  1. I think I'll probably set mine at the same temp, I mean they will be on almost all the time but that doesn't matter as long as they do thier job! It will be an improvement having anything move air back there :)

Soooo tried my hand at some plexi work today, here's how that went

First cut taced and cut a piece with the circular saw

    Wedged in there perfect!

cut a sample piece and sprayed some of this night shades to see how dark I wanted it.

Used some hot glue and some CA glue to hold it in place, sits in there pretty sturdy and flush

    Taped it off and sprayed

It came out pretty good, maybe a little on the dark side hehe. It's nighttime so it was kind of hard to get a good pic with the lighting I tried a few different ways. You cant see anything behind the glass unless you turn the truck on so it looks just gloss black with everything off wich I like. Also this night shades stuff tends to lighten over time so I'm going to roll with it like this for a while and decide if I like it. So far it's pretty sweet!

BTW you can only see the glue when you shine a bright light at it, its just reflecting the flash, normally you cannot see any glue :)

I like it so far, if I redo it I may mask off the white lettering in the center so that it comes out a little brighter when I spray the darkshades. My phone died so I didnt get to take all the pics I wanted so I'll post a few more either later tonight or tomorrow.

  2. I was wondering about how the power supply would effect the lighting, thanks for the info steve! That would have sucked to find out the hard way! I think ill just go grab some good old fashioned computer fans and get them in there, then probably just wire up some led's on a separate set up.

Btw, what's a good temp to set the fans to? I live in Arizona and its friggin hott here so sometimes when i get in my truck it reads 110 before the amp starts playing. Just wondering how you set yours

  3. i think it looks cool like that! You are right, a piece of smoked plexi would look good over that hole. How's the 3 speed fan output working for you? I got mine in the Lex working great and i am so glad it's in there. I just let it do its thing and forget about it. :D

Thanks man! I really like the way the lexus came out! I haven't got any fans in yet, but I did run the wiring for them. Can't decide if I want to go with some lighted red ones or non lighted? Red would look cool and I was wanting to do lights back there anyway so that would be a 2 birds kinda thing for me! Btw I freaked when I saw you posted this on fb! Thanks bro!

  4. /\ /\ /\ /\ Thanks guys! I do take pride in my work, as for the wiring hehe...don't look into my center console too much. Although it's somewhat messy it was really hard for it not to be. Works for me though, I knowexactly what all those little wires do and where they go.

This was a fairly simple way to install these gauges, I just wish GM had made the opening a little wider but oh well, I don't want to cut it because I think with the way the opening has a roundover around it, it would look tacky to just take a dremel and cutoff wheel and openen it up a little more. I was thinking about doing some bodywork and gluing them to the faceplate like steve did on his car and kevosinn's van. For now they are good, I may put in a piece of plexi and smoke it because these things are bright! They look sweet at night, but I catch myself watching thd dancing lights a little more than I should lol!

  5. If you want to see the rest of my truck build you can finid it HERE http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/169404-goodvibez-03-sierra-video-pg11-custom-dash-finished-and-subs-playin/page-1

Got these bad boys in last tuesday and finially got around to getting them in

First took a piece of alluminium and cut to fit in the original spot for my a/c controls, I'm moving those down to the center console(still not finished)

Then screwed a piece of 1/2" mdf made a riser for them, Later decided to add another 1/4" pice on the back to raise it up even more and wrapped that in secondskin sound dampner becuase it's black and had a smooth texture

Test fiting, thats as center as I could get them. slightly off but I couldn't move any further to the right so this will have to do for now.

Quick disconnects....well with that many it's not reeally quick so...here's my disconnects lol!

    2013-09-14_15-15-19_423_zps9bcfa12e.jpg

Wiring for the temp probe, fan power, all the power for the guages and one wire to the sub output.

    2013-09-14_15-55-36_627_zpsc58181ba.jpg

Added a fuse block to the rear and this will power the guages and my rear seats when I install them, those things are so handy! Before I had the battery guage powered off the front main batt and I didn't feel like I was getting accurate readings so I changed it to this set up so I can actually tell how the bass drops effect my voltage. Definatly a difference going right to the source.
