So here's what I'm stuck deciding. I have a stock 94 accord, with a stock 80 (eighty) amp alternator, 18 years old. My planned build is a single Skar VVx15 15' Sub with an Audiopipe mini 1000 watt amp. The problem comes when deciding which sub to get based on that how much power I can do. My car is everything, I need it for work, I need it for school. I need my alternator to survive. The question is, if I get the Dual 4 ohm version of that sub, and I wire it down to 2 ohms, it'll do 600 watts RMS, and I know my alternator could take that. The problem is, I don't KNOW if I could get the Dual 2 ohm version of the sub, wire it down to 1 ohm at 1000 watts RMS, and set the gain really low so I would be pushing 750 watts MAX from the amp, as 750 watts is the borderline RMS I will do with my current alt, period. So 2 questions. Would setting the gain realllllyyy low, or even at its lowest, basically reduce the amount of wattage going to the amp? And second, what would you think the SPL difference between dong 600 watts RMS vs doing 750 watts RMS would be? Would it be noticabally louder? They are the same exact sub, same exact custom ported box tuned at 32hz, just different RMS. And take into account my alternator. Thanks
