You need to measure the port length from the external end to the internal end along the center line and measure the cross sectional area (width and height) with that information you can then get the tuning frequency.
Wait what...? The dimensions i gave are pretty much all you need because they are the same height as the box.
From the figure you can know the cross-sectional area dimensions but not the length of the port, if it turns you need to measure along the center line (half the width) from the external end to the internal.
"The port is just a 13" wall on either side, then there's a 4" extension that goes in like on any normal box."
It is just a normal port that goes back, then in. 13" back, then the little extensions on either side are 4". Just like in the picture.

dude. running it in 2 channel mode or in bridged mode will yield the exact same fucking amount of power.
the reason your friend make your sub smoke is because he was clipping the amp. aka having bass boost on, volume too high, or gain too high, or a combination. you should smack your friend. never let someone else play your system for you.
Yea im not letting him touch it again. I thought he was good at tuning but clearly he's not.

There is this nice tool on this website called torres box caculator in the subwoofer part of the fourm you should down load it and you can anwser your own question
Ok thanks.

bridged is usually best.
Last time i put it to 1050rms, my friend made one of the subs smoke. So im a little scared to do that haha. But i guess ill just watch my gains.

with a 17 in length it is tuned to 45. Still pretty high. What subs are you putting in it and how much power? These are important variables as well. What kind of vehicle is it going in?
Trunk of a 95 honda accord, big 3 upgrade, 2 rockford 12" punch p312d4's, and a soundstream 1050.
I already have the box and everything hooked up i was just curious of the tuning before i put this new box in. My lows dont hit hard, but my highs do. 45hz sure explains that. The new box i build is at 34.5hz so hopefully this hits the lows better.
Here's the new box and my trunks specs -

We need to know how long the port is. It looks like it turns so I put it with a depth of 15 and the tuning would be 46.xx.
Thats not the exact box, its just a pic of a box i found online with my specs on it so you guys can get a visual. It has a depth of 13" and then the extensions that go in are about 4".

Hey i need help figuring out what this box is tuned to.
Here are the dimensions. The port is just a 13" wall on either side, then there's a 4" extension that goes in like on any normal box. It's a really basic box so i figured you guys could figure it out for me.
Thanks!

So how should i wire this? Right now i have them in both channels. They are 4ohm dvc subs, so i cant wire them to 2ohm bridged. So im pretty much stuck with either 2ohm 2ch or 4ohm bridged. Which should i do?
-
520+520 = 1040.
1050-1040 = 10.
There is 10 watts of rated difference.
Impedence curve is the only other thing thats going to influence whether bridged or separate will be different, but it wont mean much.
So when its says 520rms, is it putting out 520rms per sub, or 520 to both and splitting the power? Thats all im confused on.

2ch 2ohm 520w is near identical to 4ohm bridged 1050.
how so? just curious.

and patch the leaks on your box, dont slack on the most important part.
Im actually making a new box today, i have another thread for that if any of you can help out with that too.

and welcome to the forum man, you'll learn alot (and it seems like you have alot to learn!)
thanks man, i've actually been looking on this forum for a couple months now. never got around to making an account. I do have a lot to learn, but i just love nice cars and loud subs!
i think you might want to re-read the amp specs. its 4 ohms stable bridged.
2 500w subs need a 1000w amp
so should i bridge it mono to 4ohm so its at 1050rms and just watch my gains, or use 2ch at 2ohm for 520rms? This is a daily driver, and i play the subs all the time so i dont want them to blow real easy. I have it at 2ohm right now and it hits pretty damn hard even with a terrible leaking and broken box.

I have 2 Rockford P3 12's and a Soundstream 1050 amp.
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/p_18706_Soundstream_XTA10502.aspx
For the amp it says -
- RMS Power @ 4 ohm: 2 x 260 Watts
- RMS Power @ 2 ohm: 2 x 520 Watts
- RMS Power @ 4 ohm Mono: 1 x 1050 Watts
And for the subs it says -
- Power Handling:
- Peak: 1000 watts
- RMS: 500 watts
- Peak: 1000 watts
I wired the subs to 4ohm and put it mono on the amp. And im guessing my friend turned the gain up too much while he was trying to tune them and they started smoking out of the port. I turned them off as soon as i saw a little bit of smoke. Wired them to 2ohm and 2ch on the amp, and now they play fine (they just smell a little when played at full volume), but i can play them pretty loud and they still hit hard even when played for 10+ minutes straight.
If you have 2 subs that are 500rms each. Would you use a 1000rms amp to power them properly, or 500rms? Im confused on how this works. And the box leaks air pretty bad, but they havn't fried since switching to 520rms about a week ago.
- RMS Power @ 4 ohm: 2 x 260 Watts
Can someone tell me what this box is tuned to?

It probably is prefab. Got it on craigslist and it came with that box.
Just put in this new box i made at 34.5hz and it BUMPS. Loving it.
