well a easy way to find out is look at your front fender, if there is a decal in your fender at say's DOHC 24 valve then you have a duratec, if not then you have Vulcan....

another way is to look under your hood, if you alt is on top on the engine then its a Vulcan, if you can't see your alt then its a duratec engine cause the alt is located at the bottom of the engine

The Vulcan is very easy to work on electrical wise.
