heard it before and he made sure i got a demo.. with the seat out.. almost shit myself.. no doubt.. that thing is just on another level. we talked for a bit.. after the demo i called nick and told him to make him the new recones with the included coils and leads.. if he ever gets more electrical behind it.. LAWD!

and yes i was there.. i was hidden most of the time tho.. another surprised car was lems's. i told that sum bitch a long time ago he needed to rid of that ns1 and since switching to the 8k its NIGHT AND DAY different.

but that vic is just plain brutal. the video with jamy ( the sundown van) was because i went and drugged that motherfucker over to hear it.

    :ninja:

fugger needs to hurry up with the other two recones then :P he kind of holds voltage now with more than one ground...LOL. still does like a 157 when strapped at 1.4 for SnG and holds 14's fine.

lem's always surprises me. motherfuggin. wind. tunnel. its stupid clean.

    WHAT VIDEO OF SUNDOWN VAN?

    this is jamys van

but i was saying i went and grabbed jamy to get a video of teh vic which is here

and if you are good enough you will see a sneak peak at 1:09 of course with 2 beers in hand

  11. Not everyone needs a alt to put out at idle. Just a fyi.

I would have to say i agree with this statement as well as some the op said. All applications are different. At finals last year i seen something that blew my mind from an alternator standpoint. I had just had a talk with mike singer in regards to my car and alt and such. After talking with him a guy i know asked me to come get a demo of his car and he would prove what singer said to be true.

This guys vehicle didn't do shit at idle.. I don't even think it was charging.. but when he started to put a load on the vehicle and rev'ed to 2k his voltage CLIMBED !

I seen 12.2 then 12.9 then 13.4 then 14 then 14.8.. Shit was climbing the more he got on it.

Now would that work in my application.. hell no.. because after i get hammered i don't even know where the gas pedal is to rev the motor but all applications are different.. and now that i think about it i thats exactly what you were saying in the beginning so i have no clue why in the hell i went off on this rant.. shit i need more coffee.. disregard everything that i just said.
