AceDiPace Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 About a month ago I installed an Alpine CDA-105 head unit into my 98 chevy lumina I ran 4 gauge power wire down the left side and my rcas and the remote wire down the right side. I made sure to sand underneath the bolt I grounded on in the trunk. I have two JL W3v2s powered by a planet audio AP2000d amplifier at 625watts running at 4 ohms. For about a month straight I have been listening to my subs on about +7 out of 15 on the HU and volume around 22(clips around 30). About a week ago the subs started doing what I'm told is Turn on/off pop (hitting loud once when I turn the HU on/off). Which I'm told is odd because usually if it is going to do that it does from the start. I went to start my car 2 days ago and the battery was dead I immediately thought it was the amp but I checked and it appears to be off when the HU is. When I don't power anything up it turns over and starts immediately. I listened to it yesterday for two songs on my way to work shut off the system before I stopped and even revved the engine a bit when I did to charge the battery a bit. 4 hours later I go to start the car and it almost did not start. I realize I just wrote a book of a thread and I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read through it and can possibly offer me any knowledge or advice. Thank You
lifted_silverado Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 Sounds like its time to buy a new battery. How old was the battery when you installed said system in the vehicle? Old batterys have a hard enough time running the stock application after a long period of time, the added strain of power may habe broke its back. Also i wouldnt run 4 gauge power wire to any bass amp. My .02 cents Everythings in the attic or garage since the truck was sold last year. New build should be coming soon in a dodge cummins

Also i wouldnt run 4 gauge power wire to any bass amp. My .02 cents it's definitely a possibility I should check that out. I don't think it could be much more than like 2 years old because my dad claims he replaced it when we got the car but his memory tends to get fuzzy about things like that. The reason I chose 4 gauge is because most of my friends with systems had told me it was a good idea because it was less electrical resistance and less likely to place strain on the electrical system causing issues like blinking headlights. Whats your reasoning for going with a smaller gauge?
lifted_silverado Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 That is incorrect. Larger wire = less resistance. I recommend testing the battery to see where it rests at for voltage, if low replace it. Also doing the big 3 is always a plus to keep the battery flowing nicely with the alt. As for the popping on. Check all your wires to the HU and your ground. Everythings in the attic or garage since the truck was sold last year. New build should be coming soon in a dodge cummins
AceDiPace Posted April 10, 2011 Author Report Posted April 10, 2011 Ahh I gotcha I thought you meant I should've gone smaller. That's a good idea I don't own a volt meter myself but I think autozone probably tests those for free so I should probably run over there later on. As for the popping yeah I;m probably going to run through all my wires and may tighten and re-sand underneath the ground bolt and see if anything changes. I appreciate the advice.
