  1. i punched in on the TORREs calc that if I went to a 1/2 in opening it woul lower it to 36.25 HZ
  2. i pulled up the specs on the kicker zx 500.1 and it says it has a fixed ssf of 25 hz.
  3. Alls I have is a crossover on the deck and amp. The amp has a bass boost but on most of the forums they seem to advise not using them or you have to adjust your ain to avoid clipping. The amp is rated at 500 rms but the kicker reading in the box says it actually was guaged at 604. Weather here in Wa. is shitty right now and just got it all put in. If I were to widen the opening and lengthen it would that lower or raise the HZ?
  4. i can lengthen port, will this lower or raise tuning. I am pleased with sub, may have talked my cousin into trading his phoenix gold subs in on two level 2's or 3 12's. Just want optimum sound. Listen to rap and rock mostly, just low bass makes it smell.
  5. inside dimension 15in wide 18in tall 11 in deep.
  6. I wonder why Dc said this would be optimum. I comes out to 1.28 after displacement. On Dc site it calls for 1.25 for ported enclosure and they said this would work great. It sounds good as is. It is in my company truck and can't go much bigger. I refigured everything and 3/4 mdf vent comes out to.08 displacement and .14 for the sub which leaves 1.28. If I can get closer to 1.5 or slightly bigger not sure where to get new dimensions. i am just an ageing audiophile that likes bumpin.
  7. If i give u new dimensions can u help me out? Wondering why dc said this was good?
  8. when I gave my dimensions to dc for a port length they never said. they are inside dimensions of 15 in wide by 16 1/2 H by 10.5 long for a total of 1.503 port dimensions they replied with are 16.5 tall one inch wide and 12 in long. i found an online calculator that said it should be around 35 hz but i don't trust it.
  9. I have a level 2 twelve running off of a Kicker zx 500.1. Noone in my area can tune the amp except by sound. I turned bass boost down all the way and control the amplitide by by subwoofer level on my headunit. Depending on the frequency of the bass on a specific track it pounds but on some low bass notes the speakers still put off a smell. The vented enclosure is behind my drivers seat in an extended cab F-250. Could it just be after listening to a song loud they are just getting warm or can the amplifier still be clipping due to different bass notes? I have turned the gain down to between 1/2 and 3/4, if i turn it down much more the speaker hardly moves, any suggestions thanks fellas.
  10. I turned my ain down some more and am now usin my subwoofer gain on my deck to adjust the level for rock or rap tunes and now all I smell is the wood from the box, the dust cap gets warm after playing but not hot by any means.
  11. thanks i will call around today. Will they make some smell when brand new. I just ran them hard for like 2 minutes. When i felt the dust cap it was warm but not hot. I know they used to/still use ferro fluid, and was told they smelled for awhile after purchase.
  12. I hooked it up and turned the gain 3/4 of the way up. It does not sound like it is distorting, just don't want to injure the new sub. Would any reputable stereo shop be able to set it properly, owners manual says turn up head unit 3/4 of the way and then turn gain up until it distorts then turn down a little.
  13. I just installe a Dc level 2 12 in a vented box per there specs. It is ran by a new Kicker ZX 500.1. My question is it smells. I remember other speakers I owned smelling at first but could not rmemeber, is this O.k.. Also what is the easiest way to make sure it is not clipping?
